What an eye-opening internship

I chose to do an internship in Japan for the sake of cultural differences and new experiences. I didn't know much about Japanese culture and language upon arrival but I was truly happy to learn more about this interesting country. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this city, by the many temples and sanctuaries hidden between two moderns buildings and by the quality of services.
I learnt a lot about myself and about what I want to do in life. I relished working in a marketing company and now consider taking a class at uni to learn more about it. This whole adventure would not have been possible without meiji internships. They advised me on many things because I wasn't sure what kind of internship I needed. I told them that I had plenty of time, but not too many skills. My goal was to learn new things & find my path through this internship. The girl with whom I spoke on skype was so kind and really helped me to find a good internship.

A very valuable experience

Meiji Internships is a good agency, I think I made the right choice embarking with them. My first impression during a Skype consulting was nice so I decided to keep going with them. They help their participants a lot, they offer different services depending on what you need (if you don't feel confident in finding your own apartment, they can find it for you for example), and are very responsive. The host company they found for me was a very good match. The CEO was young (I didn't ask, but around 30 I think) and was easy to talk with. He was always checking how I was doing and always repeating "If you need something, just ask ok?" haha he was really nice! I built up significant skills and knowledge in business development and also in Chinese which is very advantageous for my future career. As well as the business connections that I have made in Singapore!
What else can I say? Don't forget to have fun, an internship abroad is a fantastic opportunity for sightseeing and spending a good time traveling!

Growing up as a young professional and enjoying Vietnam

This is the main difference between going to school and doing an internship : taking on more responsibility and gaining skills quickly. At school, everything is very slow. You study, you try to do something by yourself, show it to your teacher, wait for the feedback... The teachers cannot be focused on each student 24 hours a day. However when you do an internship, you are alone or with only a few other interns and you can make progress much more quickly. Your team is giving you support right away and you are forced to make a lot of progress! It was really a good experience for me to have an entire team to support me and help me with my tasks. It was my first working experience and I would do it all over again!
It gave me the professional experience I needed all while spending a few months in a country that I was craving to discover. I enjoyed a lot looking for fun things to do in Vietnam and exploring this amazing country.

Tokyo

I have never been in Asia before and Meiji Internships made this first time unforgetable. Everything was so different from what I have always known at home. The language is, of course, different. But also the food, the fashion, or smaller things like the smells in the street, the tables at the restaurants etc. I am passionate about drawing and all these things inspired me a lot.
My internship was liberating. For the first time in my life, I felt free to be myself and to do something that I love all day long. I did this internship because I was a bit lost about my future career. It was definitely a good idea. At work they told me that I had potential in design and that I should give it a go. I did a lot of mistakes as well, but my manager said that it was okay to make mistakes as I was there to learn and they didn't expected me to be perfect. The most important point is to do better next time.
I became a better person, and a better designer thanks to meiji internships and my awesome host company!

Design and Japanese traditions

My internship in Kyoto was the perfect way to gain work experience while visiting Japan. I worked in a tourism agency in Kyoto, and had the time of my life. I chose Japan because I love Japanese traditions and the Japanese language, so this company was a great opportunity and a perfect match for me. I learned a lot about graphic design, but also about Japanese culture.
I organised my time so that I had time to visit as much as possible. I drank a lot of matcha, wore a kimono, went to Nara to see the Todaiji and the famous "shika", climbed on top of the Fushimi Inari Shrine... All things I have always dreamt about!
Doing an internship abroad is an incredible experience and I can say that it changed my life and my way of living. I feel more confident and free now. It made me realise that everything is possible, the first step might be difficult, but once it is done, everything becomes easier. You just need to believe in yourself!

My internship in Korea

I loved my placement and the work I had to do. I got to experience the working system of a culture completely different from my own. The Korean team of Meiji Internships was attentive and always here to help me when I had doubts. It was the first time for me to stay away from my family such a long time (3 months) and the team listened to me and adviced me many times. It was kind of like a second family. If you read this guys, I love you, thank you for taking care of me!

This experience helped me to gain self-confidence, work experience and an understanding of a beautiful culture. South Korea is an amazing country with amazing and kind people. Sightseeing in Seoul was a real pleasure, as well as going out at night with friends, and meeting with the team at work. I also gained some skills in Korean, without realizing it haha.

I had a marvellous time.

Working in Asia was something I wanted to try for a long time. I am glad that meiji internships helped me accomplishing this dream. I went there during the Chinese new year, which was an incredible experience. As I had some days off at this period, I had time for visiting the city and going for a short trip in the south of the country. I went to the countryside and met with a former exchange student who studied at my university two years ago. I had a really great time!

Regarding the internship itself, I worked with an employer who cared about me and wanted me to learn and to have a great work experience. I was really happy with my company, and if you plan on doing an internship too, I wish you all the best. Don’t be afraid, you will have the best experience of your life!

Saying bye bye to the kid I was!

I have three big brothers, and I was tired of being the young one, the one who needed his mother's help in everything he wanted to do. That's the reason why I wanted to go abroad. I needed to prove to myself and to my family that I wasn't a kid anymore and to build my confidence as a young adult. I created 3D animation content for a company based in Bangkok. I wasn't working alone on this, of course, because this is a lot of work and I have been studying 3D animation only for one year at that time. I gained a lot of knowledge in my field and I feel so confident about it now.
When I came back, I wasn't the same person anymore. For two months I lived on my own, I cooked my own food (Well, to be honest, I often ate outside because the street food is so cheap and yummy!), I had responsibilities at work I was able to adapt to a new environment. Meiji internship helped a lot, but still, I am proud of myself :) and I think that my mum is proud too!

An experience that opened my eyes.

I came back home last week, and I thought "Wait, why is everything so different from before?" and then I realized that my home hasn't changed. I was the one who was different. My perception is not the same as it was before this internship. When you do an internship in a country that is so different from yours, you experience and observe new things everydays. I think that I learned to observe more and to be aware of what is around me.
I have to say thank you to the Meiji Internships team. They helped me in many ways. I am so glad that I stepped outside of my comfort zone and embarked on this adventure.

Internship in Taiwan - 2 months

My placement was wonderful. I worked at an advertising company, with the marketing team. I was able to develop many professional skills in B2B marketing but also in B2C. I also learned a lot about teamwork, which was not something natural for me in the first place. I realized how important it is in a company!

It was my first experience in a Sharehouse, besides my family, I have never lived with somebody else. I was always afraid to live with other people and not to getting along together, but for this 2 months internship, I thought that I could give it a try. It was a good experience in the end and I am happy I did it! Everybody was really nice and didn't make any trouble.

I was able to take some weekend trips outside Taipei and I spent all my free time sightseeing in the city. Taiwan is a really beautiful Country, with amazing spots and nice people. Probably the best Trip of my life.
