Italy Teaching Program

My host family were so wonderful, their food, lifestyle and culture was such a gift to be shared with me - I could not be more grateful to them. Also my camp was so brilliant, I learnt so much about myself through teaching and from the children! The kids were so funny and individual and I was so proud of all the progress they made over our time together.

It definitely improved my confidence so much and just making me more patient and positive too! believe it has made me a much better and effective teacher as I brought more positivity and exciting energy to my classroom and it was reflected in my students. It also really pushed me out of my comfort zone with my host family and I'm so glad it did.

This was helped by our amazing training in San Remo where I learnt everything I needed and made friends genuinely for life.

The progress itself was well explained, easy to follow and felt like it was well-informed. I felt safe and trusted the company and knew I could get in touch with Gotoco at any point should I have needed to. Costs were great, a bargain really for how wonderful the experience was!

The end of program group trip to Turin was so fun! We all got to hang out again and celebrate finishing the program - we got our hostel & meal together paid for too over the weekend and just was such a brilliant note to end on.

What was your funniest moment?
We all got so obsessed with the camp songs even when we had group bonding nights out in training we ended up jumping in the sea & singing them
Pros
  • Brilliant host family experience
  • Great learning and teaching experience
  • Brilliant training to prepare
Cons
  • Sometimes it can be quite tiring in the schools - Italian kids are crazy!
  • A bit out of my comfort zone at first but settled in soon after !
  • T-Shirt tanlines

Gotoco Spain Programme

I would recommend Gotoco’s Spain programme! I spent 3 weeks in a small Spanish town; volunteering at a sports camp for children. The camp was centred around improving the students English skills. I was keen to try something new after completing my university studies. The programme was a great way to meet new people from around the UK and Spain whilst also exploring a part of Spain I was previously unfamiliar with. I made so many memories that I will cherish forever and I am glad I participated in the programme.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would read up more on the location. The camp was very rural and it would have been useful to be more aware of the lack of facilities.
Pros
  • Chance to improve Spanish
  • Meet new people
  • Experience a different culture
Cons
  • Long days
  • Rural location

Italy Languages Without Borders

Having never been to Italy before , I found the program to be an incredible experience. From learning about cultures to gaining valuable skills, everything was amazing. Having the opportunity to go Venice with a host family was amazing where I had my first Italian pizza experience. This experience was made smooth and memorable by the coordinators' support and communication. It was great to see them prepared and thorough with everything, from detailed travel plans to itineraries! I will forever be grateful of this opportunity, thank you! I had the best 3 weeks in Italy.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
To not be afraid and to go for it. Having an opportunity like this doesn't come around often. As I did, I am confident you will have a wonderful time.
Pros
  • Making friends
  • Immerse oneself in a new culture
  • Going out your comfort zone

The program's balance of teaching and cultural activities allowed me to truly engage with Thai culture and make a real impact in the classroom. The Gotoco team provided exceptional support, making sure every aspect of the experience was smooth and enjoyable. Gotoco Vietnam Programme

Such an amazing and well funded programme - the teaching was challenging but doable and there was support from the coordinators throughout. Pretty much every weekend we were able to explore Vietnam - our school even helped us organise transport and gave advice. Plus, there is an orientation week in Hanoi and an end of programme trip to Hoi An - with group meals and so many activities paid for, it was really fun. Definitely, definitely apply! Thank you so much GOTOCO, I had the best 2 months in Vietnam :)))

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Living in a foreign country
  • Gaining new skills

Fulfiling Experience teaching and traveling in northern Vietnam

A very good opportunity to throw yourself into a new environment and balance travelling with working abroad. It was a good way to live in a town off the tourist trail and get to know new people, including both Vietnamese locals and other teachers. It's a good entry-level opportunity to go into teaching and lead lessons. I recommend such an experince to fresh graduates, school leavers, and those seeking a new lease for life and if you want to challenge yourself to build teaching and communication skills and get a taster for living and working abroad!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Deep fried Frog and Grilled Pigeon!
Pros
  • Good way to meet a wide range of new people
  • Gives you an entry-level 'taster' for living and teaching abroad
  • Gets you out of your comfort zone
Cons
  • A couple of unfulfiled expectations - e.g. Vietnamese lessons promised which we didn't get at our placement
