The Best Experience

I am so glad I chose to participate in this experience. I was able to immerse myself in a new culture while learning more about the field I'm studying and also making a ton of new friends. I feel like I have also grown personally and I have shown myself what I can be capable of. My program supervisors, Amanda and Antonella, were so helpful to me and all of the other interns. They were always there to answer our questions no matter how big or small. They dealt with our serious concerns but also became our friends - giving us their genuine advice on how to have the best time possible here in Milan. I will be so sad to leave all the people I met during this experience.

Pros
  • learned new skills to build my resume
  • amazing food :)
  • met new people and gained new perspectives
Cons
  • very hot, no AC
  • expensive

Milan

It was amazing being in a city where fashion is such a big deal. I would recommend this program to anyone that is in a creative field and especially interested in fashion. I learned a lot and feel like I applied my major to my job. This was such an eye opening experience and has pushed me outside my comfort zone so much. I really do feel like I have grown a lot and now have realized I would maybe like to live in a different country at some point in my life. Amanda and Antonella have been so helpful during this experience and have always been there when we needed it.

Pros
  • Work Experience
  • Travel
  • Learning
Cons
  • Could have been more people in the group
  • Could have been cool to have options for the jobs we got/ interview with multiple jobs

I love amanda and Antonella and they are so amazing and beautiful

I had such an amazing experience! I gained so much valuable experience to add to my resume that helped to prepare me for me future and I also learned so much about what I do and don’t want for my future career. I loved having the opportunity to experience life and work in a totally new city and environment, as well as being able to travel during the weekends. My housing was definitely another plus, as it was such an amazing apartment in a great area. We also had amazing program advisors, who truly made the experience so special.

Pros
  • New city experiences
  • Resume builders
  • Learn about yourself

Loved it

This is a great place to go if you want to learn some Italian but also be able to speak English everywhere you go! People are very friendly and Milan is very easy to get around using public transit. Also a great location for traveling to places outside of Milan! I had a great time and loved being able to work vs study because I feel like I am getting to improve my real life skills can get comfortable in a real life work setting! You definitely get a little bit more of a sophisticated abroad experience!

Pros
  • Accessibility
  • Safety
  • Big city
Cons
  • Only Italian food
  • Cold
  • Not super flexible work schedule

An Experience I Don’t Regret

My experience overall in Milan through Global Experiences was one that I do not regret. Although our program was fairly small (and felt this way at times), it was a way for me to form close relationships with my roommates. The first two weeks we were enrolled in half day language classes which gave us a lot of free time to explore and get situated with the trams and public transportation, as well as the layout of the city. After this, each of our individual internships picked up and occupied most of our time. Because of this, we traveled to various countries early on in the program as we had the time to do so. My internship placement was okay, and although I had some complaints and difficulties, overall I know that I learned a lot and will be able to use this experience as a stepping stone in whatever career path I take. The city is lively and there’s definitely stuff to do, but you have to look for it. Although not the typical study abroad experience with easy classes and partying, this I felt was the perfect happy medium of an abroad experience I missed out on due to COVID while also incorporating a job/internship/career jumper experience.

Pros
  • Easy Transportation
  • Great Shopping
  • Very Lively
Cons
  • Very Metropolitan, Not Very Green
  • Food Isn’t Incredible, But Okay
  • Summer Months Are Incredibly Hot

Milan

I did the Milan program for september-november 2022. It was most definitely an experience. I did enjoy it, and made some lifelong friends with other students there. Though, it was very expensive in the end. With no way to make income while living there, running out of funds was not uncommon.
The internship was definitely not what I would have expected or wanted, though it was to no fault of GE or the coordinators. It was an issue with the company and bosses.
In retrospect, this experience was worth it, though be careful with your funds and ability to live independently. Do this trip if you want to experience new culture, meet new people, and see new things. Do NOT do this trip just in the name of credits or just the internship. The internship is part of why you are here, but it isn’t meant to be the ONLY reason you are here.

Pros
  • Learning Italian
  • Vintage Shopping
  • Stunning Views
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Busy/Hectic
  • Only Okay Food

Milan Summer Fun

Milan The staff was incredible. The on site coordinators, Amanda and Antonella, we’re amazing. They did anything and everything in their power to make our experiences better. They were always responsive and genuinely cared about each and every one of us in the program. I will say the housing in Milan is a little tough because they’re just isn’t a lot available but they did everything they could to make us as comfortable as possible and get us the best accommodations. Amanda and Antonella were awesome but I think a third person to help out would be even better. There were a lot of students to handle and it was a huge on for just two people.

Pros
  • Incredible Food
  • Awesome Night Life
  • A lot of great vintage shopping
Cons
  • Didn’t have air conditioning in my first housing situation
  • Internship wasn’t as tailored to my interests and they said it would be
  • It was just super insanely hot in Milan

Milan!

My time in Milan was amazing. Global experiences is a bit disorganized, some students were sent home because they were not placed in internships, so that was really sad. Fortunately i did get placed, i had a great time at my job. Despite the drawbacks of global experiences as a whole, my program site coordinators were great. Antonella and Amanda were always helpful, kind, and planned events that allowed us to see and experience the staples in italy. They were awesome and really great resources when in Milan

Cons
  • Disorganized

It is not essential to speak Italian in order to participate in the Milan program. The majority of our interns who have attended the programs in Italy did not speak any Italy. While the majority of our placements in Milan are in English, we encourage that interns familiarize themselves with some of the Italian basics they learn in their language classes. Hope this helps!
