When I first signed up, I had no idea what to expect. Covid had just set upon the world, and I was in the midst of looking for something life changing. Not the absolute best time to change up your life, but it’s been the best decision I’ve made so far as an adult. Rvf has helped make this not only the easiest transition, but has gone above and beyond their duties with helping me get here in Madrid. I had a few problems early on, and Harrison was always there every step of the way to help make sure I wasn’t unattended, and also helped me to feel comfortable through out the entire process. I am currently writing this in Spain, and not only had made lifelong new friends, but lifetime memories and it’s only been a month. I can’t wait to look forward to the next 8 months of my time here, regardless of covid. I’m having the time of my life!

What was your funniest moment?

My funniest moment was by far trying to figure out the transportation system in Madrid. I live in sol, and my work is 45 minute commute north. I had to hope on a tram and bus to get there. So I scan my card and it works on the tram, so I assume it’ll work on the bus. Yeah that’s a no go! I got on the bus on the way to school and it wouldn’t work, and not only would it not scan, but they don’t take debit cards on most buses. Euros only. So the bus driver is yelling at me in Spanish, and I’m freaking out saying I don’t understand what he’s saying (I speak hardly any Spanish). Well luckily a nice woman overheard the yelling, and gave him 2 euros for me to continue to ride the bus and make it to work on time.

RVF is a great and relatively affordable way to enroll in Spain's auxiliary program. If you want to teach English in Spain, but are too intimidated by the all the paperwork and bureaucracy (American and Spanish) that you have to deal with, RVF is a good way to go.

I've been having a great time teaching English to little kids in Galicia. I've seen so much of Spain already and I'm excited to see a lot more. There's no way I'd be here if it weren't for the helpful people of RVF guiding me through every step of the way.

RVF International was extremely helpful. They always responded to emails in a timely manner, they made the application process less stressful by giving detailed instructions, and they provided a handful of resources for all aspects of post application (housing, phone/internet, flights, etc). If you have any doubts regarding the application or housing or really any part of the entire process/experience, I strongly recommend using RVF. It will make everything much easier for you! I was very happy!

What would you improve about this program?

Honestly I wouldn’t change a thing about the program!!

I honestly do not know how people get through the process of becoming a North American Language and Cultural assistant without RVF! From the application process, to the step by step instructions regarding obtaining your visa, and the total support once you arrive in Spain, I never felt alone in my journey. Any time I had a question, problem or concern, Harrison and his team at RVF were there to support me in any way I needed. I highly recommend RVF to help you realize your dream of living and working in Spain.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

I would choose to live in Southern Spain. Although parts of Basque Country are quite beautiful, it is a very different culture and climate than other parts of Spain. Also, I would have arrived with much more savings, as the transition to getting paid is a slow process. But, obtaining RVF’s services is something I would do again and again!

I had Skype meetings where I was walked through every step of the application process, visa process, and all of the paperwork in between. When there was a hiccup with my background check, (the documents had gotten water damaged in the mail, no one's fault but the mail carrier) Mr Fowler called and emailed the company that does the background checks, and made sure I got a discount when I had to run the background check again. He's also regularly called or emailed to follow up on everything. My experience with the company has been great, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to go to Spain!

I have been teaching and living in Ronda Andalusia for 3 months, with 5 or 6 months left, and I am extremely happy here. The director of RVF International is someone that I have known for a long time and is a very genuine guy. I enlisted his company to help me smoothly transition to Spain. They helped me to organize everything, schedule appointments, get the Visa process done efficiently, and even gave me extra support and options when I ran into some trouble with the process. The high school I work at is amazing and the kids are a lot of fun. I've also had weekends and time to travel some around Spain/Europe. I recommend teaching in Spain and recommend getting that extra help from RVF International!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?

Landing in an unfamiliar place and settling into an unfamiliar job was nerve-wrecking at first. It is normal to feel lonely for the first little bit. If this is something you want to do, this lonely feeling is really easy to overcome if you just put yourself out there. I now have Spanish roommates and friends, friends in other cities, and I see people I know in the streets daily!

RVF International is a fantastic program! I'd been searching for way to teach English abroad and when I found this program, I knew it would be the best fit for me. The constant support and resources they provided for me before and during my time in Spain was so helpful, I couldn't have done this without the program. My first year was amazing and now I'm currently in my 2nd, for everyone wanting to teach in Spain, I 100% recommend this program!. Visa app assistance, program app, housing guides, etc.

My name is Lucas and I am originally from New Jersey, United States. Currently, I am an auxiliary of English in Madrid, Spain. The transition of coming from America and settling into Spain has been very easy for me and I have to give a big thanks to RVF International for their endless help and constant support. Questions & Answers

Is there a housing stipend? Or is housing provided? If not, is that affordable with the pay there?

