My first time in Japan

Japan is a wonderful country and I finally visited it! I was a complete beginner in Japanese when I arrived and now I can handle a basic conversation. Studying there was very productive and fun at the same time. We used a textbook called Genki and audio clips as well. We had opportunities to talk with Japanese students during some events and language exchanges, it was very useful for practicing with different people. We also tried to speak Japanese with the other students at the school, even if the conversations were limited lol. The business classes were interesting, too. I understand better the business system in Japan now.
After my stay in Fukuoka, I went to Tokyo because you cannot come to Japan without visiting Tokyo. But I think I preferred Fukuoka!

A three-weeks course at Meiji Academy

I've always wanted to learn Japanese properly! I went to Japan for the first time 2 years ago with my parents, but this time I wanted to go there alone and take Japanese classes. I like Japanese pop-culture, which is so different from the US' culture! Meiji Academy was a very good school and I'm happy that I trusted them. I chose a private apartment because I don't really like to share common rooms with other people. The apartment was comfy and well located. It was a bit small, but from what I've read on some blogs, it's always small in Japan. Well, it was not a problem for me, as long as I have access to the internet and all the necessary stuff, I'm happy! My parents wanted me to choose the sharehouse in order to meet people and make friends, but I made friends even without living in the sharehouse! We had classes together, and the school often set up activities where we could get to know each other.

My rewarding time at Meiji

I studied at Meiji Academy for 3 weeks. Let me share some comments with you:
- It's easy to communicate with the school staff at any time, and they are very friendly.
- The classes were focused on our personal needs, for me, it was mostly oral comprehension.
- The teachers are really really nice and it was not the same teachers every day, so it was cool to get different working approaches.
- There were often events organized at the school, like the takoyaki party, where we could have fun with everyone and eat Japanese food.
- The language exchanges were a very good opportunity to practice and make new friends.
- I went there in winter, so it was a bit cold, but the kotatsu at the sharehouse was awesome!
- Fukuoka is a nice city and lots of nature spots around and many activities to do.
So I had a great time at Meiji Academy and I feel ready to take the JLPT test!

Studying at Meiji Academy was a breath of fresh air!

I've always wanted to travel and discover the Japanese culture, and Meiji was a perfect choice! We had some cool activities and classes like calligraphy, tea ceremony, etc... Kanjis are so beautiful and interesting, I love learning about the history behind them and all their deep meanings.
When I arrived, everyone already knew each other but they welcomed me right away, all the students were so lovely! Meiji organized some activities for us and we had a fantastic time together.
Regarding the sharehouse, I was really curious about it before arriving so here is my feedback: there were 4 people with me, and everyone was doing cleaning regularly. The place was quite spacious and contained everything I needed like a microwave, a washing machine, etc... Basically everything was okay and if we had something to ask about, the guy in charge was living with us and was really nice!

Summer of my life!

久しぶりです!It's been a while Meiji!
My last summer was so perfect, I'm often thinking about it. I miss Fukuoka so much! I had a lot of fun and it was a real kick-starter for my Japanese skills. I don't want to lose the incredible knowledge I gained while studying with Meiji so I'm still studying hard now. It was the right balance between Japanese classes and activities like language exchanges, bbq on the beach, etc. My stay was enjoyable, and staying at the sharehouse with the others was fun as well. The house was comfortable and clean. The air conditioner was also a valuable asset lol!!
I could experience life in a community, and being so far from home helped us getting closer I think. As the school was always organizing all kinds of activities it was easy to get to know each other.
ありがとう~!

A great understanding of Japan

Studying at Meiji was fun, everyone was nice and seemed happy to meet me. I was quite busy with all the classes and activities, with just enough time to rest and do some things by myself. I wish my best friend could have come with me, but unfortunately, she couldn't. Anyway, I met many people there, so I had a lot of fun! It was not my first contact with the Japanese language, I had a kind of basis before, but it was nothing compared to everything I learned at this school. I recommend Meiji to everyone who wants to discover a more authentic experience than just having the famous Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka tour. Fukuoka is drastically different, with not so many foreigners and more opportunities. Traveling is about visiting new places, but I think it's also about learning the culture and the language of the country. In my opinion, going to a language school is the best way to travel!

Winter vibes in Fukuoka

It was my first time traveling to Japan in winter, and Fukuoka was really charming. I was surprised because the weather was still quite warm (I mean, compared to Germany!). The classes were very interesting, as well as the activities! There are so many things to do and places to go in Japan at this period. The Fukuoka Christmas Market was a nice place to go after the classes, with the other students. I found a bit of German spirit there, and it takes literally 3 minutes to go there from school.
But my favorite activity to do in Japan when it's getting cold outside: onsen!! With the friends I made at Meiji, we even went on a weekend trip to Oita (it's famous for the onsen villages) and it was one of the best weekends of my life!
I spent a month at Meiji, and I loved it!

A valuable time

I challenged myself to study for the JLPT test on my own in the past but it wasn't a good idea... this is why I decided to take classes in a language school. And omg I should have done this from the beginning! The teachers have a special notebook for every student so that they can focus on everyone, I thought it was a very good way to keep an eye on each students' progress. Speaking of them, I loved my teachers! They had a good sense of humor (which is important to me), they were very friendly and had a strong will to make us succeed! Besides this, the whole program was totally safe. The airport pick up, the sharehouse, all the practical information they gave me... Thumb up!

Taking classes at Meiji Academy

Studying at Meiji Academy was fun and I would do it all over again without hesitation! I was always looking forward to my next class to learn more and more about this beautiful language. The teachers were really competent and listened to each of our questions, so it was easy to assimilate the new grammar rules and vocabulary! Plus, they used magazines, auto records and so on, and we just had to go out to find an opportunity to use our newly studied grammar forms. We never had time to get bored as the staff was regularly organizing fun activities outside. It was a very good experience and I'm lucky to have found such a good language school!

Mastering Japanese under the sun🌴

I have to say that I wasn't expecting that! My Japanese improved tremendously. I've taken some classes in London, and at that time I found it so difficult! But the study environment at Meiji Academy and their methodology surprised me in a good way. I could understand everything and as the classes are very small (we were never more than 4 students in the same class), the teachers could focus on everybody.

I have compared with other Language schools before applying and there were several reasons why I chose Meiji.
1. Their correspondence by email is always quick, friendly and informative.
2. Their support was outstanding from the time I applied to the day I graduated.
3. I read and heard positive feedback from other reviews and friends who have studied here in the past.
4. Their packages are fully customisable.

If you are looking for improving your Japanese skills while having fun and discovering the beautiful nature spots in Kyushu... then Meiji is your choice!
