Summer to Never Forget

It was an amazing summer and program. It was a great time and the placement was fantastic. Housing was amazing and the cultural activities were unforgettable. I remember being greeted by the program advisors, and they made the transition to a foreign country seamless. Furthermore, they helped us adapt to the country, feel comfortable with our placement, and navigate the city with a dominant foreign language. I had so much fun and met so many great friends who were also participating in the program.

Amazing Internship in Seoul

I was dreaming about going to South Korea for a while now, but it seemed very out of reach. I found about Absolute Internship at the abroad opportunities fair at my univeristy and i am extremely happy about it! They helped with EVERYTHING! They looked for the company and helped with CV preparation and interviews. They answered all the questions and replied in a timely manner. A huge plus was that they found a place to stay (modern apartament in central Seoul with just a perfect location!). Also the transportation cards were included, which was super helpful as well. There were trips and activities when you arrrive and there are people from Absolute the city making sure everything works fine for you, who you can easily reach out to for the support. The program gives you this feeling of independence, because you are there working on your own, at the same time there are other interns that you meet and do stuff together as well, which helps you create that feeling of belongingness. Why 4 not 5 stars? The internship is kinda pricey, if your university does not fully sponsor you. I know that it costs a lot to hire everyone to help with the process but still ;) Nevertheless it is worth it to try and go intern abroad!

Internship in Korea

I really loved my experience in Korea! Not only was I able to work for a wonderful company, but I was also able to grow both professionally and personally. The program offered many wonderful trips where we got to know everyone in the program and we also got the chance to explore Korea. I made wonderful friends while in Korea and I am very grateful that I got to go to a country I had longed to go to for a long time! I was able to learn about a different culture and I really loved it. I think that traveling to Korea made me realize how different a place can be.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would say that at first it is scary to go to a totally different country, however, the best moments and memories that you will remember are the ones you make while being there, so being afraid is good, but also having the courage to explore by yourself just a little bit can lead you to so many great things. You can explore many different places and experience many new things all you have to do is take a chance and have courage. I guarantee that you will grow both professionally and personally.

I Love Korea

The smooth process of finding an internship, the amazing location, amazing staff to lead us in the new setting, and literally everything in Korea. Providing us with transportation cards and calculating the costs to travel to work was a huge plus. The small programs that are a part as a package to explore broader parts of Seoul were also very beneficial and amazing opportunities. Having the safety of being in this program and also having the freedom to explore on our own was so much fun and was able to create so many core memories.

What was your funniest moment?
My friend running into the subway doors.
Pros
  • Learning about Korean culture.
  • Being able to improve in my Korean speaking skills.
  • Being able to meet so many new people and making new friends.
Cons
  • Difficulty in public transportation, at first.

Absolute Internship Seoul Experience

It was the combination of travel and professional development that made this internship so fulfilling. I was able to bond with my cohort through our amazing trips and the experiences I had interning with my company has allowed me to gain new skills across multiple fronts. Although I was not able to get the initial industry I wanted, I was still able to learn and develop professionally in my role at the company I was placed with, learning about cross cultural communication and strategic planning. We visited popular cultural and historical sites such as Jeonju and Seoraksan that demonstrated the depth and diversity of Korean culture. They had a team of on site coordinators dedicated to making the internship experience better throughout the time the students were there, providing support the entire way. All around an amazingly curated trip!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would most definitely challenge myself to become more comfortable with being uncomfortable way earlier in my trip. At first, I was nervous to explore Seoul on my own because I was afraid to go by myself when in reality the city is so traveler friendly that it almost felt unnecessary once I did it for the first time! Also I would definitely plan out where I wanted to visit much earlier so I could do everything I wanted.

An Amazingly Insightful Adventure

Visiting Seoul in June with Absolute Internship was my first experience on a university programme abroad. I was apprehensive at first as it was my first time going so far away by myself, but I must say it was well worth it. I made so many friends from all around the world, got to experience traditional work culture within a Korean company, and go on amazing trips outside of Seoul as well. As a Korean/French language student, it was good to see what prospects could await me once I have finished my degree. The workshops also helped me gain some valuable experience in improving my working portfolio on sites such as LinkedIn, so I feel ready to take on an international career should I choose to in the future. 10/10 would recommend!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I would say the first nerve-wracking moment would be actually going to work for the first time. I am very much a planning person, but not necessarily knowing what to expect threw me off a little. Those fears were completely overturned by an amazing host company; I was paired amazingly well and we were all able to bounce off each other and become very good friends!
Pros
  • Meeting amazing people from different walks of life
  • Experiencing both the traditional and modern side of South Korea
  • Beating the Mario Kart master once on our lunch break!
Cons
  • It was very far from home; those who get homesick easily need to brace themselves
  • Its not for shy people - you need to put yourself out there and help people make friends with you by being equally friendly
