About Program

Volunteering Solutions provides the most affordable and meaningful programs in India. It's time for you to take a trip to this majestic country and indulge in doing something worthy for the underprivileged people living in this country. VolSol partners with local organizations and NGOs, and aims for sustainable development!

There are more than 15 different volunteering & internship programs available in India in the cities of New Delhi, Jaipur & Palampur. You can choose to volunteer with street children, or teach kids, or intern under a professional doctor at a healthcare center. No matter which projects you choose to be a part of, you'll get to learn a lot and gain experience. Explore the beauty of India, and visit several UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Taj Mahal. In Palampur, we have introduced the Yoga & Volunteer Adventure Program, which would be a perfect choice for those who are keen to learn the art of Yoga & Meditation while volunteering with kids.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here. Learn more about how Volunteering Solutions is promoting ethical volunteering.

An amazing stay!

As a 2nd year student midwife in the UK, we have to complete a short period of Elective Placement where you chose another hospital in which to gain some experience. After deciding on India as my destination, I researched many projects to get involved in and ended up choosing to volunteer through Volunteering Solutions and boy am I glad that I did!
After a Language and Orientation week in Delhi in which we learnt about the Indian culture and some basic Hindi, toured the sights and visited the world famous Taj Mahal, I headed up to Palampur and the wonderful team at the Vidya Bhupendra Rotary Women & Child Care Hospital where I was made to feel very welcome. The hospital has around 10-15 normal deliveries and around 10-12 caesareans a month and I was lucky enough to experience one of each during my two weeks there. The nurses and doctors spoke very good English and were almost as excited as I was for my time there where we had a lot of fun and I have made some truly amazing friends. During a shift, I would observe (and participate in where I felt comfortable) Antenatal appointments, ward rounds and deliveries as well as learn about the culture of maternity in India. The hospital is run by a charity and had a good level of resources but not quite to the level that I had become accustomed to in the UK which provided challenges and many learning opportunities for me. As well as this, the practices were generally the same but with some marked differences such as it being illegal to reveal the gender of the baby.
The accommodation was nestled down a little path in a valley next to the Himalayas. The views that could be enjoyed over breakfast, from the gardens or from the roof were frankly breathtaking. The rooms were practical and well equipped and the food that was provided three times a day was local, vegetarian (apart from on Wednesdays) and delicious. The staff were very attentive and visited every day to see how we were getting on and to go for 4-5km hikes with their children around the local area every evening. They also helped to organise some amazing weekend activities such as visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Dalai Lama's home monastery at Mcleod Ganji.
Overall, I had an incredible time and learnt so much about Indian culture as well as maternity services and practices within India. I would say that it has changed my perspective on so many things and opened my eyes to other cultures and how wonderful some people can be. I would recommend this experience to anybody!

Awesome and eye opening experience of a lifetime!

I went to India with Volunteering Solutions over my Summer break in 2015. I went alone and met with a small group of ten others from around the world. We were able to experience a whole different world together and see so much of India! It was organized very well and we were safely transported to each destination by the organization. The kids in Delhi were gorgeous and an inspiration to each of us. The sightseeing was also incredible! Definitely a way to get out of your comfort zone and experience something new.

What would you improve about this program?
More activities or things for the volunteers to do after their days of volunteering at the schools. The Palumpur location needs some help the transportation was not provided and the schools were not welcoming.

working in a slum children education centre

I worked in a slum children education centre for 5 weeks and I loved it! First I planned to work there for 4 weeks, but I wanted to extend my stay.. and even 5 weeks were quite short. It was great to just be with the children, teach them and play with them and they were so happy that we were there. Another great thing was to see their life in the slums. They don't have much.. But they seem to be happy and satisfied with their life and proud that they have a home. I think I could learn a lot from that time and I will also try to be happy with small things in life!

What would you improve about this program?
As there is a lot of money to pay for the program it would be good if the volunteers would get to know for what all the money is being used and how the projects are being supported.

Delhi Times

When I arrived in India, I was a little shocked because I was on Asia for the first time... I didn't now what to expect once; I didn't know what was gonna be the work with the Children, etc.

But once I met the children I fall in love with them. I realize that children in Mexico and India, they are pretty the same.. they have such a sweet inocence, and they really see you as an example to be.

I realize that indian children are very grateful for working with them, playing with them...

