Multifaceted and Eye-Opening Experience at ArtBound Initiative

As a current member of the ABI alumni community, I had such a blast as an ABI participant in 2025. In the span of 1 year, I respectively did two internships: a Magazine Editorial Internship and a Creative Writer Internship. Both taught me so much and allowed me to gain more confidence as an aspiring writer. Additionally, I gained a variety of important lessons and skills through the ABI Academy. These experiences combined have allowed me to grow, evolve, and become a better intern! Thank you, ABI!

Pros
  • Gain resume-building skills and good practice for job interviews
  • You'll learn how to build a creative portfolio if you need one (for writing, graphic designing, art etc.)
  • You'll gain more insight into how the creative industry works

Great Experience

My time with ABI and the internship they helped me secure had been wonderful. Very supportive, understanding of accessibility needs, and I learnt a lot too. My internship has been entirely virtual/remote but I still felt really connected and involved despite distance and time differences. Take advantage of all the opportunities because they are all useful and will help you in some way, even if you’re not expecting it. Definitely recommend ABI because if you put the work in and it’s absolutely worth it.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I was so nervous going into my interview but ABI gave me great advice.

Internship to one of the biggest production companies!

This program has truly transformed my life. I was searching for a meaningful opportunity to grow, to explore my potential as a filmmaker, and to take a bold step forward in my career. This was the perfect fit. It provided not only technical knowledge and creative skills, but also a strong support system and a sense of direction. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences, the mentors, and the connections I’ve made. Applying was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and it has opened doors I never imagined possible.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?

ABI Internship Experience

The ABI internship course was a great way to develop my connections and real-world experience. The design industry is a notoriously difficult environment to get your foot into, but with ABI I have been able to develop my resume, portfolio, and experience in a way to really benefit my odds. Everyone that I interacted with at ABI were great people, all putting effort into supporting me, teaching, and making me feel comfortable with my internship and future endeavours. My program manager, Jason, was extremely helpful, responsive, and supportive.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Job interviews are always nerve-racking, but the ABI course focuses a lot on making sure you are prepared, which was a great help.
Pros
  • Making Connections
  • Developing Real-World Exprience

Re-discovery myself through a whole new lens.

The opportunity with Artbound is one that I truly think no one can really miss out on! As some one who had a struggle to figure out their own life post graduation especially in the creative industries, Artbound allowed me to see the opportunities that arose from those whilst refining my skills for future employers.

There was also value when it came to the internship process itself, allowing myself to collaborate whilst also gain new skills and opportunity within the art gallery scene.

If you also feel stuck in your own situation, why not give this a shot?

Supportive professional development and helpful for a career shift!

I joined artbound initiative because I was interested in trying an internship in design, even though my degree was in illustration/visual art. They helped me rebuild my resume and portfolio website to be able to land an internship in my field of interest - which I wouldn't have been able to do on my own.
Artbound Initiative placed me with a wonderful internship company that matched my interests and goals, and I had plenty of support along the way from my coordinator Jason. Definitely reccommend :)

Pros
  • international work opportunities
  • career development
  • helpful team

An Invaluable Experience Meant For the Books

My introduction to ABI was one that was a bit unconventional. I was a gap-year student hailing from a relatively small town in North Carolina. Despite that, I had big dreams - dreams that I was committed to bringing into fruition. My experience working not only with the ABI network, but also those who I had the pleasure of meeting during my internship, has been truly insightful. Aside from broadening my world-view, this experience has definitely put my strengths and weaknesses into perspective. I feel like I've become more wise as a result of everything that has occurred throughout the length of the program, and it's for that reason that I'm so grateful.

Pros
  • I was able to met new people and subsequently gained a broader world-view.
  • I was able to assess my strengths and weaknesses, both professionally and personally.
  • I was able to release mindsets and behaviors that were limiting my potential.
Cons
  • I had to challenge my own expectations, in addition to others.

Great Opportunity

ABI and the ABI team gave me a lot of new skills and experience that I can take into my career as an artist. Not only did I learn how to get an internship, but I learned how to maneuver and market myself in the artworld. Thanks to ABI, I also made some incredible connections with other creatives. I did a virtual internship with a painter overseas. In this internship I was responsible for a lot of behind the scenes work in uploading pieces to sell, compiling a portfolio, etc. This gave me insight into what goes into being an artist and selling your work. The ABI team was incredibly helpful when I needed it. My program coordinator, Jason, was very helpful and attentive. When we spoke he was very kind and respectful, and answered all of my questions. Generally, the ABI team does really well in responding, and they expect the same from you. They answered any and all questions I had without belittling me, and were happy to help.

Pros
  • Great info on resume and cover letter building
  • Helpful in learning how to interview well
  • Good opportunity to make permanent connections in the art world
Cons
  • Modules need to be done in a certain amount of time, hard around holidays.
  • No info on how to make a website, social media, etc. (some tips, no instructions)
  • Some career coaches are better than others at communicating
