South Korea

I would recommend travel and teach to anybody thinking of doing a year in South

korea, the process seems huge but actually required very little worry and stress

from me as they took care of everything pretty well. I think for me there were no

problems and my school have been really welcoming. Sometimes Korean bosses

are a little more extreme than in the west but you get used to it haha, and my

coworkers are lovely. My apartment is in quite a nice neighborhood with lots of

convinient stores and easy access to the subway. I'm looking forward to staying

here at least one year.

Good things about Korea-
- 24 hour convinience for everything!
- Nice friendly people
- Good quality of life
- Big expat community
- Korea is very safe esp for women

Bad things-
- Sometimes very cold haha
- Language barrier is sometimes an issue for things like banking

My Seoul Experience- so Far

I'm really happy that I made the decision to go with you guys, I googled a lot of recruiters and travel and teach seemed the best choice, and they have delivered in helping me get set up with my school and made sure things are ok for me out here! Honestly I havnt had any major problems so I havnt even really needed to contact them at all since I have been set up here, but that can only be a good thing! At first working in a korean workplace took some getting used to but now I feel I am in the groove and I'm really enjoying teaching here, 99% of the kids are awesome and ive even met a lot of parents who are so nice.

What would you improve about this program?
before I arrived I found it a bit difficult to get some detailed information on my neighborhood where I would live in Seoul, perhaps the school/recruiter could provide that or point people towards a website etc.

Seoul Love!

Teaching in Korea is great so far! I really like my school and there's a big community of foreign teachers who are all very helpful. I have only been here just over 1 month but no problems so far and I look forward to doing at least one more year. I was a bit overwhelmed with the Visa process and had a few problems but my recruiter helped sort everything out and talk me through it.

Korea is very friendly for foreigners and even the language barrier isn't a problem (so far!). Saying that I am taking Korean class to make my life a little easier :p

Thanks for everything so far!

So far so good!

I think moving to a new place on the other side of the world is a crazy experience for anybody and I know when I first arrived here I was a little worried my first few days. Actually I have only been here just over a month now but I am loving life so far. My school is very enjoyable and there is a great social scene here in Incheon. I had some small problems and confusions when I was applying for my visa but actually travel and teach really helped me out and walked me through everything so it ended up being problem free. So, thanks!

Great Laughs, Great Time!

I have been here a while now and really settled in, Korea is a very safe and enjoyable place with friendlyu locals. My school have been very welcoming and even though I don't have a lot of previous teaching experience they provided easy to use materials and I got lots of advice from Niko and the group back home. There is a big community here of locals and ex-pats alike. Just don't go crazy with the soju haha.

What would you improve about this program?
It might not be possible depending on the school but it would have been cool to have some samples of the teaching materials before arriving, I like to do my homework haha. Apart from that no problems!

We had a great experience with Travel and Teach!

My husband and I had a great experience with Travel and Teach Recruiting and we would definitely recommend them! We contacted Shane via email to ask general questions and he helped guide us through the whole process of coming to teach in Korea! He was very responsive, prompt and helpful with any questions we had. The process to get our visas together was long and tedious and we're so glad that we had someone to walk us through every step. We truly feel like we couldn't have done this without him! He set us up in a school we feel very lucky to be at. We just started our fourth week so it's still very new to us but we're having a wonderful time so far. It's also extremely reassuing knowing that we still have help from Travel and Teach if anything comes up in the future. We're so happy to be here!

What would you improve about this program?
We can't think of any.

Woo!

My boyfriend and I both decided to teach in South Korea for a year. Our recruiter, Niko, was very helpful finding us a job! We were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a couple position but he successfully found one. We ended up accepting an offer with Cheongna SLP. Niko answered all of our questions and even made sure we were doing well once we settled in. We have only worked for a month here so far, however, we love it. It is a lot of work but the school really does love the students and cares about their studies and that's the sort of school we were looking for!

My time so far in South Korea

Niko was with me every step of the way and was very helpful from day one. He made everything seem so easy. It's only been about 3 weeks, but I love it so far. The kids are really well behaved and really seem to like me. The communication is great between the native and foreign teachers. I just think there should be more training for the job. I would gladly recommend this program to anyone interested in teaching abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
Add some sort of standardized training program for the type of school each teacher will be teaching at.

Questions & Answers

Hi Cazedi, Unfortunately the Korean government requires people to have a BA in order to get a working visa.

HI Leila, There are only 7 countries that South Korea will grant teaching visas to. They are: Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. If you are not a citizen of one of these countries, there unfortunately is no chance for you to get a teaching visa for Korea.

Hi Angel, Yes, we are still active :) I don't see your application, so please feel free to submit it again here: https://www.travelandteachrecruiting.com/apply-now/

Hi Alicia, You only need to have a Bachelor's degree in order to teach in Korea, so age isn't a factor.
