The trip of your life

This experience was so unique because it allowed you to learn the way of Scottish locals. You become part of the culture as your trip goes onwards. Between learning ground breaking and applicable equine husbandry and immersing yourself in an entirely new world, you really are living through the trip of your life. This was a wonderful experience that not only grew me as an adult but taught me basic and vital life skills. I learned a lot about new cultures as well as horses. This experience was invaluable to my future goals as a person.

Pros
  • Cultural immersion
  • adventures outdoors
  • to grow as a person
Cons
  • Public transport difficult to manage
  • Expensive to travel
  • Housing had no air conditioning

Scotland Equine 2022

Take every chance you get to explore and travel the country! The staff is SRUC are incredibly kind and are willing to help with whatever you need. They are a great support system and are truly the best.
From the SRUC campus in Oatridge, Edinburgh is at least 40 minutes away no matter what form of transportation you take. Cabs in Scotland are not the most reliable to pick you up on time or even at all. Buses and trains are more reliable but can still be flakey on arrival time and stopping locations.

Pros
  • Staff are wonderful at SRUC
  • Plenty of time to study/explore
  • Great way to meet new people
Cons
  • Distance from city
  • Public transportation
  • No A/C or heat

A great experience I recommend to everyone!

Having the day broken up with class in one part of the day and riding in anther part was super fun and kept everything very interesting. The teachers are absolutely lovely and very caring for all of us when we are here. Classes were very insightful and taught me a lot in a very short period of time. I would say that Adelante does not give amazing clarification on how far everything is from where the campus is. Overall, this experience was amazing and I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested.

Pros
  • Amazing staff
  • Very fun riding in a different country and learning how they ride differently
  • You will make amazing friends during this program
Cons
  • Distance of Edinburgh from the campus is pretty far.
  • Train, bus and cab prices can easily add up
  • very early dinner time so you sometimes get hungry later at night

Adelante Abroad Equine Studies Program in Edinburgh, Scotland

Being able to learn about fitness and anatomy/physiology in an equine setting was so interesting and fun! We also got to ride horses throughout the week, which really helped me get my horse fix, haha! The staff and teachers were always so kind and helpful, and were always willing to lend a hand whenever we needed assistance! My favorite portion of this program was being able to develop a fitness program for a horse. I've never done something like that before, so it was super interesting to learn about it!

Pros
  • Super hands-on and inclusive!
  • Incorporated real-life examples into teaching.
  • Practical sessions and in-class sessions allowed for diversity in learning.
Cons
  • Some lack of communication before trip in terms of specifics with what we need to bring.

Adelante Abroad Equine Summer Program

The staff and instructors were incredible. So kind and helpful, we all loved them! They made us feel right at home and made learning fun. The campus is beautiful and overall I had a positive experience.
In hindsight I feel like some things were not advertised appropriately. Edinburgh is 45 minutes from campus and not 20 minutes as stated. It also takes closer to an hourb or an hour and a half to get there if you don't take a taxi straught there because you have to use multiple forms of transportation to get to the city (i.e. take 2 separate buses to get you there, or walk 30 minutes to the bus station, or bus then walk 25 min to the train station). Getting to the city was not as easy or as cheap as advertised, and public transportation was often unreliable. This is not the college's fault of course, I just think it was falsely advertised by the program.
I also would have preferred to be advised ahead of time that there is no air conditioning in any of the buildings. We were also out of hot water in our flat for about a week, despite maintenance coming to fix it multiple times. It was moreso just inconvenient., but the professors did want to ensure it was fixed right away.

Pros
  • kind people
  • beautiful scenery
  • lots to see and do
Cons
  • no air conditioning
  • inconvenient public transportation

Scotland 2022

I loved it wish somethings were better communicated but still enjoyed it! The riding was more advanced than expecting along with academics more than I thought. The city was amazing but it was a 40 mins taxi to the city which was not really what was advertised but we did make the best of it of course. The staff was so accommodating when anything happened however and definitely the people you’d wanna travel alone for the first time with. Over all super good experience and a great way to network with different people normally wouldn’t be able to!!

Pros
  • Staff was amazing
  • Beautiful scenery
Cons
  • Very far from the city
  • No luggage

Equine Summer in Scotland

From the classroom, to the stable, to nights out at the pubs, this program is the ultimate description of work hard play hard; a perfect blend of classwork with weekday and weekend excursions. Oatridge College is a small, tight knit community where you’ll definitely feel at home. The small class size allows for one on one time with instructors and class discussion. The courseload is easily manageable outside of class. The location of campus is perfect, in a quiet area, but a short train ridge from Edinburgh and other small towns to explore. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for the perfect study abroad experience while building your resume — between classroom lectures and practical session, be ready to get hands on and comfortable around the most beautiful horses!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have spent more time on classwork and studying, keeping up with material in lectures. This would have allowed easier preparation for the exam in the end!

Enjoyed every second here!!

Love all the staff members, everyone is very willing to help and passionate about what they do. Sometimes the classes hours are too long, but I like we have rest time in between. All the horses are lovely and had a lot of fun riding.
We were very lucky to make it to the gold cup of the Perth Racetrack, we say the winner race of the 2019. We also went to Luccinda Russel's thoroughbred horses training facility in Kinross, and understand and had a deeper look into their daily routine and how the horses are train and been take care of. We had free days to explore Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Some went to London. The amount of opportunities that you have in this program is amazing. We've met a bunch of local people they are just amazing, people take care of each other.
I am also amazed how much our group have bonded over a month. I enjoyed every moment here !!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Haggis is a traditional Scottish food, it sounds wired, but it is a must try on the list. IT IS BETTER THAN YOU THINK.
