I Had a Great Time

I had so much fun going to Prague for the summer. The city was beautiful and had a lot of things to do. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, suggesting places to go and explaining some cultural differences. The apartments were fairly nice, but it was a huge adjustment to have no clothes dryer or air conditioning. The location of the apartment was very good, with lots of nearby places to eat and shop as well as not too far from where classes are held. One thing I really enjoyed was how easy it is to travel around Europe. It was easy to plan a weekend trip to another country. Plus, the program organized some trips to different cities in Czechia which were a lot of fun.

Pros
  • Be immersed in a different culture
  • Try new things and explore
  • Further you academics
Cons
  • Big adjustment

Studying in Prague was the best 8 weeks of my life!!

I would definitely recommend studying in Prague to anyone. I chose Prague because it's not as common of a destination for Americans to travel to. I wanted to branch out and go to a new city in a different part of Europe and it was so amazing! I was able to travel to countries that I wouldn't normally think of going to, like Austria, and I'm so glad I did this. Prague is also a beautiful city and has so much to do. Some of my favorite activities were going on paddle boats on the river, watching the sunset at a park/beer garden, trying out new cafes/restaurants, and exploring the history of the city! I also met so many amazing people from all over the world, and it was genuinely the best 8 weeks of my life!

Pros
  • Easy travel on the weekends to nearby cities
  • So many activities to do in the city
  • Lots of history to learn about
Cons
  • Felt unsafe at times at night

Don't miss out!

I'm so glad I chose to study in Prague – it truly became a second home. Despite its reputation for cloudy weather, Prague's natural beauty always shined through. The city's less touristy vibe allowed me to experience life like a local.

As for the housing, I opted for a single bedroom and did not regret it; however, if you are sharing a room there is plenty of space. The flat I shared, situated in Prague 7, was filled with charming details like grand wooden doors, lofty ceilings, and the large windows that let in plenty of natural light. Having the tram station just outside the apartment was incredibly convenient, and the neighborhood felt exceptionally safe. Various shops and cafes (like my local favorite, Letka) were all within a 10 minute walk. The nearby parks quickly became my favorite places to visit with Letna's beer garden providing great views of Prague and Stromovka's peaceful ponds and large fields. A quick 10-minute tram ride, led to even more restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, and charming streets to explore. There is always something to do!

The onsite staff was welcoming and offered an array of engaging activities like an overnight excursion to Český Krumlov, day trips, and smaller activities like attending the opera–we saw a modern performance where actors dressed as monkeys sang in Czech while performing acrobatics on trampolines, so don't underestimate the experience–indoor cycling, ice skating, jogging around the local park, and more! The staff's efforts truly enriched the overall experience.

All of the classes I took were very interesting, had amazing professors, and a manageable work load. I recommend taking the Prague Art and Architecture class with Dr. Josef Záruba-Pfeffermann if you want to learn about the rich history of Prague by walking the city's streets and visiting various museums and monuments for free. Dr. Záruba's engaging teaching style involves telling historically significant stories that you wouldn't find in conventional textbooks, which always made the class interesting. Also, consider taking the elementary Czech language class with professor Šaršonová. She is helpful resource, a kind and encouraging person, and an amazing teacher. Learning the language from professor Šaršonová elevated my experience in Prague, enhancing my interactions and connections with the local culture. Finally, if you're looking to learn more about Central and Eastern Europe, take a class with Dr. Monika MacDonagh-Pajerová. Her firsthand experience as a student activist during the 1989 Velvet Revolution brings a unique perspective to her teaching.

Once you visit Prague you will never want to leave! Being here was the most fun, important, and overall memorable period of my life.

Pros
  • Beautiful city architecture
  • Great professors
  • Lots of things to do
Cons
  • Mostly grey skies and gloomy weather
  • Didn't have as many psychology classes as I expected.

Living, laughing, and loving Prague

Traveling to Prague with CEA was my first time traveling alone. I was very anxious at the prospect of being in an unknown city without any close friends to be there with me, but you learn the city fast and make friends faster. No matter where you go or what you do, you can feel a sense of home within the city and there are so many new things to try. Everything from learning about the alchemical history of the area to river cruises, there are so many neighborhoods to explore.

A lot of students come here with a wide array of plans and goals, which means there's something for everyone in this program. The only thing I wish I had done when considering which program to do was look into more specific programs.

Pros
  • Beautiful city
  • Easy to get around (tram card)
  • The city isn't too expensive to live in
Cons
  • The weather isn't always sunny and warm

Go! Go! Go!

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA was the best experience of my life. I was definitely very nervous going into it, but once I got settled in I never wanted to leave. As soon as I got off of my flight, CEA CAPA workers were there with signs to point us in the right direction and give us rides to our apartments from the airport. The housing was incredible, much better than expected. I lived with 3 other students and I always felt safe, the neighborhood was very cute. CEA CAPA offered us many chances to go on excursions, some just day trips, others for a night or two. The staff was always available for help or guidance as needed. Overall, an unreal experience I think everyone should take advantage of. I met friends and made connections I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Pros
  • Safe housing
  • Lots of restaurants and things to do nearby

Fall 2022 Semester in Prague

My experience was one for the books. I am a Native American, small-town girl who had her first experience overseas at the age of 20. I had the opportunity of being placed with three other girls in a safe, close to the city, neighborhood, which was also close to our studies. I got the chance to study at a private university, where I focused on continuing my educational journey in law. At CEA, we also had the chance to learn about the country's history and got to visit many local towns. Overall, the community was helpful, encouraging, and left us with many positive experiences. Witnessing the differences in other cultures made me appreciate my own in a different way, and that is why I wish to help others experience their own personal journey of studying abroad.

Pros
  • Safe Area
  • Supportive Community
  • Great Location for Other Travel
Cons
  • Limited Networking due to Cultural Norms
  • Limited Access to Shipping
  • Language Barrier (minimal)

Best decision of my life

I was incredibly nervous to study abroad, but I'm so glad I did. CEA made sure we adjusted well to the environment of Prague. They gave us enough time to settle in prior to classes beginning, which I am very grateful for. While abroad, CEA did whatever they could to make sure we were comfortable. If we ever were worried about anything or had any questions, they were quick to help. Anything from academics to the city to just being abroad in general--CEA ensured we all felt secure. The faculty is al so nice!
