COMMUNITY REVIEWS SUMMARY

This program offers a hands-on equine learning experience with supportive instructors and opportunities to ride various horses, including jumping for some. While the campus is beautiful and the staff friendly, it is quite rural and a taxi ride from Edinburgh, which can be costly. Communication and internet access were common challenges, and accommodations and food were basic, but many appreciated the balance of classes, riding, and weekend excursions around Scotland.

Loved this trip!

This trip was super interesting and fun! It allowed me to do activities and attend classes not available at my home school. The teachers where very supportive and encouraging and the other student not he trip where great. I don't ride horses at home so this trip was a great way to learn the basics while getting to explore another county. I am now thinking about couniting riding in the future. I plan to work with horses in the future so the courses where helpful and greatly extended by knowledge of equine studies.

I had a nice first study abroad experience.

This was my first study abroad experience and first time out of the country so I was not quite sure what to expect. The staff were very nice and supportive throughout the experience, but more communication between instructors and meeting times/places would have been helpful. It also would have been helpful to know that we would be in a more rural setting and would need to set aside funds to get around by taxi, uber, busses, and trains as we have no other means of transportation. We were told we would be 20 minutes from Edinburgh but its more like 40 minutes.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Put aside some money for transportation costs - taxis, ubers, busses, trains, etc.

Good Experience!

I deeply enjoyed my time here in Scotland and had a blast with the horses and the girls in the trip. While I at first didn't realize how remote the campus was from main areas, we managed to make the best of it and still see a large amount of the surrounding areas. The staff were extremely patient, especially the barn staff who clearly cared deeply about both horse and rider well being. The academics were fun without being too much in a very short amount of time, and felt well structured and taught. The only issues were when a number of us got sick towards the end of the trip and had some difficultly getting medical care, but had a great staff who tried their absolute best! Overall, I enjoyed my experience but wish I had been more prepared coming in.

Academic and Fun

I had the best time in Scotland. The horses were lovely and obviously cared for. It was a great group of girls who all had different levels of experience and the staff did a great job to cater to all of us. Getting out and exploring is definitely a must. I went to Edinburgh many times but also it is so easy to jump on a bus to the train and go wherever you want. But staying on campus was just as nice. There are a lot of great places to walk/hike around, and experience nature. Every staff person was lovely. 100% recommend!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay after the program and explore more of the beauty of Scotland!

Highly Recommend

As someone who was nervous about studying abroad, after spending the month here I cannot recommend this program enough. The staff and faculty are so friendly and accommodating and truly made the most of this experience. The courses are very manageable and the riding was so fun. Additionally, the campus is beautiful, my friends and I would go on walks everyday to see the campus and animals as well as watch the weekly events at SNEC. It is also really easy to travel by train or plane to other countries on the weekends.
