Good job Meiji!

I really appreciated my time at Meiji Academy, so here is my feedback: They use different materials for the classes, so that's great. I am a visual person, so my teacher adapted to me and used visual ways to teach me. I was thankful for that. I could feel that they don't just do their job and go back home, but they really care about you and try to know your personality and thoughts in order to teach you better.
We had some activities in the evenings and weekends, it was a good way to make friends and create a good atmosphere within the Meiji Family ^^ There were Japanese volunteers to help with the activities so we could make Japanese friends as well. I particularly loved the takoyaki party and the yakisoba party at the school, we could eat while playing Japanese games, it was so fun! Actually, I don't have anything negative to say about this program. They did a good job!

My second home!

I thought I would only be studying Japanese, but I learned so much more during this month at Meiji. I highly recommend this traditional culture package! Meiji organized so many cool events, as the tea ceremony, where we could wear kimonos! The ikebana lesson was also a very good memory. I had stereotypes of flowers being for girls before haha, but I admit that I had a very good time making my own piece of art! It was relaxing and the result was beautiful.
The teachers at Meiji are sugoii lol, I was surprised that one of them could even speak French! Meiji staff is nice too, and everyone was part of an open-minded community. No judgment on everyone's Japanese level, or nationality or anything else, and very interesting talks about different subjects. It was funny because the conversations switched between Japanese, English, sometimes some few words in French or even German... loved it!

I PASSED

The school has a great reputation for a reason. During the time I spent there my skills have improved more than all my previous educational efforts combined.
The staff is purely awesome, the lessons are delivered in a structures, dynamic and fun way. Depending on your level, exercises and classes are structures around either vocabularies, conversation or grammar. It could even be Kanji or Keigo if that’s what you would wanna focus on. My course focused on helping me prepare for the JLPT 4. While I spent most of my day at school, I was never bored or disengaged. The classes and teachers helped me get comfortable with Japanese which eventually helped me pass the JLPT! Don’t mean to brag, but I am minoring in Japanese at uni and most of my classmates who took the test failed. Good thing I attended Meiji!
The school is centrally located, which means everything is at hand - from good places for a lunch break, to touristy places, to your quick-bite 7-eleven.
When I finished my course, I already knew it would be a “see ya“ instead of a farewell.

See you soon!

I could not have dreamt of a better experience. It was my first time traveling alone so I was a bit worried, but Meiji's service was really safe and I appreciated the airport pick-up and all the little attentions they had. I'm not that good at studying, but this time I felt that every lesson was appealing and it was easy to concentrate (I was often the only student with the teacher or in small groups). I loved the teachers, they were so open-minded and fun! It was really a pleasure to study at this school. Now I am still able to communicate with some of the Japanese friends I made there, all in Japanese. This is so satisfying!!
I'm so sad I had to come back to my country, it was like waking up from a wonderful dream! Love Japan and Meiji Academy!!

Home sweet home ^^

Meiji Academy is a family! I spent 1 month with them and already miss everyone like craaaazy. If you ever wanna do a language course, Meiji should definitely be your first choice. Fukuoka is a beautiful modern city with tons of culture. I absolutely recommend checking out all the shrines and Canal City. You can even walk everywhere! You will not only have the cool opportunity to learn Japanese with fantastic teachers, but also explore my favourite city in Japan. I had the best experience and improved my Japanese speaking and writing skills a lot. Probably my english skills as well because I often talked to my new friends in English. The friends you will make and the staff are awesome.
You will not regret going! Even after “just“ a month, Fukuoka and Meiji Academy felt like home!

Thank you Meiji!

I had the chance to study in Japan for one semester as an exchange student, but it wasn't enough for me. In Belgium, we cannot apply for the working holiday visa, so all I can do for now is to take classes and try to open new gates. I joined Meiji Academy's Business course to improve my Japanese Keigo skills and to learn how to behave in front of Japanese employers! It was a great experience, different from the one I had during my exchange semester. I used to only care for the pop culture, but now I know a bit more about the business culture in Japan. And I still find it fascinating! Fukuoka is a joyful city, with nice parks (Ohori park, you MUST go there!) and Meiji always organizes lots of funny events. It was a pleasure for me to meet new people while practicing my Japanese! I hope I can go to Japan again in the future because I'm never disappointed with my experiences. I guess the next step is to take the JLPT test to be able to find a job there!

Studying for the JLPT test

What better way to study for the JLPT test than going to Japan ? I planned on having the test this December (N3) after studying at Meiji for 3 weeks and... that's what I did ! I'm still waiting for the results but, Sensei, I think you can be proud of me !
My experience at Meiji was for the best, the classes are well organized with some group classes and some private classes. The teachers are talented and fun ! I loved the language exchanges, it was the occasion to train and use what I learned during the classes, and also make friends ! I studied Japanese in France for almost 2 years already, but those 3 weeks in Fukuoka helped me getting confidence and finally using my knowledge in actual situations. It was the first time for me to travel to Asia, this is why I let them organize the accommodation and all this stuff. They did the job perfectly by the way. So yes, I recommend Meiji Academy if you want a real immersion. And I am not a fan of big cities, but Fukuoka was really welcoming!
Merci Meiji !!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The silence in the subway... I knew it before but I didn't realized Japanese were so quiet in public transportation !!

My experience with Meiji

I promised that I would leave some comments about my experience, I'm sorry it took so much time, but here I am!
I've been studying with Meiji Academy for 5 weeks this summer. I had already some notions in Japanese, but I wanted to improve my skills before starting my new job (which is related to Japan). I have to say that those 5 weeks paid off! I did not only got confidence in Japanese but also could meet with really nice people, that I believe I might meet again in the future... who knows!
The business workshop was also a good point and helped me get into the right mood before starting the classes. There were lots of good advice and funny tips. Basically everything went well with Meiji Academy, and if I had to, I would do it all over again!

So much fun!

I will always remember the maid cafe haha! Of course, I will also remember the game center, calligraphy, etc, but we all had so much fun at the maid cafe!! It would have been different if it hadn’t been with the amazing friends I made at Meiji. I loved the sharehouse and all the activities because I could meet a lot of open-minded people and make Japanese and non-Japanese friends. Plus, I improved my Japanese skills so much, I'm really happy :) I can guarantee that at Meiji you will learn Japanese while having fun, and I think that's the most important for a language school, right? I will surely continue to work on my Japanese because I'm not done with this country yet. I would like to come back someday and try a different place. Those 4 weeks motivated me to keep going!!

A great experience!

I loved my time at Meiji Academy! It was my third time in Japan so I'm starting to get used to it. Before, I went to Kansai area, and Hokkaido as well, but I have to admit that Fukuoka was a completely different experience, because I took Japanese classes for the first time there. Until then I used to learn the language on my own and talk to Japanese friends online, but it was hard to find a structure and I tended to procrastinate. But after only 4 weeks of classes (I had group classes and private classes), I learned much more than in months alone! The teachers are nice and friendly and they adapt to everyone, that's really cool. My only regret is that I came with only one suitcase, and I couldn't bring back all my stuff, that was a real fail from my side... but I will go back to Fukuoka in the future, for sure!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Please don't forget that you will buy a lot of things and you will have to bring everything back to your country after!!
