Osaka

During my internship, I experienced a mix of appreciation and frustration. Going into it, I was really excited to gain hands-on experience and finally apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting. However, as time went on, I found myself feeling unhappy because I wasn’t given many opportunities to actively contribute. There were long periods where I didn’t have clear tasks or responsibilities, which made me feel underutilized and unsure of how much I was actually growing professionally. I expected a more structured experience with consistent assignments and clearer expectations, so it was difficult at times to stay motivated when there simply wasn’t much for me to do. I tried to stay proactive by offering help and suggesting ideas, but without the proper materials or direction, it was hard to fully engage in meaningful work.

Despite these challenges, the staff played a huge role in making the experience more positive overall. Everyone was very helpful, approachable, and supportive whenever I had questions. They were always willing to take the time to explain things, give guidance, and make sure I felt included in the environment. My supervisor, in particular, was kind and understanding, which made it easier to stay professional and patient even when I felt unproductive. Their positive attitude and willingness to help really stood out to me and showed me how important a good work environment is.

Outside of the internship itself, one of the most memorable parts of this experience was the opportunity to travel throughout Japan. Being able to explore different parts of the country made the overall experience much more meaningful and exciting. I had the chance to go skiing in Hokkaido, which was something completely new for me and honestly unforgettable. I also traveled to Okinawa, where I went snorkeling and got to experience a totally different side of Japan with its beaches and clear blue water. These trips allowed me to step outside of my routine, experience new environments, and appreciate the cultural diversity within the country.

Overall, even though my internship did not fully meet my expectations in terms of hands-on involvement, it still taught me valuable lessons about adaptability, patience, and maintaining a positive mindset in less-than-ideal situations. I learned that sometimes growth comes not just from doing tasks, but from observing, reflecting, and making the most out of every situation. Combined with the amazing travel experiences I had throughout Japan, this internship became a unique and memorable chapter that I will always look back on as both a learning experience and a personal adventure.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
For future students, I would strongly recommend taking the time to fully verify your internship before committing to it. Make sure the role is clearly defined, ask about the type of tasks you’ll be doing, and try to confirm that you’ll actually have meaningful, hands-on work. It’s important to ask questions upfront so you don’t end up in a situation where you feel underutilized or unsure of your purpose. At the same time, I think it’s really smart to have a backup plan in case your first internship doesn’t go as expected. Whether that’s having another opportunity lined up, working on personal projects, or finding ways to gain experience independently, having that safety net can make a huge difference in how you handle unexpected situations. Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the overall experience, especially if you’re abroad. Even if things aren’t perfect professionally, take advantage of where you are, explore new places, and make memories. In the end, the combination of personal growth, travel, and learning how to adapt is just as valuable as the internship itself.

Amazing experience!

My internship in Japan was such a great experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life! I got to spend 3 months there, and I had nothing to complain about. My accommodation was very nice, and all amenities were provided and restocked every week. The hotel was in a really good location, being a 5-minute walk from a station and a 20-minute walk from Dotonbori and Don Quixote. I had a lot of issues with money and family matters, and AIP was very helpful in placing me in my internship despite that. I never felt overworked during my internship, and I had plenty of time to explore Osaka and other parts of Japan. My coordinator, Airi, was so nice and helpful, as were Herlyn and Kate. I would definitely work with them again.

Reliable

I was very happy about the 24/7 support. It is real, on-site support. Even when I had traveled from Osaka to Tokyo, there were people available on site from AIP who were there to assist me if I told them I would be there. AIP in general was very willing to resolve any issues that arose and helping me through processes like insurance claims or finding medical assistance for an accident I had while abroad. I sprained my finger badly playing volleyball and they contacted the host hotel to schedule me an appointment in a specialty hospital to help with the language barrier.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
This program tends to be more individualized than traditional study abroad classes in that your internship is your own and will not have many other students working with you. Socially, it is a little more limited compared to taking classes abroad so do not expect to be able to see the other participants of the class all the time especially if they do not work with you.

Great experience

It really was a great experience, I got to work as an engineer in a professional environment alongside other interns and had a fulfilling three months in Osaka. AIP was very helpful thoughout the entire search, application, and work process! As for the city itself, Osaka is incredibly vibrant and the culture is a lot different from the US. I’d recommend working abroad to anybody as I found that it was an eye opening experience and I’d 100% do it again if given the opportunity to do so. Can’t recommend it enough!

Amazing Opprotunity

This was an amazing experience, I would definitely recommend this organization to anyone else. They were very helpful in organizing the internship and getting me situated in a new country. I never felt like I didn’t have a point of contact in this new country. The whole team constantly checked up on us to see how we were growing accustomed not only to our jobs but also the new country. The excursions were fun I would definitely recommend USJ and I travelled back to Osaka Castle many times after having gone with AIP. Anyone who wants to have fun and gain work experience should do this program.

Great experience

They booked us a hotel in a great area, which made the overall experience much more enjoyable, convenient, and comfortable. The location allowed easy access to transportation, restaurants, and different parts of the city, which we really appreciated. They were also able to successfully secure internships for all of us in the program, which was incredibly valuable and well organized. Throughout the experience, they made an effort to stay connected by messaging us occasionally to check in, answer any questions, and ensure everything was going smoothly. The staff was consistently kind, supportive, responsive, and genuinely cared about our well-being and overall experience, which made a big difference.

Life changing experience

My internship experience in Japan has been genuinely rewarding. Being based in Osaka made a huge difference—the accommodation was in a central location, which made it easy to explore the city and really feel connected to daily life here. Outside of work, the program also created some great shared experiences, like our welcome dinner and the trip to Universal, which helped everyone bond early on.

What stood out most to me was how consistent and supportive AIP (Asia Internship Program) was throughout the entire experience. They were always checking in, making sure we were comfortable, and quick to address any questions or concerns. That level of communication made the whole process feel smooth and well-organized.

Overall, it felt like a good balance of professional growth and cultural immersion, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to be part of it.

Smooth Reasuring process

The service is perfect, the whole process went smoothly from acquiring companies and getting feedbacks from the interviews and getting the position.

Throughout my internship, AIP provided constant support, organizing call for my feedback on how the company was treating me. Additionally, I was treated to a meal when I traveled to Tokyo, meeting fellow interns under AIP and got to interact with others.

Its very reasurring to know they have a local stuff to contact for support too should anything happens.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Being in Shibuya, it was scary to find which train I should take which the different platform it has and divided into 2 seperate segments although being the same station.
Pros
  • Constant support check ins
  • Able to provide feedback on my internship conpany
  • People to contact on ground for support