Hello Jeremy, Thank you for your question! Housing is independent and is not included in the program. However, our program has a very comprehensive housing assistance plan that helps our program participants find housing in Spain. On average, on average those in our program who follow our housing plan move into a fully furnished apartment in Spain within the first 48-72 hours of arriving in Spain...

Why did you choose this program?

I’d been looking for the perfect stepping stone to move to Spain and this program checked all the boxes. It gives you the chance to live and work in Spain for 8 months with the option to renew for another year. And the schedule is unbeatable. Four hours of (super chill) work a day and a 3-day weekend every week to travel? C’mon.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

RVF International truly did all the heavy lifting. They guided us step-by-step, letting us know exactly which appointments to book and when (and sometimes even booked them for us!). They reminded us about all the paperwork we needed, double-checked everything we got back from the consulate (which absolutely saved me when they caught that I was given the wrong visa!), and continued to support us throughout the entire year. Plus, they kept things fun with competitions + amazing prizes! The only part you handle on your own really is finding an apartment — but even then, they give you as much guidance and support as possible! You’re not alone in anything.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I honestly felt pretty prepared going into this, but one thing I was not anticipating was the incredible people I’d meet! I expected this move abroad to be a bit lonely and more of a solo journey — but I was very wrong in the best way. Within my first week, I met two fellow RVF participants placed the same city as me who quickly became my best friends and life-long soulmates. This journey has given me so much more than I ever imagined. If you stay open, it will reward you with life-changing experiences, connections, and so many magical moments you’ll never forget.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Each school is different, but I worked Monday-Thursday from 10am-2pm. Some days I had a 30 minute break, others an hour or even an hour and a half. During your breaks, you can plan lessons — or if you get lucky like me and your school doesn’t expect much from you, you can go out to eat or run errands and come back later on. This is maybe the chillest job you’ll ever have, so enjoy it and don’t get worked up about the little things! You are mainly here to learn about Spain and travel on the weekends.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was probably learning Spanish and understanding the Andalusian accent, which is notoriously fast. I overcame this by living and breathing Spanish from the minute I signed up for the program. I found podcasts, binged Spanish shows, wrote journal entries in Spanish, found Spanish locals online to practice with, listened to strictly Spanish music, etc etc etc. I was obsessed, and within 2 months, I already reached an intermediate level with no Spanish background whatsoever! Not saying it’s easy, but my fear lit a fire under me and I squashed it as soon as possible.

That said, my roommate here in Spain never learned Spanish and her experience has been amazing as well. While I highly recommend learning the language to be able to connect with locals and enrich your time here, it’s not a deal-breaker and you’ll be just fine no matter what! So don’t let the language scare you off. It’s become one of my favorite parts of living here and I prefer speaking in Spanish :-)

How has this program changed your life?

If it weren’t for this program, I never would have met the love of my life. My boyfriend is from Brazil and moved to Spain 12 years ago. After signing up for RVF International, I came to Spain to scope out what city I wanted to move to. On that trip, I met him, and we’ve been together ever since. We now live together with our puppy in a beachfront apartment right on the boardwalk (which is half the price of my humble studio apartment in Los Angeles) and we even plan to get married soon. Spain is truly my forever home.

And lastly, it’s important to mention that before arriving here, my life in the US was becoming increasingly more impossible. I was by no means thriving (post-back surgery, homeless, in-debt, jobless)… I owe RVF International more than I can put into words. They didn’t just help me move abroad, they helped me rebuild my life. I will be forever grateful and the #1 fan and spokesperson for this amazing program.

I hope that you give yourself the gift of this opportunity. It doesn’t have to be forever like it is for me. You can always go back home with a lifetime of memories from your 8 months in Spain.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is definitely the time I lived in France. I traveled to this country to continue my studies at the University of Rennes. I spent 9 months living there, the experience was amazing! I improved my French and I met many good friends there! I was able to visit many EU countries while living there. One of the best experiences in my life!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have grown in many areas! I love getting to help others experience my beautiful country, Spain, and everything it has to offer. It is very rewarding to be part of this team and have that bond with every single person I speak with in the program. Working with this amazing team has been one of the best parts of it.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I love to hear when a returning student sends us an email expressing their gratitude for our constant support and that they were able to find a beautiful community of people and connect with them thanks to our program. It's very rewarding to know we were there to help and assist them whenever they needed it.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would choose our Teach English in Spain Program because it's exactly what you need when you travel abroad.
The support you receive in every step before, during, and after you arrive to Spain makes you not feel alone at no point and you can feel more relaxed in a country so far away from yours.
I would also choose this program for the confidence it gives to their customers.

I think our company is unique because of the support we offer to our clients and the transparency of our service.
