Bali 2022

My six weeks with Gotoco were some of the best of my life. From building a great relationship with my class of students to exploring the beautiful landscape of Bali, I loved almost every moment I spent on the program. I really benefited from time spent in the classroom with the students, since the confidence I gained in being able to stand in front of a class of students and deliver a lesson has been very helpful. It was also great to learn how to think on my feet and carry off an unplanned moment with the confidence to pass it off. I will treasure the friendships and memories I made for a very long time. This is a fantastic option for anyone looking for affordable travel as a student.

Gotoco funded summer in Spain

I was really grateful to have this experience and get my first insight into teaching English, it has definitely inspired me to pursue teaching English and travelling in the future. It has been a fantastic experience which pushes you in the best ways that an individual at university can be pushed, I would highly recommend this programme as a way of gaining insight into other cultures and developing your personal and professional independence. On a personal level, I met some incredible people this summer - both English and Spanish alike. It was great to meet and come together with like minded students from across the UK, I think some foundations for really great friendships have been cemented here.

Pros
  • great way of travelling
  • fantastic way of meeting new people from all different backgrounds
  • a great first insight into teaching English
Cons
  • you must be really independent
  • you need to be really organised

Very good experience

I had a really good time this summer! I was paired with The English Camp Company in Austria and had an excellent time - the training was extremely enjoyable and informative, I loved staying with host families, and I met lots of other like-minded teachers who I hope to remain friends with now the programme has ended. It's also great to see a programme that has good funding options in place and I think it's a huge advantage to be able to get a TEFL qualification from it as well. Would recommend as an enjoyable experience to get you out of your comfort zone!

Pros
  • Opportunity to get TEFL qualification
  • Good funding options
  • Gain confidence and meet new people
Cons
  • We were promised by ECC that we'd always have our own room in accommodation but that didn't end up always being the case
  • Felt funding options and what they involve could have been explained more clearly/explicitly before we went away
  • Cultural tour at the end wasn't always super organised (we sometimes got key info like hostel booking numbers/train tickets at quite short notice)

Great fun and very enriching

I would recommend this programme, because I think not only is it a very enriching and interesting experience, but also I just genuinely had a great time, having a lot of fun and meeting great people. The teaching was very enjoyable, but we also had time to explore and do our own thing. For instance, we were able to travel to Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Siem Reap and Kor Phangan across our time there and had the freedom to really enjoy those opportunities. Most of all though, it was great to get to know people I wouldn't have met otherwise. Really nothing to complain about!

Gotoco month-long placement in Thailand

It is truly very unique to have such an insightful experience provided at such a heavily subsidised cost. You learn so much during the five weeks, not only about what it means to be a good teacher, but also about a foreign culture in a way that is impossible to do when you a only visiting as a tourist. It has given me greater awareness of what teaching English abroad entails, as it is a career option I have been considering for some time now. I believe that, should I pursue this as a career path, I will be better informed on how to be a better teacher. It was also great being put with 4 other gotoco'ers as it necessitated effective communication every day to better plan our lessons, and I feel that this has been the area which I have most improved on.

Pros
  • Heavily subsidised
  • Very well organised
  • Opportunities to use the month-long placement as a stepping stone to longer placements with Gotoco

My summer with Gotoco & Educo !

My Summer abroad this year was fantastic. I’d been planning it since freshers week! I saw their stand and had to learn more. I love volunteering and projects that nurture special experiences.

The staff online were so easy to talk to and helped me decide which project to chose from. There were so many! Genuinely whatever location/project you’re looking for Gotoco can help make it happen. I ended up choosing to go to Italy to teach English through music & drama with Educo.

There were complications on Educos part (not their fault) so whilst away there was some panic and confusion as to how our project was going to look. Luckily, Gotoco were great on their end and organised and extra cultural tour week for us. From what I’m aware, we didn’t have to pay extra either. They really helped out a lot of my friends doing the same program with me.

A cultural tour is basically this reward ✨ almost ( after all the hard work) thag you get to go on after the teaching to relax- Some projects might differ, most are like this.
We got to go to Venice in the week of Educo has now work, and then Rimini as pre organised.

On my end my summer with Educo was fantastic. They’re also an independent company, like Gotoco, so of course after the pandemic there’s going to be a bit of turbulence. But next year things will keep re building. That’s why it’s really important to work with companies like this because it not only supports an organisation of dedicated ppl, but it also supports the local areas you’ll be working with <3

10/10 experience and I will be going with them next summer to do other things!!!

You can chose between a Tefl/ TESOL. They offer help with funding if you’re broke (like me and other students haha) or you can go with your university.

Pros
  • Special experience
  • Learn how to be a teacher
  • Meet unforgettable people

Great experience, perfect opportunity to travel and make friends

Amazing experience. Made so many friends and a great way to gain experience working with children, really enjoyed it! Matty was great during the cultural tour, gave a lot of insight into German culture and offered advice on how to teach children, he is well experienced in the field and was so helpful having his advice. The cultural tour is a lot of fun, a great way to get to know everybody before you start to work together, you are given an allowance for each day you are there to cover the costs of food, and accommodation is free.

Pros
  • Making friends
  • Not expensive
  • Experience with working children
Cons
  • Communication is sometimes not amazing
