A smooth and professional experience

Travel and Teach Recruiting Inc has made the process of finding teaching positions for me and my girlfriend overseas a simple and painless experience. From the very beginning they made us feel as though finding us positions were their number one priority. They guaranteed us of the quality of positions and assured us that the school we would be working with met their standards of professionalism. This is definitely been the case. We have loved every second of our experience and we could not have done it without the help and guidance of the wonderful recruiter Shane from Travel and Teach Recruiting Inc.

What would you improve about this program?
Having a little more information about the city we were placed in would have been nice. Its been wonderful we just didn't know what to expect until we got here.

Yes, I recommend this program

An excellent company to get involved with

I could not ask for a better school to get paired up with from Travel and Teach. The atmosphere perfectly fits my style, and the people working there are very friendly. Upon getting to my school, I had already become close friends with my co-teachers and through them I was able to make many more friends within a matter of days. This pairing not only fit my ideal workplace, but also my interests in terms of activities my co-teachers liked to do. I have only been here a month and a half and I have joined a soccer league with many of my friends, I have traveled around and visited many different areas, and I have settled in very nicely to my new life in Korea. Travel and Teach is entirely to thank for the perfect placement for me.

What would you improve about this program?
I personally did not have any problems with this program and because of that, I cannot think of anything I would want to change.

Yes, I recommend this program

Great Placement- Zero support

Travel and teach was incredibly helpful in finding a great school, but that's about it. I personally reached out to my soon to be co-workers to find out what to actually expect, as the information I had been given was wrong. Once I got to Korea, I never heard from Travel and Teach again.

I am sorry to hear that you feel we did not provide any after service for you once you arrived in Korea.

An email was sent to you on July 1st to see how you were doing, but we did not receive a response. I see that we only have your university email account that you provided, which seems to have expired. This is likely the reason why you did not receive our message.

We did check in with your director around the same time, who said that you were doing great and were adjusting well.

I have also gone through our correspondence and did not find any notes about any discrepancies in the information about the school that was provided to you.

Please get in touch with us to discuss any matters further as we want your experience in Korea to be as good as it can be.

Do you need a degree or is having a TEFL qualification enough?

Hi Cazedi, Unfortunately the Korean government requires people to have a BA in order to get a working visa.

Is the program open only to specific countries? I am well-versed in English but feel like my country might not be included?

HI Leila, There are only 7 countries that South Korea will grant teaching visas to. They are: Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. If you are not a citizen of one of these countries, there unfortunately is no chance for you to get a teaching visa for Korea.

At what age would you have to be to teach English in Korea?

Why did you choose this program?

Life is full of the unknown and the what ifs – keep in mind the hungry wolves that try to cheat and steal from you.

I chose this program because I wanted a trustworthy and reliable anchor in the deep waters of finding a job thousands of miles away – a job in a country with different traditions, food, and above all, a different language.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

The program assisted me with far more than just what was expected. They gave me step by step instructions from what they need from me (like my CV) and even country specific information.

As I am from South Africa, they gave me the locations and operating times of where I have to go with my documents, step by step. They also provided me with a Teacher’s Manual and a guide for my first few days in Korea.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I would say do not hesitate to ask questions. This is your future that we are talking about. You have to be sure that you understand what is required of you and what is expected from your employer.

The agency normally has a correspondent in your country of choice, so ask all the questions you need. The correspondent will make sure there is no language gaps (and you will have it on black and white, just in case).

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

I am at a Hagwon so that means this is a private school. I start work at 10 am and then we end at 6:30. In the mornings, I have kindergarten kids. We just play and basically have a great time while learning English. The afternoons are more of a language school setup. This means kids come in and they have books, and we go through it and help out where we can.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change

Meeting new people - BIG ONE.

I can honestly say, just meet one person and the rest is history. If your co-workers have been there for a while, it is much easier to meet new people. The expat community is really your new family over there. There are groups on Facebook that also help out, with regular meet-ups or events taking place in your city.

What will you pack that is out of the ordinary?

The things you miss the most about home is not really the things that you would expect. It is not the jams that you sang along to on the radio or the even the special at your favorite restaurant.

It`s the small things that you miss like the headache pill from back home or your brand of aftershave. The pillowcase in your room and your favorite seasoning.

A sentimental little thing can truly help you through the home-sick days.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is my backpacking trip to Europe. I have traveled to many places in the world, but this was the first time I traveled alone. I was not restricted in doing anything that I wanted to, and was, therefore, able to plan my trip to my taste.

I spent a month traveling to all of the major cities in Europe, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

Out of all of the countries in Europe, Switzerland was the most memorable country to me as it had the best scenery out of all of the places that I visited. I fell in love with the mountains that had a different vibe to the Rocky Mountains in Canada.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have learned how to successfully interact with strangers while working at Travel and Teach.

Interacting with new people through my role as a Placement Coordinator was able to help me grow my interaction skills with people. I tend to be a bit shy when talking to strangers, but since I started working with Travel and Teach, I have become much more outgoing.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

The best story that I have heard is from a teacher who applied to us about two years ago, who was 'stuck in a rut', according to him. He was working at Walmart full time as he wasn't able to secure a job as a teacher in his city even though he graduated with a Bachelor's in Education. He applied to us and within months he was in one of our schools in Seoul teaching. He has reported back (many times!) that he absolutely loves his job and feels that he is fulfilled living and working as a teacher in Korea. I don't think he will be leaving Korea anytime soon!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to teach older students in Korea through the Travel and Teach Program. Since I don't relate as well to young kids, teaching older students definitely fits my taste more.

Korea is a wonderful country to live and work in, and I would specifically recommend working in Korea if you are thinking of working in a country in Asia. Seoul and Busan are the two most popular cities, but there are so many other unknown cities that have beautiful scenery and wonderful communities. My advice is therefore to not limit yourself!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

My company is unique because it is always willing to help its employees develop both professionally and personally. No matter the circumstance, my team is always willing to help however I may need it, which makes me feel that they always have my back. From training to the day-to-day work, management has always been very helpful. I am very thankful to them and I highly recommend working for this company.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think the biggest factor in being a successful company is how true the company is to their customers. The relationship between a customer and the company is the key to the long-term success of any company, but this is especially true with Travel and Teach. As we have been in business for over 20 years (since 2001), we have worked with thousands of teachers. We have always strived to provide each and every one of them with the best possible experience in Korea. As per our online reviews, I believe we have been very successful at this.
