Teach in Europe - Recommended TEFL Course for Americans

About a year ago, I decided to take a TEFL course so that I could live and travel throughout Europe. After a lot of research and several phone interviews, I decided on The Language House TEFL. Moving to a foreign city to do something you have no experience in can be daunting, but TLH made the experience both manageable and enjoyable. The comprehensive lectures they offer cover a variety of topics, from teaching methodology to tips on how to live in Prague like a local. I especially enjoyed the staff's sense of humor, which made even the most mundane topics interesting. Furthermore, TLH offers more actual teaching hours than any other program. I wholeheartedly believe this is what enabled me to become a successful teacher. As someone who has never done any kind of teaching before, it was very important to get hands-on practice with actual students.
I've been working as an English teacher for almost a year now, and I owe it to TLH. Their instruction sufficiently prepared me for English teaching at all levels (I've taught students anywhere from 2 to 60 years old), and I've had no trouble finding employment. Even more important is the extensive community TLH fosters, including lots of social events and support groups. If you plan on teaching English in Prague, definitely choose TLH!

My experience with the TEFL program at the Language House was very positive. I learned a lot from this challenging course. As someone who has taught at the University level for years, I honestly signed up for the course wanting little more than the certification it would bring me. I quickly found out that there I had a lot to learn about the methodology of teaching English as a second language. The Language House provided a rigorous and extremely useful training that prepared me for the entirely different world of teaching English. The highlights were definitely the extensive amount of time spent teaching real Czech students, as well as the lectures on phonetics and teaching pronunciation, which were very professional and informative. The course was very well organized and ran incredibly smoothly. These people really know what they're doing given their 10+ years experience in this field. In addition to learning a lot, the TEFL program also had a great social aspect. I met some awesome new people, many of whom have gone on to become close friends. The school organized several dinners, pub nights and parties that were great fun and really solidified our class as a group. The support network in terms of finding a job, an apartment, dealing with visa issues etc is also very helpful. Finally the TEFL program was also very helpful and useful for me when I was interviewing for jobs at language schools. When I used some of the concepts and terminology from TEFL in my interviews, I could almost see the interviewers eyes light up, knowing that they were talking to someone who was well trained and prepared to teach. I interviewed at four schools and was offered jobs at all of them as a result.

I have always loved traveling and I have always wanted to live in Europe. I am a certified teacher with 30 years in the classroom who decided to change her path and become a freelance English teacher. Tefl certification in Prague was the perfect answer for me. After looking into a lot of programs, I settled on The Language House. The program is very entertaining and engaging with lively lessons that I found very valuable. Don't let the fun fool you as an experienced teacher I recognized the sound methodology behind the instruction at The Langauge House. What I found the most valuable was all the teaching practice throughout the course and the daily feedback from instructors and students. An unexpected treat, is all the friends I made during the course and all the support and friendships that continue now that the course is completed. 8 months after having taken the course and having spoken to teachers who took other courses, I can highly recommend The Language House. Not only have I learnt how to be the best teacher I can be but I've also been introduced and included in the community of the past and present Language House TEFLers. This means making loads of friends easily and being able to make the absolute most out of this incredible and very fun city. It's not only a certificate, long after the course ends you still get the benefits with organised social events and support if you need it!

Choosing the Language House meant a way into Prague. They help with pretty much anything you could need help with, teaching and non teaching related. Arriving was so simple with the airport transfer and student accommodation being organised by the school and it meant that I could enjoy the Prague experience from day 1! The course was intense but so much fun with the teachers ensuring all the topics covered are delivered in a way that you want to be learning them. The intensity of it just means that you're getting the absolute most out of the month long course and can be super confident when landing your first job.

My experience with TLH Prague was a very positive one. The staff are very kind and attentive, as well as knowledgable about TEFL materials. The material itself is not that difficult, but the condensed nature of the course along with their requirements of teaching real classes, as well as seeking out private students in order to receive your certificate makes for a stressful experience. That being said, it's no worse than studying for finals so if you use proper time management you'll be fine. I highly recommend TLH if you're looking to jump into a new and fun line of work in a new country.

The Language House in Prague offers an outstanding training program. You take 2 to 3 classes everyday and start teaching full 45 minute classes from the second week on. At the end of the program my group had to speak with the creditor for the Language House and it was clear that we all felt we had gained a significant amount of confidence in our ability to teach from our time here. It can be difficult to find an apartment, search for a job, and start working on your visa while you're still in class, but anyone who is proactive can accomplish these things without too much of a problem. And of course there is plenty of help from the staff in dealing with all of these things. A few people in my course even found jobs before they had graduated from the program. It's an all around great course and I would recommend it to anyone looking to teach abroad.

I chose to get my certification at The Language House TEFL in Prague, Czech Republic. I highly recommend this pro! gram. While there are many programs available this course includes additional services that others do not. These services include; CV assistance, job assistance, housing, and Visa assistance. They prepared me to teach English but they also prepared me to live in Prague. Skills that I consider highly valuable.

My decision to move abroad was both a professional and personal decision, as I'm sure it is for others. I had many questions and concerns. I felt that the Language House was both fully informative and supportive of all that I was going through. They still are. The Language House is also more than a school but a community. Something that I think any Expat would appreciate.

I took The Language House TEFL course in February 2012. TLH is in a great location in the center of Prague. I used the accommodation given by TLH during the course. It was even better than I expected- I had a big flat to myself with all the necessities and weekly cleaning. There were only 6 people on my course so we received a lot of attention from the trainers. We had 7 different observers/teachers/trainers. The course itself included information about lesson planning, teaching methodology, phonetics, and classroom management. The staff presented this information in the most interesting/fun way possible. We then put these new techniques into practice during our teaching training. You teach 12 45-minute lesson and 2 1-hour private lessons to real Czech students. This teaching practice has made me feel confident in teaching English at any level. Job assistance during AND after the course was great. I received help with my CV, cover letter, and interview tips. The best part about TLH is its strong alumni community. Graduates are connected all over the world and it is a great place to get advice about TEFL or just life abroad. I would recommend The Language House Prague to anyone interested in having fun while getting their TEFL certificate.
