My amazing time with IVHQ

This experience as a whole was definitely unique for me. Staying with a host family and being with all brand-new people was very intimidating at first, but everybody around me made me feel supported and comfortable at all times. There was never a time when I felt lonely or sad. Everyone supported me with smiles and gave me the best advice. I have never had the privilege of working with more ambitious and passionate people. It was truly an experience to remember. I was constantly being out of my comfort zone and was able to thrive in it. I met so many people from all over the world who I’ll be able to talk to forever. I saw so many amazing animals and plants, and met the most amazing people on the way who are able to immerse me in the culture.

  • Being able to see the beautiful surrounding nature

Well organized

From the moment I contacted IVHQ until the completion of volunteer trip I was well prepared. IVHQ provided all the information and planning needed from pre to post trip. I will travel with them in the future. It is important to read all the information provided in the description of each destination and the smallest details are helpful. Local teams were always available and made contact each day to make sure participant was comfortable with their placement. IVHQ was truly interested in following up after the trip for feedback.

IVHQ Tanzania

I had the most amazing time volunteering in Tanzania with IVHQ. It was a life changing experience that I will be forever grateful for. Working with alongside locals in the daycare that I volunteered at was a truly amazing experience. It’s an exchange of mutual gain in which everyone learns from each other which was very inspiring and insightful.

Volunteering through an organisation like IVHQ made the process much less daunting as there is a program guide which assisted me with each step of the process, as well as support from the local team and coordinators. I will definitely be back again in the future!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Choose IVHQ!

Where do I even begin? From the very start the programme coordinator at IVHQ ensured all my questions were answered, and everything was in perfect order for my volunteering. Once at my placement, the local team was incredibly helpful and supportive, ensuring I had everything I needed- from helping me understand how to commute to my work place, where the supermarket was, and even more technical aspects like where to buy SIM cards…. Overall, my two experiences at IVHQ allowed me to grow an asset of skills, and with their wide array of countries to volunteer at, I’m sure everyone will find what they desire! I definitely would recommend them and I’m already planning my next volunteering too!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t second guess it and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Try new things, and overall enjoy your experience as best as you can!
Pros
  • Supportive local team
  • Easy to understand IVHQ website
  • Large number of choices

Brilliant experience

Affordable brilliant experience. Well supported by coordinator before we left. This was trip of a lifetime for my 16yr old son. He made friends from all over the world and learn new skills. After the first week he was able to show new volunteers the ropes. Plenty of free time and fun trips set up by the program. Food and accommodations nice - there was a pool! I would def recommend this organization to anyone and will be looking for a similar trip (with same organization) when my younger son finishes his GCSES.

So happy with my choice

Ever since I graduated, I’ve always wanted to volunteer and was very torn while choosing the best organisation, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. IVHQ was a very pleasant surprise, their support, helpful tips, fast communication, and the local organisations they partner with made everything perfect. The local team was so welcoming, I felt like home since day one, the whole experience was much more fun and rich than I had ever expected it to be. I will definitely be joining IVHQ for other volunteering experiences. Thank you so much.

Imisi’s trip to Sri Lanka

My Local team was absolutely amazing from the airport pickup, which was done in a very timely and organised manner in a very comfortable ca,r which had an A\C which was very helpful given Sri Lanka is sooo hot to my very last day there. They took really good care of us and helped arrange so many fun activities, such as visiting temples and gardens and allowing us to take part in local cultural activities as well as help organise our actual volunteer activities. I had so much fun and the food was great as well as the other volunteers. I had so much fun and hope to go back one day.

Very Well-Organized, Meaningful Experience

IVHQ provides a checklist of everything you need to get done before your trip, which was very helpful and relieved a lot of stress as someone travelling abroad for the first time. The volunteer opportunities make a meaningful impact and allow participants to be immersed in the community. It was a great opportunity to work on improving my Spanish, so I would highly recommend this program to people looking to improve their second language. Many of the cities that you can volunteer in with IVHQ are not tourist cities, allowing for a more authentic cultural experience and more opportunities to speak another language with native speakers.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I cut up a boiled cow stomach
Pros
  • Organized
  • Great way to work on learning a language
  • Meaningful impact

Why I feel safe Volunteering with IVHQ

Volunteering with International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) was one of the most amazing and life-changing experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I signed up, I felt supported and informed every step of the way. As a first-time traveler, I was nervous about being in a completely new environment, but IVHQ made the entire process feel manageable and exciting. Their structured guidance, helpful pre-departure resources, and responsive communication gave me the confidence I needed to take that first big step out of my comfort zone.

Upon arriving at my volunteer destination, I was warmly welcomed by the local team, who played a huge part in making my experience unforgettable. They were incredibly organized, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Whether I had questions about my placement, needed help navigating the local area, or simply wanted to learn more about the culture, they were always available and eager to assist. Their support made me feel safe, prepared, and more connected to the community than I ever expected. Having that strong, local presence made all the difference in helping me settle in and feel at home in a completely new country.

The volunteer work itself was meaningful and fulfilling. I felt like I was truly making a difference, even in small ways. My days were filled with purpose, whether I was helping with local education initiatives, supporting environmental conservation efforts, or assisting in community outreach. The work was hands-on, impactful, and allowed for genuine connection with the local people. It was inspiring to see how much can be achieved through collaboration and kindness, and I left every day feeling proud of what we were able to accomplish together.

One of the best parts of volunteering with IVHQ was meeting other like-minded volunteers from all over the world. The friendships I made along the way added so much joy and meaning to the experience. Sharing meals, exploring the local area on the weekends, and working side by side with people who shared similar values made the journey even more memorable. There was a real sense of community and unity among us, despite coming from different backgrounds and cultures.

For anyone considering volunteering abroad—especially first-time travelers—I cannot recommend IVHQ enough. They provide the perfect balance of structure and freedom, offering safe and impactful programs while still allowing you to explore and learn independently. Their commitment to ethical volunteering, cultural immersion, and long-term impact is clear in everything they do.

This experience taught me so much more than I expected. It gave me new perspectives, lifelong friendships, and a deeper appreciation for global communities and their unique challenges and strengths. Most of all, it showed me the power of stepping outside your comfort zone and opening your heart to new people, places, and possibilities. Volunteering with IVHQ was truly amazing, and I would encourage anyone, especially those traveling solo or for the first time, to take that leap—you won’t regret it.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I did this again, I would have stayed longer than 1 week. I spent my time Volunteering in Guatemala which has so many beautiful places to see. I feel like I could have made more out of my experience if I had spent more time in Antigua.

South Africa

South Africa was such a great mix of volunteering along with being able to try different volunteering options. It was filled with the best local team. They always asked if we need anything and would always provide support and guidance on any issue. The kitchen staff was amazing and always accommodating everyone needs and making sure everyone was fed and happy. The school was beyond grateful to have my presence and treated me so kindly. Walking during the day was so safe and people were very kind.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-racking moment was bungee jumping. We went to the highest bridge in Africa and jumped off it. The best part was all the volunteers were so supportive and up lifting.
