Gotoco really does offer an amazing opportunity to live and work in China; you can be placed either in a school or a summer camp (like I was) but either way the chance to experience Chinese culture, travel and get out of your comfort zone is one you don't want to miss. Gotoco also cover a lot of the costs. Food and accommodation is covered, they provide stipends for your days off and they can also provide a travel bursary if you choose to go somewhere other than Yangshuo after the project ends.

If I have one negative thing to say, it's just that Gotoco's communication during the application process needs improvement. If you apply early like I did, be prepared to not hear anything for very long periods of time.

Such a productive summer! It was a really good experience to teach abroad- teaching in the UK is very straightforward and so when I started teaching in China, I was hit with the realisation that this is such an amazing thing to do because it is so different from how it is done in England- and especially as the some of the children I taught had limited English. It enabled me to really think about how I was teaching and bring it to levels to how it can be understood because of language and cultural boundaries.
I always enjoy learning about new cultures so when I arrived in China, I definitely had a month and half packed full of new and exciting things to try and learn.
I would recommend this to a friend because I think it is an amazing way to immerse yourself into China and doing so by teaching and having memorable times with children will have a life changing impact.

Most productive summer yet! New experiences, friends, challenges, things and so much more learnt through the trip. Had fun spending a month teaching in China! Learnt a lot of new things about China i never knew and not only China but also other countries through other international counsellors. Was worried that about settling in but person in charge was really helpful and kind. There were security 24/7 round the block which made staying there safe. Would definitely recommend and might just go back again next summer

I had a fantastic summer in China thanks to Gotoco! The teaching was so rewarding particularly as the children were so enthusiastic and willing to learn. I made some great friends and got to experience the authentic Chinese culture and discover some incredible sites, that I otherwise would have never of had the opportunity to see. The teaching really boosted my confidence and enhanced my public speaking skills. I would highly recommend for people to participate in Gotoco's programmes in China.

Teaching in China has not only helped me learn and discover new things about a new country and culture, but also about myself. Whilst it was one of the most challenging experiences I've faced, I really enjoyed the mix of new people I worked with, as well as the novelty of interacting with children all day. The teaching itself can be difficult, but it's very rewarding and fun for the most part. Yangshuo was incredible and I would recommend to apply.

Really incredible experience would strongly recommend to any university student. GOTOCO provided me an opportunity to visit a part of the world I have never seen before, meet some really incredible people, from the UK, USA and from China, and I was able to do something really fulfilling with my summer. It is also incredible that I can come out of this with a TEFL certification, all paid for! Travelling around China after the programme ended was the highlight of my trip and I got to see some really amazing things.

Spending the summer in China teaching was a really rewarding and fullfilling experience. Teaching in a small school allowed for deep connections to be built between staff, volunteers and students. The children really appreciate all you do for them and especially adore all the games/ activities you teach them. The staff are brilliant, they will bendover backwards to ensure you are in full health and having an enjoyable experience.
Yangshuo is one of the most spectacular places I have ever been to and would definitely recomment going. I would also recommend spending a few weeks post project travelling as it is fairly cheap to travel across China and you will meet so many new friends! You never need to worry about feeling alone because you make so many friends on the project and post-project.

One of the most insightful, fun, and rewarding experiences of my life. Gotoco are offering the invaluable opportunity to immerse yourself in a foreign culture and develop life skills in a way that is totally impossible in your local environment. It's hard to begin to list the most memorable aspects of my trip, but these range from receiving hand-written letters of sincere appreciation from my 13 year old students to the freedom of riding a moped through the stunning Yangshuo countryside with people who were just as excited to be in China as I was. Any difficulties you are faced with are quickly overcome, and the reward of pushing yourself and meeting a challenge is certainly worth it.
