Unique and valuable experience

This is a unique and valuable experience because you are able to learn a lot and make an impact in such a short amount of time. What you learn and what impact you make is also your choice, so you can focus on the things that interest you most and make an impact in areas you want to learn or develop certain skills in. The programme is very well structured and there is a great support network built in. I personally wanted to gain experience in international development and sustainability, and it is quite difficult to find good internships/ experiences in these areas. However, there were so many options to work in these areas, and I now feel I have a unique experience to bring up in interviews.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would spend more time looking through through the internship portal as it had a wealth of information about Fiji, its economy and its culture. It would have been nice to integrate this more into my action project.

Virtual Internship

I think the virtual internship was a fantastic way to still keep the annual trip going but by reducing the price, it enabled more people to be able to join. I feel as though I was still in Fiji through the educational talks and words of the day, learning about the culture, the food and hearing from other people’s experiences. Still managing to submit and complete the action project was my favourite part and now I look forward to seeing what happens next with my suggestions. Thank you for it all!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would engage with more people on the internship!

Virtual internship

What first brought my attention for applying to do the virtual internship was to learn about Fijis culture and more likely to help with their development, and this was definitely achieved through the zoom meetings, fun fridays, Q and A sessions, and off course with the guidance off their marvelous mentors.
I would definitely repeat this experience, as it has been very emotive for me to contribute a grain of sand so that Fiji can improve ecologically, economically, structurally and in all other aspects.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Even though due to the COVID-19 this year we weren't able to travel, that is definitely a MUST

Was a great experience!

I really enjoyed the internship! I learnt so much about Fiji and it’s culture, as well as sustainable development. The skill series were also very helpful, especially as someone who would like to go into international development as a potential career. The programme was very organised, with great support systems and considering the programme was online, I still managed to network with fellow interns. The internship was great thing to focus on over summer, especially in such restricted times. 10/10 would recommend.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Interacting with fellow interns virtually. I’m a social person so I was a bit nervous beforehand but the Facebook groups for each cohort were really helpful and we all interacted quite well through zoom calls, Facebook group chats etc

Very valuable experience

This internship was very valuable in terms of gaining experience in fields where work experience is very difficult to find eg international development. It provided so much content, with guest speakers who have really inspired me in my general life and accessible learning content which has been fascinating to read through. The team has been very friendly and incredible in providing a personable and accessible experience for us interns! I really enjoyed working my way through the internship and will very much miss it. Overall it was well worth the money and wish I could do it for longer!

Important and impactful

This is a well run and fun internship. Excellent quality and hugely beneficial in looking outside your “bubble” and being able to learn a new culture and language. Also learn great skills in marketing, policy making, business plans and so much more. There is so much support available and multiple ways to ask questions to suit the needs of the intern. Also the action projects are so interesting and it is a great have an impact in benefit Fiji. I am hoping to do this internship again in the future as I have fallen for this project.

What was your funniest moment?
Leaning the culture modules and culture video sessions. Very interactive and well made.

Fantastic and Engaging Internship

Think Pacific's Virtual Internship exceeded all of my expectations! The volume and depth of content provided in the learning section of the internship was incredible and meant that I had a strong knowledge of Fijian culture before choosing my action project. The weekly mentor meetings provide you with all the support you could need, while engagement with other interns and live webinars make the 'remote' experience of the internship feel much more inclusive and supportive. My experience has been extremely fulfilling and has given me an invaluable insight into the NGO Sector, as well as a new found love for Fiji. Thank you Think Pacific!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would make more use of the online portal after the initial 4 week internship had finished. The culture modules and skills series include loads of material which would be beneficial outside of the internship.

Amazing opportunity

I took part in Think Pacific’s virtual internship as I wanted something meaningful to due during the summer of 2020. The internship was one month long the first week involved learning about the culture and traditions of Fiji. This was in depth and engaging. The second week involved choosing your action project. This included learning about organisations such as Lifeline Fiji and Fiji Mental Health Alliance as well as your area of internship (mental health, marketing, NGO management, education...). The third and fourth week you worked individually on your action project you have chosen before submitting your work alongside a recorded presentation. You are supported by an amazing mentor though-out your four weeks and have weekly mentor meetings. I have learnt so much more that I thought I would. I couldn’t recommend think pacific and their virtual internship enough!

What was your funniest moment?
The culture sessions on a Friday we enjoyable and made everyone laughing!
