Perfect introduction to travelling abroad and teaching

I feel I left Colombia with a much better grasp on teaching, having gained valuable experience and tools to complete the TESOL qualification. I made friends for life and acquired confidence to seize new opportunities. I felt the Spanish lessons were an important aspect that have left me a more worldly individual.

I loved the programme as a whole, felt the accommodation was top notch and the town a great introduction to life in Colombia. It was a perfect blend of spending time with new English friends and meeting Colombians to practice Spanish and immerse ourselves in daily life.

GoToCo - Vietnam Coins for Change

Overall I had a great experience joining this programme, I would recommend it to any of my friends or graduates who are looking to change things up and explore a new culture after finishing university.

This is a great way to access and experience the true example of a country as you live local with a host and can explore off the beaten track places which are truly more authentic than the usual tourist trails people endeavour when travelling.

Exploring new places, experiencing new cuisines, making friends and networks along the way is something I truly appreciated.

Pros
  • Travel
  • New culture
  • Teaching Experience
Cons
  • Not certain where you will be placed

Great experience

Great experience teaching at a summer camp in Thailand. Intense but rewarding work, where we had a great end of programme trip on an island and some short stays in Bangkok and other cities to break it up. We had the opportunity to explore quite a few different cities and places in Thailand and had a lot of different cultural activities on our days off, some language lessons that I enjoyed and overall a diverse & jam-packed experience. Memories that will last a lifetime, and brilliant that everything was fully funded. Would recommend :)

Gotoco Thailand 2023

Gotoco provides you with the opportunity to teach English, gain valuable work experience, immerse yourself in the local culture and travel the world. Their programmes are largely funded through the UK governments Turing Fund as they come with recognised TEFL/TESOL training so there is little to no cost to you. This experience will enable you to meet new life long friends while making a real impact on rural students and getting to see and understand the culture of others.I would and have recommended Gotoco many times, I believe it is a great opportunity for you to get out of your comfort zone.

Fantastic Experience

My programme in Vietnam was an extremely rewarding and fun experience. I was placed in as lively city and was able to travel across the north of Vietnam during my weekends. The programme has definitely benefited me in regards to my personal confidence and ability to navigate a new culture as well as experience what teaching would be like in a foreign country. The mid-programme and end-of-programme trips organised by the company were also amazing and such a good opportunity to develop friendships with other people on the programme!

Pros
  • Local experience
  • Living expenses paid for
  • Programme trips

Couldn't recommend more

This was a great experience that gave me so much confidence, not only in my ability to teach and lead but also my own personal development. It is an extremely generous company and everything was funded which is very rare to find with other teaching programmes. All the food and accommodation was of great standard as well as the cultural excursions. I definitely recommend doing one of the programmes as you gain a TESOL qualification for free and get great teaching experience. You also get to meet other like minded people and immerse yourself in a new culture.

Pros
  • Fully funded!
  • Mini break at the end of the programme
  • TESOL qualification

Spain

I loved the little idiosyncrasies in the process of teaching English, especially in the early weeks. The times when we could guide teachers in the learning of English confirmed that I would enjoy teaching longer-term, something I was unsure of until the program and I am glad that I learned I could handle it and be quite good at it. I loved gradually--and sometimes slowly-- learning more of the Spanish language. The camp was about English immersion, and all our lessons were done entirely in English, but if you ventured outside of the camp to the bar or to the local shops (and by 'local,' I mean the shops an hour away in Montoro,) you needed Spanish. As a Latino in the United States, it meant a great deal to me intellectually and personally to improve my Spanish while guiding others in the English language. It motivates me to consider the yearlong program in Colombia. I would be thrilled to do this if you'd have me again.

I loved the days after swimming when my roommate and I would sit on our deck and look at the Andalusian hills. Our house had an Italian coffee maker and we got very good at using it during this time. So that memory--of swimming and then very calmly drinking home-brewed coffee is special to me.

I loved the times when we would have late-night conversations at Bar El Nino, the inside jokes, the laughter. I loved walking up and down the hiking trails and learning about each other in small unspoken ways.

I loved the way this program returned me to an older, more confident version of myself. Being in university can make you question everything about yourself -- your worth, your values, your ability in comparison to others--but I was so grateful for this program which confirmed a self-confidence I thought I had lost. I left Venta feeling more capable, prepared for a job outside my comfort zone, and with a huge new set of friends to help me if I need them.

The best experience of my life

If you want to try something different, Gotoco offers many exciting opportunities.

I taught English in Thailand for almost 2 months in 2023, and I don't regret it. It was an excellent way to travel, get experience working abroad, meet cool people, and all while being very affordable. It involved a lot of cultural trips, Thai language classes, Thai cooking lessons and many more. I have very fond memories of my time with Gotoco!

I would recommend the experience to anyone who fancies an adventure.

Pros
  • Meet new people
  • Exploring different culture and environments
  • Build confidence
Cons
  • Seem like they’re short of stuff
