Great Experience

The trip was well-organized, with every event planned to the minute. We always knew what was happening the next day. We consistently ate delicious food that catered to everyone’s needs/wants. There was a perfect mix of academics/clinic work and fun. Through this trip, we met so many inspiring and kind people. It was a very welcoming place with kindness everywhere. The activities, like zip lining and snorkeling, were a lot of fun and felt safe. There were a few creepy people in Caye Caulker, but it didn’t interfere with the fun.

Pros
  • Speak English
  • Kind people
  • Good food
Cons
  • Unsafe

Wish I could go back

Absolutely loved being in Belize for 10 days. I wish I never had to leave. San Ignacio was the best part and I wish we could’ve stayed the entire time. It was the best experience ever, and absolutely loved every person I met. Jaime and Justin were absolutely amazing and knew exactly what we needed and how to answer all of our questions. We had the best experiences providing speech therapy services to the country and miss every little client I had. This program gave me clinical opportunities I wouldn’t have had at my school

Bring your students to Belize!

This was our SLP department's first trip with Therapy Abroad and it exceeded our expectations. Cultural immersion + SLP assessments and screening and therapy sessions = life changing experiences for both faculty and students. Great support from Therapy Abroad staff during preparation and while in Belize. Learning opportunities at every turn! Students experience the importance of being flexible and find out what they can accomplish. So grateful for this professional and educational experience! We will be back! Thank you Belize for welcoming us so graciously. We loved our time with you.

Pros
  • Cultural immersion
  • Unique clinical experiences
  • Endless educational opportunities

UnBELIZEable Experience!

This was my first Therapy Abroad trip and it was amazing! Seriously, there are no words that can fully describe this experience. The Therapy Abroad staff were so organized and made sure everyone was taken care of. All of the adventures, transportation, and housing staff were equally incredible (the Hode’s staff in particular were our favorites)! We were fully immersed into the Belizean culture and they were so welcoming to all of us! 10/10 recommend the Therapy Abroad trip to Belize - you won’t regret it!

Pros
  • Amazing cultural immersion
  • So many adventures
  • Great clinical experiences

Wow Wow Wow

This is one of the greatest experiences I have ever, and will ever, had. The clients we served, the welcoming community, the super kind staff, and overall a fulfilling ten days. The trip was well organized and provided many resources for different aspects of the trip. I was able to experience clinic in settings that never would have been accessible to be back at home. Being able to provide aural rehabilitation and aid children throughout the country warmed my heart and I hope I warmed theirs as well. 10/10 would recommend to everyone!!

Best experience of my life!

This experience has taught me many life lessons! Belize is a beautiful place and therapy abroad provides an amazing opportunity for students to learn the culture of Belize and gain experiences that will stay with them forever. The TA staff was beyond supportive and everything was figured out for our group. We never had to worry about what was next! There was more than enough food for everyone and it was all DELICIOUS! This trip made me a better student clinician and person! I cannot recommend this experience enough!!

Pros
  • Food
  • Clinical experience
  • Cultural exposure

TCI Summer 2022

I had the opportunity to be a speech pathology supervisor for the trip to Grand Turk, and it was by far one of the most meaningful professional experiences of my career. The students did a fantastic job, and we were able to offer a wonderful camp to the local children and their families. The Therapy Abroad program was supportive from beginning to end, and we had plenty of opportunities to experience and explore the local culture while on the island as well. Participating in this trip has definitely made me a more well rounded therapist and clinical instructor. I would absolutely recommend that students participate in trips with therapy abroad. The exposure to new cultures and ability to provide therapy services in a setting that is so vastly different than a university based clinic or placement is an invaluable learning opportunity. I look forward to future opportunities to work with Therapy Abroad.

Pros
  • Strong support from Therapy abroad
  • Opportunities to expand clinical and cultural knowledge
  • Opportunities to explore new local cultures and destinations

TCI Trip 2022

I had the opportunity to travel to Grand Turk, TCI with therapy abroad and overall it was an amazing experience. The support from the staff, supervisors, and other students was great, given that we had limited resources to provide services. In addition, it was my first time collaborating with PT's, which was an awesome opportunity! The only thing I would recommend is to have enough beds for each person. It is uncomfortable to expect students to share a bed with people they do not know. Other than that, it was an amazing experience where I had hands-on experience, learned about new cultures, and created lasting relationships. I would love to go again in the future.

Pros
  • Hands-on experience
  • Meeting new people
Cons
  • Housing (sharing beds)
