Great Opportunity

ABI and the ABI team gave me a lot of new skills and experience that I can take into my career as an artist. Not only did I learn how to get an internship, but I learned how to maneuver and market myself in the artworld. Thanks to ABI, I also made some incredible connections with other creatives. I did a virtual internship with a painter overseas. In this internship I was responsible for a lot of behind the scenes work in uploading pieces to sell, compiling a portfolio, etc. This gave me insight into what goes into being an artist and selling your work. The ABI team was incredibly helpful when I needed it. My program coordinator, Jason, was very helpful and attentive. When we spoke he was very kind and respectful, and answered all of my questions. Generally, the ABI team does really well in responding, and they expect the same from you. They answered any and all questions I had without belittling me, and were happy to help.

Pros
  • Great info on resume and cover letter building
  • Helpful in learning how to interview well
  • Good opportunity to make permanent connections in the art world
Cons
  • Modules need to be done in a certain amount of time, hard around holidays.
  • No info on how to make a website, social media, etc. (some tips, no instructions)
  • Some career coaches are better than others at communicating

Script Development Internship - Such a Great Experience!

Overall, the remote internship experience with ABI was so great. It was really cool to be able to connect with people from around the world who all have a desire to excel in the creative industries. ABI allowed me to connect to people I would have never been able to reach being from New Zealand. I was also able to gain such an invaluable insight into the world of fillmmaking/ pre-production even though it was virtual and this has opened so many more doors for me than I would have expected - it's also helped me so much in my own journey as a writer/ filmmaker. The ABI team, particularly Alif, Laura, and Zulfa, eased the journey by always being there to support me whenever I needed help. It was really great knowing that there were always people who were there to answer any concerns I had.

Pros
  • Career launch pad
  • Great connections from both industry professionals and the ABI community
  • Gives you access to an industry which is known for being difficult to 'break into'
Cons
  • Navigating time differences between host company and yourself
  • Can be isolating working remotely because of the lack of immediacy you have with other interns/ team members from the company

Animation Internship for Writing

There were some challenges in finding an internship that fits my interests and expectations for a starting date, however, the experience was still very rewarding. Though I would have enjoyed utilizing my technical skills in producing animations, I gained lots of experience in the writing process for television shows. It was very interesting to see the development take its shape through the company's method of brainstorming. I also gained connections with professionals at the company and other interns who share the same passion for storytelling.

Pros
  • Flexible hours
  • Gaining professional insight
  • Building connections
Cons
  • Slight misalignment to internship interests
  • Starting date changes for internship
  • Independent work

Virtual ArtBound Initiative Fall Internship

The process before the internship was immensely valuable. They train you to be a good intern and to navigate the nitty gritty of any application process now and in the future. I still find myself returning to the notes from that time quite often. The internship itself was a great experience and all of the Artbound staff are consistently and readily available to help throughout. Consistent communication between me and the Artbound staff made me feel confident during my internship and made the process go smoothly.

ArtBound Initiative Internship

I am grateful to ABI in helping me land my summer internship, which taught me so much about collaboration, communication, and taking initiative, especially when it involves my career. Through this program, I was able to receive guidance and navigate through my internship. There was always a professional I could reach out to and receive direction or resources. With this, I now know how to effectively write and compose my resumes, website, and portfolio. My favorite aspect of this program is the community and connections that I made.

Pros
  • Self-Growth
  • Resources
  • Networking

Thank-you Artbound

At the start I thought that Artbound was a fake service, but after connecting with others it most certainly was the real deal. They were amazing with their support and got me into a worthy internship that has taught me a lot about my industry. I was able to take part in fun projects and my supervisors were great with helping me in areas I struggled say presenting my folio and resume. Only bad side was COVID not letting me go overseas to New York where I was originally meant to go. But either way it was good.

Pros
  • Lovely people
  • Get industry experience
Cons
  • Was remote
  • COVID prevented me from going overseas

Remote internship with an amazing agency!

I am extremely happy with the agency I was matched with. Even though it was a remote internship, I am glad to have come out of the experience with new skills gained and existing skills polished, such as my organizational skills and adaptability. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, which encouraged me to ask questions. The program timeline was clear and the website was easy to navigate. I also created my portfolio through ABI, which is something I have never done before, and thus grateful for the guidance.

Pros
  • Build or polish your resume and portfolio
  • Supportive coaches
  • Being matched with an agency
Cons
  • Can have a lot of down time in between projects during remote internships

Gateway to the creative world! Great opportunity!

I found ABI through an online career fair that my school was hosting for students and was really excited by the opportunities they offered. I chose to do my internship locally, opting for a remote experience because of the pandemic. The two months of coaching through ABI's online modules prepared me about the soft skills that I needed to develop for the workplace, envision my career goals, and actively create steps to achieve them. The coaches and mentors that worked with me helped me navigate the career path I wanted and build my portfolio to a professional competitive level. The result was a portfolio which was so much better than the one I created at school. Through ABI's connections, I managed to get responses from different organizations and brands that were interested in me. I managed to land a remote internship at an agency that works for international brands. The internship was challenging, eye opening, and fun, with my mentor supervising my internship journey through my journal as well as regularly checking up with me and giving me an assessment. While working professionally, I had the opportunity to expand my skills, test my creativity, make mistakes, learn from them and rectifying them. I'm really proud of the designs and work I made by myself and in collaboration with my coworkers. The resources and support I received from ABI were BETTER than the ones that were provided to me by my school. Many thanks to Lauren, Sasha, Laura, Ginda, & Zulfa!

Pros
  • Great coaches and mentors that provide resources & support.
  • Great connections with great career opportunities.
  • My portfolio & resume is more professional in experience and content.
Cons
  • A bit pricey depending on your destination.
  • You have a certain amount of time to complete the courses.
