Great Time in London

I really enjoyed my 10-week internship program in London. I appreciate that TIG checked in on me periodically to make sure I was ok. They regularly sent updates of things going on and things to do in London. Their staff responded promptly whenever I contacted them (before and during my internship). I also liked the three events that were offered as part of my program.

The internship itself ultimately went well, though I wasn’t happy with it at first. I expected more structure and mentoring. I think those things would’ve made this a more effective internship. The people at the company were great; it’s just that the way things were done was a bit chaotic. However, I still gained so much from the experience. I was pushed out of my comfort zone (for the better), tried new things, and was able to make a difference at the company. My experience made me more confident and capable, and it helped me get a job in a new career field.

The professional and internship preparation resources offered by TIG were helpful and interesting. However, I was disappointed that they did not follow through on the alumni success coaching session as promised after my internship.

Overall, I had a wonderful time in London. I did pretty much everything I wanted to do, and my time there helped me grow personally and professionally. I’m so late with this since my internship was from the end of November 2023 to the beginning of February 2024, but thank you for everything, TIG!

Amazing Experience!

The Intern Group program was an amazing experience! I was in Madrid, Spain for 8 weeks and I learned so much about the culture and the language. I have always wanted to go to Spain, and I’m so glad i found this program. They provided a remote internship to me so I was able to travel around Spain and other parts of Europe. The people within the program were so friendly and so fun. I met so many new friends. This was an experience I will never forget and would love to do again. I highly recommend The Intern Group!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
When in Valencia, I ate “Conejo” which is Rabbit, in my Paella.

Tokyo Intern Review

I loved interning with TIG in Tokyo!! There were so many opportunities to meet new people and interns and experience new cultures, places, and food. Help was always there when I needed it and they made sure that everything was going well with my company as well, and even work ended up being a really fun experience! I loved exploring over the weekend trying new foods and going to parks/temples and other unique exhibitions that are only in Tokyo. Overall I would definitely recommend it!!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would definitely plan better spending wise and exploring wise! there are so many cities and places to experience and shop around tokyo and its really easy to spend multiple weeks exploring just one or two, so I would definitely have wanted to plan to go to more places and see the sights!!
Pros
  • Cheap food
  • Easy transportation
  • Excusions / Meet ups with Interns
Cons
  • Lots of walking in the heat!
  • accommodation may be small

Loved it

I loved my time in Madrid, the activities put on by Nikte were really fun and the city is beautiful. The group was really nice and everyone was very friendly and fun, I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone who is thinking about an internship abroad! Also the actual internship was a great learning experience I learnt much and feel like I am a lot more prepped for the next stage in my career now. I found that most of the others on the group were of the mindset as me and this made bonding and activities very easy and fun

Pros
  • Friendship
  • Fun
  • Learning
Cons
  • Room wasn’t ideal
  • Heat especially in later June was tough
Response from The Intern Group

Wonderful experience

Full immersion in this beautiful country, Colombia, where I grew professional and also I succeeded to improve my education skills. Not only, the Interngroup helped me when I needed it. Everyday has been different from each other, and I never felt alone. Indeed, since I'm having an exciting time, I found a little job and I extend my accommodation here in Medellín. I'm glad that I chose the Interngroup to have this incredible experience and I highly recommend this experience to everyone, expecially here in Colombia.

Pros
  • Enhance CV
  • Improving own skills
  • Cultural immersion
Cons
  • The cost of the program
Response from The Intern Group

TIG in Dublin

I did this kinda late, but my internship was in the fall of 2023. I absolutely loved my experience in Dublin! My coordinators, Rachel and Lauren were so supportive and easy to get in touch with, they made multiple amazing trips for the group and were overall very kind to me. My placement itself could have been a better fit, but the city made up for that. I loved Dublin so much and will be going back any chance I get. I would definitely recommend this opportunity to anyone looking for an enriching experience in a beautiful country.

Pros
  • Amazing coordinators
  • Dublin is so safe
  • Lovely people all over
Cons
  • Accommodations could be better
  • Placement fit could have been better
Response from The Intern Group

Chloe Hayes

The intern group was very supportive during my time in Tokyo. Special shoutout to Erika, she was always so helpful and enthusiastic about things and very much made the experience easier to adjust to throughout. It was so much fun to find like minded people experiencing similar things and bond through the unfamiliar, while getting to experience a fascinating new pace of life. My placement introduced me to some wonderful mentors who were great with feedback and guidance, while treating me like family.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Flying squid sushi
Pros
  • Strengthened independence
  • Cultural immersion
  • Resume additions
Response from The Intern Group

Definitely worth doing

It was such a once in a lifetime experience because of the people you meet and share it with. I think what made my internship worth while was the people I was placed with. I have made real friendships with the people I was with. The actual internship was a strange experience as my boss wasn’t entirely helpful while I was there. She sort of just left me to my own devices most days. But as i was the first intern to be placed with her, i can’t blame the intern group for that. Honestly if it was a little cheaper I would definitely do it again.

What was your funniest moment?
Most of the moments with my flat mates
Pros
  • Meet new people
  • Live in a different country
Cons
  • Homesickness
  • Living with other people who don’t have the same lifestyle

My personal point of view

In the beginning, it was challenging to get used to my different customs, especially in the working environment and relationships with colleagues, which put me outside my comfort zone. However, this experience changed my life, helping me overcome my insecurities and gain confidence. It gave me the chance to have a clear idea of who I want to be in the future and understand which will be the next step to achieving success. I would suggest anyone looking for motivation and change apply for an interview with the provider and be open to what the experience brings to you.

Response from The Intern Group

Thank you for sharing your experience in Dublin, Giorgia! We're glad it could be a great opportunity for you to grow your skills and gain confidence. We're looking forward to seeing what's next for you in your career!

Had the best overseas internship experience of my life!

Choosing the Location
Applied in Jan 2024 to The Intern Group's 6-week Tokyo program that began in April 2024. Initially took a week to decide which location I would go to but after that, the decision making process was done quite fast including deciding to withdraw my interest for the first job offer hoping that, the next offer would better suit what I would like to learn. I would say, go for a bigger company if you are undecided and would like to enjoy perks that could include free snacks, more clubbing, more drinking sessions etc. Choose a small company (less than 5) if you are certain on what skill set to learn and can see yourself implementing your ideas at, independently.

While in Tokyo
Erika has been my main go-to coordinator and she has done a superb job at organising weekly meetups, checking in on us via text or having one-on-one dates and being the best guide around Tokyo! Many occasions, she'd be the link between us interns and the locals and I truly find her a lifesaver. Wouldn't have been able to order my favourite orange juice without her! I hope future interns will get to meet someone like Erika when they are miles away from home.

Wrapping Up and Future Plans
I wish I could stay in Tokyo for longer. It is my last week here and I am wrapping up my project and applying to full time roles in Japan and back home. I will remember the connections that I've made and the skills I've gained which will continue to shape my career.

Pros
  • Safety
  • Affordable food options
  • Meeting people from different backgrounds
Cons
  • Non-paid however, you may get to claim food/transport depending on company.
  • People don't mind waiting in line for hours for food but you know the food will be worth the wait.
Response from The Intern Group

Thanks so much for sharing about your experience in Tokyo. We are glad to hear that our Experience Coordinator, Erica, has been such a supporting figure on your journey!
