Too high expectations

I did 3 months internship in software development as a recent graduate (not a student anymore). I got myself the cheapest package (which is already expensive if you are not from a rich family) but you can get some entrance discount and also there was a discount if you pay the deposit within 24 hours after being accepted (I needed to ask for the discount, they didn't give it automatically).

AIP found a company that exactly matched my requirements. A small company (around 10 people) near the center of Bangkok. The interview was very easy, and both sides accepted each other right away.

After paying the final price, I got all the necessary documents for the visa - this was quite complicated as different people from AIP said different information about applying for the visa. I had plenty of time, and I successfully got my internship visa for 90 days in 3 weeks.

Everyone in AIP was very nice and helpful, but sometimes it took them too long to reply - or I had to send more messages/emails to get the answers. During my time there, we had a WhatsApp group, and they helped me with many things, even not related to the internship.

If you go through everything on their webpage or social media, you might get too high expectations and be prepared that you might end up as disappointed as me. All the hype - that you will find their friends, contacts, and companies might offer you to stay working full-time -> you will need to be very lucky to achieve that. Especially in programming branches. I've found out that it is very common for programmers who are very quiet, introverted, and normally don't talk at work place together. In the office where I did the internship, people usually didn't say "hi" when entering. They just walked in, changed shoes, sat at the desk with a computer, and worked until lunchtime. During lunchtime, most of them were playing on their phones, and they didn't discuss something about their not-work-related activities or anything. After lunch, again, just quietly work till the end of the work day - actually usually even longer. Of course, they were helpful if I asked for help. Someone always helped me and explained the possible solutions to my problem.
I gained some work experience but not friends or some nice memories (related to work place and my colleagues).
After a week of coming back home, I felt like nothing like that ever happened.

But to rate AIP - they did a good job, they also tried to encourage me when I was feeling too lonely, they bought me a cake for my birthday and we went for karaoke together. Without them, I won't be able to find a good company and get a visa. But I will take one star off the rating for setting my expectations too high (ending up so disappointed), the chaos about visas, and forgetting to respond to my messages from time to time.

Pros
  • Help with getting visa
  • Finding suitable position
  • Help to get use to the city
Cons
  • Setting high expectations

AIP winter intership in Taiwan

Super grateful to have an opportunity to embark on a 5-week internship with AIP, would like to thank AIP for their high efficiency and for helping us to make this internship possible.

Would highly recommend students to give an overseas internship with the help of AIP! Managed to learn things that I did not have a chance to pick up in Singapore and it was an extremely eye-opening experience for me. Also thankful to be able to immerse myself in the Taiwan culture fully and learn more about it, highly recommend

Hosted 1 hotpot dinner with other interns here in Taiwan and free airport drop off :) Had a great time and enjoyed it a lot. Was also fortunate to have a good intern company here in Taiwan. In addition, other interns in Taiwan were also tremendously fun to hang out with! Very happy with this experience overall! Thank you!

South Korea experience 10/10

My experience with AIP exceeded expectations. Everything ran smoothly, and they walked me through every step of the process, helping me secure a great internship that matched my goals. My main communication was with Kate, who was extremely supportive and efficient. When I had issues with my first accommodation, she quickly resolved it and arranged a new one that suited me perfectly. Communication was always quick and professional, and the team at AIP was kind, patient, and genuinely dedicated to helping me succeed.

Internship experience with AIP

The internship experience in Taiwan was extremely fulfilling and rewarding- AIP has provided us with great opportunities in terms of the selection and variety of companies for the internship. Even though the duration of the internship was relatively short (only 5 weeks), the learning was very efficient felt that I had learned a lot from the job. The colleagues were also very patient and friendly with us, and would not hesitate to guide us along or impart new knowledge to us. I have absolutely no regrets about joining this program.

This was an amazing experience

Amazing experience with AIP! The meet up with the other students interning in Taiwan made the experience that much better! I want to thank nisha, roro, herlyn and the other AIP staff that made my overseas internship so fun and fuss-free! They arranged everything making it such a smooth and fuss free experience for me. When I applied, it was during my exam period which was a stressful time for me. But in the end AIP took care of everything and I went straight to Taiwan after my exams. I only had to book air tickets! Thanks for the amazing experience.

Great experience

Very friendly and helpful staff. It was a great internship experience arranged by them. I learned a lot of things outside of my school curriculum which really helpful for my future work and I appreciate all the help and support given to me by them.

In this internship experience, I also met a bunch of new people and learned important communication and social skills that are transferrable to future internships or work.

Overall, I think this was a wonderful experience and I would recommend trying it out!

Secured a 1-month internship in Taiwan under the AIP programme. Staff was very friendly and helpful in referring suitable companies and preparing me for the trip. Remaining in contact with AIP staff was relatively easy and process was smooth. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Taiwan all thanks to AIP. I recommend this programme to anybody who is looking for extensive personal growth and a change of environment. There are ample opportunities to learn and travel depending on the place of your stay.
