Enrolling in this internship was honestly one of the best decisions I have ever made. I learnt so much more than I was expecting, met some of the most incredible people and had an experience of a lifetime. The Beyond Academy team are welcoming, kind and compassionate. They supported me, and the rest of the team, throughout the entire summer. We had super organised social events and constant feedback opportunities. The company was perfectly suited to me and I could not be more grateful to have been given the opportunity to work there. I would not be in the position I am in now without Beyond!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?

Going to the theatre to watch Hairspray. This was one of the best nights in London, no doubt. The experience was amazing, the atmosphere was incredible and the memory will last forever.

Beyond Academy gave me the perfect tools to discover a part of me that I didn't know. The concerted effort to find a summer programme that suited me, my location and interest was a standout.

I can only thank Beyond Academy, who found a variety of sustainability-based programmes to suit my ultimately quite specific needs! To have seen the dedication to find a role that matched my credentials and interests was truly special, as the Beyond Programme Coordinators truly treat Interns like family. Love it - thank you!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?

Presenting to the team about an area of interest.
This was a challenge, however I projected my voice in an attempt to appear confident.
I was able to overcome the hurdle, and presented well to a versatile team.

This course provided me with the perfect dichotomy between providing an asset for the company through market research and gaining personal and career growth myself.

Thank you to Beyond Academy who partnered with the ideal company for me to potentially pursue a career in sustainability; a career path that is not always simple to find!

The Beyond Academy programme entailed an ideal balance between prioritising accommodation and employment, while also supplementing it with enjoyable pastime activities during the week and on the weekend.

What would you improve about this program?

I would make the programme more focused towards students, especially for undergraduate study.

Could not recommend Beyond Academy and the team more such amazingly helpful, kind and welcoming individuals who would make you feel at home no matter where in the world you are. No matter what time of day or what the situation they will be straight back with a solution. I have made the best group of friends which I will definitely be in touch with for life, all with similar drives and ambitions to do well. Gaining experience in the workplace is so important and opens your imagination to all the options and roads that one can take that you mightn't have even thought about before. Honestly, the most incredible summer with unforgettable memories. I have absolutely 0 complaints to make.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

My advice for future travelers would be to go for it, you will not regret it trust me! Do not be afraid of moving to a new country on your own you will learn so much about yourself and quite specially you will see yourself grow and improve little by little everyday. You won't even be on your own you will be surrounded by the best individuals and your future friends for life!

I had the most incredible experience in London. It was quite overwhelming when I first arrived but the orientation and welcome dinner helped a lot. London was so much fun and I loved every second of my time there. I definitely learnt a lot and have grown a lot as a person too. I worked at a fashion company near Oxford Circus and was able to get really amazing hands-on experience. I really appreciated all of the effort that went into finding my internship company and role and it worked out so well. I went to some events with Beyond and my company and met really inspiring people. I was so lucky that my programme finished just before COVID-19 got bad and I was able to get home safely. The internship has already helped me so much and helped me land a full-time job with an amazing company back home.
Overall, I definitely recommend an internship in London and Beyond Academy are the best!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

Only thing is that I would liked to have stayed even longer :)

I loved my time interning London and I am really grateful to Beyond Academy making it such an amazing time. The team at Beyond made sure we always had something to do with different events and dinners etc. Personally I really enjoyed the workshop and coaching, it helped me figure out plans for how I want to start my career. I worked at a PR agency and my internship was so much fun, I just wish I could have stayed longer as I was involved in some exciting projects. The lockdown happened a few weeks after I left so I guess I was lucky. If you are thinking about an internship in London, I can tell you from experience that you will not regret it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

enjoy to the max and be open to new adventures! I loved it!

I had the most amazing 6 weeks in London. I spend a lot of time visiting the UK (my dad is British) but never in London, what an awesome city. I am planning to go back and work there. Honestly couldn't ask for more from the Beyond team. I interned in a really cool marketing agency in the Soho area. While there were only 5 other interns on the program at the same time as me we all got on very well and had a great time exploring the city. The community manager was super fun. She arranged several events every week and went above and beyond to make sure we all felt settled and were having the best experience. I just wish I had more time. Totally recommend interning in London and esp with Beyond Academy!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

I would recommend going to as many networking events as possible, as its a great way to make friends and network.

Annemarie is a Program Manager at Beyond Academy. Before working in Beyond Academy, Annemarie was a professional actor for 10 years and then worked as a creative arts psychotherapist within schools and hospitals. Annemarie is from Northern Ireland but is now based in London. Through her work at Beyond, she loves helping interns have amazing work and travel experiences

What is your favorite travel memory?

When I was 19, as part of a school trip, I got to trek the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and climbed Toubkal, the highest peak. It was incredible! The views were stunning and it felt like such an achievement to reach the summit.

My other memory is when I worked as an actor I got to fly out to LA on a job. It's a unique city - and seeing the Hollywood sign for the first time was quite something!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I’d say I have grown exponentially working for Beyond Academy! I have a diverse professional background, and when I first started working for Beyond I was looking for a role and a company where I could channel all my different skills and expertise. Beyond Academy has offered me this opportunity and allows me to continuously learn, develop and improve.

It's a fast past environment at Beyond Academy and a rapidly progressing company - It’s an exciting journey to be a part of!

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I love speaking to our students; from their initial admissions interview with us, right through to connecting with them during their internship program - and meeting them in person if it's in London! The students on our programs come from varied backgrounds and industries, and of course are from all over the world. As for my favourite stories from students, I’d say it's when we hear that their internship has gone so well that the company has offered them a full-time job! It's so encouraging and hugely exciting to watch their career kick-start.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I’d say the Tokyo Immersive Program. I’ve never been to Japan and would love to visit. What I love about our programs is that you get to travel and have a proper adventure whilst gaining valuable work experience. To live in and explore an amazing city such as Tokyo whilst supercharging my career at an awesome company - dream come true! Plus on the program you get to visit Mount Fuji and also make friends from all over the world!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

What makes Beyond Academy unique is that we are all so passionate about what we do. We care! And we want the best for our interns. Also, although we are a global company and work from all over the world, we have such a strong team bond and sense of community.

I'd say I was especially proud of the team this summer during our London Immersive Program. Our community team really went the extra mile for everyone on the program and provided them with such an awesome experience.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

A great team! Having shared beliefs and a supportive, well-functioning team is fundamental. Of course everyone has their off-days, but building and maintaining good working relationships and having clear, honest communication really is key from a personal professional perspective, and also for the growth of the company. Understanding your colleagues as people and helping to elevate them in their role is so important too.
