The best decision of your life

I'm so glad I chose to go to The Language House to get my TEFL certificate. With 12 hours of teaching practice under my belt I was able to teach my first solo lesson with confidence. THL also helped me to find a job, make friends, get my visa and start looking for an apartment. I couldn't have asked for more.

What would you improve about this program?
The Young Learners Certificate program would have been even better if it had been possible to get some practice teaching children.

Living the dream in Prague

I am currently living and teaching in Prague, thanks to The Language House. I chose The Language House because I knew it was an intensive course that offered more hands on teaching experience than any of the others I found. I had a response to my application immediately and within 24 hours was speaking with a staff member from the course. They were organized, accommodating and supportive every step of the way. Whether it was looking for housing, visa information or seeking employment they have been there 100%. If you are looking for a life change or simply want a one of a kind learning experience I would strongly recommend them.

Fantastic TEFL course!

I graduated from The Language House’s TEFL course in March 2015 and I've not regretted a single thing. Prior to this I did tons of research on where I should go, and the school's promptness and interest in answering my questions cinched the deal for me. I’ve appreciated my time there more and more now out in the real world and working as an English teacher, which, by the way, is one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had! Chris and his team do a tremendous job at course plans, preparing us with real-world expectations as well as keeping us connected with the alumni network. It really feels like being a part of a family, and I highly recommend applying to The Language House if you're considering a teaching career in Prague.

From the Curiosity of Travel to a Full TEFL Experience

If you're curious about going abroad and trying a TEFL career, temporary or permanent, TLH is a great place to start. While the course itself is intensive, the focus that the course requires fully prepares a person to start their TEFL career from the get go. I've known classmates that were shy to speak in front of people at the beginning to teaching and planning lessons being an afterthought within the span of the month-long course. The staff is as helpful as they are direct in terms of what one should know to prepare to become a teacher, in terms of the knowledge essentials such as grammar, as well as adapting to life in Prague. Personally, I've recently reached the one-year anniversary mark of my year living in Prague, and I'm still absolutely grateful for the experience TLH provided.

Sept 2014 Course

I move to Prague about a year ago to take a course with The Language House. It was a great decision and I have loved living in Prague. TLH offers what is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive course in the city. The teachers and observers are knowledgeable and engaging, and most of them have living in Prague for quite some time. The 14 hours of practice teaching were very challenging for me, but prepared me for the teaching world of Prague, and really improved my public speaking skills and my understanding and implementation the course material. Students are tested on grammar, teaching methodology, and classroom presence. I also took the Young Learners and Teens extension, so I am certified to work with students of all ages. Prague is a great place to teach because new work is always available. I found a full time job at a private school not even two weeks after the course ended thanks to TLH's reputation and network of teachers all over the city. If you are considering moving to Prague and teach, this is an excellent and thorough program that you should look into.

Highly Recommend!

About a year ago, I decided to take a TEFL course so that I could live and travel throughout Europe. After a lot of research and several phone interviews, I decided on The Language House TEFL. Moving to a foreign city to do something you have no experience in can be daunting, but TLH made the experience both manageable and enjoyable. The comprehensive lectures they offer cover a variety of topics, from teaching methodology to tips on how to live in Prague like a local. I especially enjoyed the staff's sense of humor, which made even the most mundane topics interesting. Furthermore, TLH offers more actual teaching hours than any other program. I wholeheartedly believe this is what enabled me to become a successful teacher. As someone who has never done any kind of teaching before, it was very important to get hands-on practice with actual students.
I've been working as an English teacher for almost a year now, and I owe it to TLH. Their instruction sufficiently prepared me for English teaching at all levels (I've taught students anywhere from 2 to 60 years old), and I've had no trouble finding employment. Even more important is the extensive community TLH fosters, including lots of social events and support groups. If you plan on teaching English in Prague, definitely choose TLH!

Great TEFL program

My experience with the TEFL program at the Language House was very positive. I learned a lot from this challenging course. As someone who has taught at the University level for years, I honestly signed up for the course wanting little more than the certification it would bring me. I quickly found out that there I had a lot to learn about the methodology of teaching English as a second language. The Language House provided a rigorous and extremely useful training that prepared me for the entirely different world of teaching English. The highlights were definitely the extensive amount of time spent teaching real Czech students, as well as the lectures on phonetics and teaching pronunciation, which were very professional and informative. The course was very well organized and ran incredibly smoothly. These people really know what they're doing given their 10+ years experience in this field. In addition to learning a lot, the TEFL program also had a great social aspect. I met some awesome new people, many of whom have gone on to become close friends. The school organized several dinners, pub nights and parties that were great fun and really solidified our class as a group. The support network in terms of finding a job, an apartment, dealing with visa issues etc is also very helpful. Finally the TEFL program was also very helpful and useful for me when I was interviewing for jobs at language schools. When I used some of the concepts and terminology from TEFL in my interviews, I could almost see the interviewers eyes light up, knowing that they were talking to someone who was well trained and prepared to teach. I interviewed at four schools and was offered jobs at all of them as a result.

What would you improve about this program?
More lessons on teaching grammar, covering a variety of different grammar points.

Questions & Answers

Hello! Yes, it is possible :) While it maybe slightly more difficult to find a job, there are definitely opportunities for you! The Language House is great about connecting their students with jobs around Prague.

I have been able to live comfortably and travel with my income.

Unfortunately, TEFL certification is not particularly useful in the States. Most schools and companies here don't seem to understand what it is. ESL companies here tend to look for DELTA certification or a teaching license with ESL credential for their teaching staff. However, skills that you acquire during this program (and teaching abroad) are very helpful in persuing teaching at home.

found it very easy to get a job in Prague after the TEFL at the Language House. I had three interviews the first week after the course and I got all three jobs. Most of my friends had a similar experience. Prague has so many language schools and they are usually hiring. This was in mid April. An even better time to look for jobs is in late August/early September, or in January when the terms start...
