My solo trip to Abetifi in Ghana was genuinely one of the most rewarding and unforgettable experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a warm, supportive community that made me feel at home straight away. The balance between meaningful work, cultural immersion, social life, and travel opportunities made this experience truly special.

A huge highlight was the work i was doing in the local primary school. Spending time in the classroom supporting their learning was incredibly fulfilling, and it was amazing to see how eager and enthusiastic the children were every day. Alongside this, I helped coach football with the kids, which quickly became one of the most enjoyable parts of my routine. Football is a universal language, and it created instant connections, laughter, and a real sense of teamwork. Seeing the kids’ excitement when playing football was incredibly rewarding.

Football also played a big role outside of volunteering. In the evenings, I had the chance to play with local teams, which was an unforgettable way to integrate into village life and build genuine relationships with people in the community. These matches were competitive, fun, and full of energy, and they gave me a real insight into daily life and local culture in Ghana.

Living arrangements were another major highlight of the experience. I stayed in a house with a mix of volunteers from all over the world as well as people who lived and worked in Ghana full-time. This created an amazing social environment where there was always something happening. We spent evenings playing games together, including escape-room-style challenges, which were both hilarious and great for bonding. We also played football and tennis together, shared meals, and spent a lot of time talking, laughing, and learning from each other’s backgrounds and experiences.

The social side of the trip was just as memorable as the volunteering itself. We drank, partied, and celebrated together, creating friendships that I know will last long after the trip ended. Despite being a solo traveller, I never once felt alone — there was always a strong sense of community and inclusion.

In addition to village life, I was lucky enough to explore more of Ghana. Visiting one of the nearby lakes was absolutely breathtaking and offered a peaceful contrast to the busy daily routine. I also travelled to Accra, where I experienced the city’s vibrant nightlife and energy, which was an incredible contrast to village life and showed another side of the country.

Overall, this experience exceeded all my expectations. It offered meaningful work, cultural immersion, adventure, friendship, and unforgettable memories all in one. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to challenge themselves, give back, and fully immerse themselves in a new culture — it truly changed my perspective and left a lasting impact on me.

I stayed in my program for 3 weeks as a physical education teacher in a summer school in Abetifi. I had the opportunity to animate the class with a lot of freedom and I also had some help when I needed to. Outside of the school I was helping a football team as a coach. It was also a beautiful experience. The member of the organisation are really dedicate to What they do and it was one of the best time of my life. During the weekend you have the opportunity to explore the country and I advise you to go cape three coast. I 100% recommend it.

My time in Ghana was incredible! I went for 4 weeks to help farming and reforestation and i enjoyed every day of it. The people there are so happy to see you and talk with you on the streets and also very kind and helpful if you get lost anywhere. On the big market in accra you have to be careful because they want your money, so don’t be stupid on this one. The nature there is so stunning (but don’t forget you mosquito spray) and the food is so delicious. I remember just happy and joyfull moments of this trip and i will remember it for the rest of my life. Bless this homeland Ghana and love to everyone!

Absolutely amazing experience. The best 4 weeks of my life. Incredible people both at the house as well as at school. completely affordable on top of that as well. Can’t really think of anyone who wouldn’t have fun here. Never once had a bad experience. When I got sick after drinking lake water (my bad) I was taken care of by the staff and taken to the hospital. When we were in a dangerous area in Kumasi on our way to Mole, people offered to help protect us and walk with us. They gave us mango and tea as well for nothing in return. People always want to talk to you and its never with other intentions, their simply interested in your life. I had an absolutely amazing experience in Ghana with Atlas

My experience in Ghana lasted one month this summer, and I honestly wish I could have stayed much longer. It was one of the most meaningful and important experiences of my life. If you are afraid of traveling alone, don’t be. Once you arrive, you will feel at home, part of a big family. That’s exactly how it was for me: after just two days, I already felt deeply connected to everyone around me. The bonds you create are so strong that even now I am still in close contact with many people, and I can’t wait to see them again.

This is a life experience that I believe everyone should have at least once. It reminded me of what truly matters, of how beautiful it is to smile at life, to play, and to enjoy simple moments, even when something isn’t quite right.

I took part in the school project with the children, and I cannot express how much I learned from them. At first, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to help in any meaningful way, but I quickly realized that even the smallest help means so much. So don’t let small insecurities hold you back.

The coordinators were incredible at managing everything. They made me feel safe at all times, helped me truly understand the local culture (including a weekly Twi language lesson), and gave me the opportunity to live unique and authentic local experiences, as well as enjoy many different social activities that made the experience even more fun and memorable.

This experience changed me and the way I see the world. I will definitely go back as soon as I can.

I did this program between working and starting my studies, and after all I’m very happy that I committed and went to Ghana. The people were so friendly, staff was very supportive and just great guys to be around. The project sites were welcoming, especially the school I did my sports program in. On the weekends/in my free time I was also able to visit some cool places all around Ghana (especially Cape Three Point), due to the staff at Atlas and the other volunteers. I had a great time and I would always recommend this program to anyone that is interested to spend some authentic time abroad while also supporting a good cause.

The local coordinators were incredibly supportive, organized, and always available, which made it easy to fully focus on the work and the experience itself.

Working within the community showed me what real connection, gratitude, and resilience look like. The people I met taught me far more than I could ever give in return. Every smile, every conversation, and every shared moment reminded me why volunteering matters so deeply.

The project was well structured, yet flexible enough to adapt to individual strengths and ideas. Accommodation and logistics were handled with care, and I always felt safe and supported. Beyond the project work, Ghana itself is a beautiful country full of warmth, culture, and life – a place that truly stays with you.

I am deeply grateful for this experience and would wholeheartedly recommend volunteering in Ghana to anyone who wants to grow, give back, and gain a new perspective on life. I didn’t just leave with memories – I left with a changed heart.

This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. The Atlas organizers immediately made me feel at ease, and I was able to significantly improve my English and do concrete things with my reforestation mission.

I also had the opportunity to explain at a school why we were doing this and why reforestation is so important. Thanks to this experience, I have broadened my horizons even further by meeting people from all over the world. It's a leap of faith worth taking, you won't be disappointed, i'm sure.
