Class feedback

My 12 year old daughter spent the last three weeks in That's Mandarin's Morning Camp and we have been pleased with her progress. She started off in the beginner course, and with the help of the patient teachers she was able to steadily advance each week. During class, the students work on speaking, writing and character recognition. After two weeks, her language skills have become proficient enough for her to comfortably pick up groceries at the wet market and taking a taxi on her own.

We had initially signed up for two weeks of camp but my daughter enjoyed the class so much and asked for another week. The staff at That's Mandarin was very accommodating with our needs and responsive when we reauested a more intensive, smaller class size for the last week.

We look forward to working with That's Mandarin's online learing and Homestay program in the future to continue the improvement of her Chinese.

4 weeks summer camp at That's Mandarin

This is my first time joining summer camp in Shanghai, throughout the four weeks of the summer camp program I've gained new experiences and knowledge. Furthermore, I've made new friends.

At That's Mandarin, every morning from 9:30 to 12:30 I'm scheduled for writing and speaking mandarin class.

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, the students and the teachers goes out to explore China's culture. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon, I participate in China's tradition cultural class for instance calligraphy, masks painting, paper-cutting...etc. Out of all the activities, in the market I bargain with the seller and managed to buy a lot of cheap vegetables. In addition to that, I was able to apply my bargaining skills while shopping around Shanghai.

at That's Mandarin for 2 weeks

I have been here at That's Mandarin for 2 weeks. It's my first time in a day camp in China, Shanghai. I learned a lot of things about Chinese culture and new Chinese chracters. The activities are held after lunch. We have 3 hours in learning Chinese. During Tuesday's and Thursday's we go out for field trips. I met a lot of friends from other countries, people came here to learn new language and that is Chinese.

Teachers here are very kind and funny, they are good at making the class a much more interesting lesson than the kind we have in schools. Most students here are from other countries, we are seperated from our levels.

I am in the advanced class, the words are hard but the more is better than learning basic stuffs. This is the Day Camp experience I ever had.

2 weeks Day Camp

We found the program to be very fun and interesting for my child. It provides an environment for him to speak Mandarin and build his confidence in speaking Mandarin. He also enjoyed the outdoor excursions which introduced the history and heritage of the Chinese culture. The teachers were very supportive and caring which makes it fun for the children to learn Chinese.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be great if the school could offer more advanced level programmes for the children from other parts of Asia who have the basic foundation of Mandarin.

hat's Mandarin Summer Camp for 2 weeks

My 2 girls, Vina and Vanessa Joined That's Mandarin Summer Camp for 2 weeks. I feel that they enjoy joining this camp, Everyday after camp, they told me about tings that happened in camp.

The teachers are very friendly. According to my children's opinion, the teachers taught quite well. They entertain the students to learn Chinese. The teachers make my girls realised that Chinese is not a boring lesson.

Overall, this camp had perform a good experience as they have their summer break. In this 2 weeks, they also visit many places in Shanghai. They had a great time here in Shanghai. Maybe next time, they can join this camp again in a longer period.

What would you improve about this program?
I often hear the students talk English with each other while in campus. That's Mandarin needs to handle this small problem in order to make the students to get used to speak Chinese.

"Huge victory for That’s Mandarin"

My kids loved this camp! We came from the US to give them some practical experience speaking Mandarin. In the States, they study it but rarely have the chance to use it. My younger son, who detests his Chinese classes in the US, said after his first day at That’s Mandarin Summer Camp “Mom, can we go back tomorrow?” Huge victory for That’s Mandarin – both kids are chattering away to everyone they meet and have stayed interested and enthusiastic for two weeks.

That's Mandarin Summer Camp

The teachers at That's Mandarin did a great job with a one-week camp for my kids. Not only did the teachers focused on language lessons, they also prepared practical and cultural activities for my children. Although both children hesitated going to camp initially but the end of the first day, they told me that they had a lot of fun. I saw immediate improvement in their confidence with speaking Chinese.

Karine

We live in France and in order to improve the Chinese level of my two kids (11 and 8 years old), I decided to bring them to the That's Mandarin Summer Camp. This was a good solution for us 3 because I could have one to one lessons while my kids have theirs.
Before joining the school they were very anxious for many reasons :
-they have never experienced any foreign school language,
-they only had some basic notions of Chinese and do not speak English. They wondered how teachers could communicate with them, and whether they could understand
-they thought Chinese teachers were strict, their teaching way severe and boring...
I had to convince them and make them feel comfortable.
But finally, our stay turned out to be an extremely positive experience. The teachers were extremely kind and patient, the lessons were adapted to my kids different levels. The teaching method was really performant, making children learning without boring at all.
The afternoon activities were good for their Chinese cultural knowledge and they had the opportunity to practice the language in a non formal environment.
After our three weeks stay, they made tremendous progress in their understanding and oral speaking. They enjoyed the stay and said they will come again next year !
As for me, I was really happy of the issue because I will not have to convince them again each year !!