I remember that the last day on the school they cried because we were leaving India, and we were leaving them. I think We really made empathy each other.. we forgot all the physical, cultural, national differences, we were just humans talking with humans.

I deffinetly can go a thousand times to Delhi again just to have a nice time with them. I had a lot of fun but beyond that I learned a lot...

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe the food. I know that is part of the experience to try the local food, but maybe its a nice idea to have some patience with the volunteers, trying neutral food.

my experience during the Summer program in India

I've spent my summer in thailand and india with the organisation volunteering solutions. And i have to say, my summer was amazing! India as a country really surprised me. I didn't know there were so many beautiful buildings, temples and castles! During the summer program, i had the chance to visit a lot of them and still i'm not satisfied, I want to see more! :D

I'm happy that I visit india through volunteering solutions. For me India was a far away country which I would never just go visit by myself. I was very pleased with the organisation. I was picked up at the airport. The accommodations where we stayed where always nice. I loved the house in Delhi, the hotels during traveling were amazing and the volunteer house in Palampur, especially build for volunteers, was really nice too!

There was a lot of variety during the summer program. First we where in Delhi for a week, where i volunteered in a school for street children. This one is actually my best experience. Working with this children was amazing. You will realize, once you go there yourself! The second we traveld to different cities like jaipur and agra. Definitely worth visiting! In the third week we traveled to dharamsala for hiking. This was probably my second favorite experience. The view was awesome, and I would never have done this without the guidance of the organisation. Our last days we spent volunteering in a school in palampur. A small town in the mountains.

if you like working with children and want to learn about the indian culture, i can definitely recommend this program! If you are interested to see some pictures, you can also take a look at my fotoblog: https://dreamgoanddiscover.wordpress.com/

What would you improve about this program?
The last four days of our summer program we were in palampur for volunteering. In palampur we felt a bit lost after the great guidance we had before. We could have used a bit more attention of the staff.

Amazing Experience in Delhi

I was a little apprehensive about this programme because I'd never really done anything like this before, but it was easily the best experience of my life and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The safety of volunteers is their number one priority. The accommodation I satyed in was incredible, and our host was very attentive to our needs and the food served was amazing! I saw some incredible things and met some amazing people. I'll definitely be keeping in contact with the people I met. My favourite part of the trip was the weekend we spent in Jaipur, especially the elephant ride up to the Amber Fort. My only regret about the whole trip is that I didn't spend longer than two weeks there. Highly recommended!

What would you improve about this program?
The pre-departure booklet is very informative, but it would be better if we were told the exact address of the location we'd be staying in. Nevertheless, the accommodation I stayed in was incredible, as were the others I saw.

VITAL EXPERIENCE IN INDIA WITH VOLUNTEERING SOLUTIONS

Last summer I spent 4 weeks in India working in the Street Children Education Project with Volunteering Solutions.
Before my arrival all the members of the staff were answering and dealing with all my questions, queries and dubts which I came across during the preparation of my trip. They were always happy to help me and giving accurate and quick reply which was utterly helpful.

During my stay in India everything went smooth thanks to the staff members who were always working to ensure volunteers welfare and security. They helped us not only with the accomodation and our everyday life in the project but also they sorted out our trips, offering the best options to suit our needs and recommending us the best places to visit. In my case, I went to Agra, Jaipur and Varanasi, all my trips were arranged by Volunteering Solutions and they included all the things we asked for. We visited the most important monuments and other sights, ate in traditional and delicious restaurants with our oun guides and car, etc.

The programme itself was the best part of the whole experience. Being with the children doing all sort of activities was just fantastic. I taught them maths, English and some Spanish, we made handcrafts, played games, singed songs and danced Indian and Spanish dances, we talked a lot about our cultures, we got involved in the local and religious celebrations like the independence day and Krishna's god birth, among other things. I brought a lot of different material to do all kind of activities with them, which they enjoyed and learned a lot.

With regards to the accomodation, our house was located in a very nice and safe neibourhood, well communicated and all amenities were nearby. The housekeeper and coordinator lived with us and always made sure we were ok, enjoying the experience, being safe, and giving us the support we needed. He also cleaned the house and cooked for us. We really appreciated living with him because he also gave us good tips about places to visit and explained things about the Indian culture.

As I have said before, for me the time spent with the children in the programme was the most valuable and meaningful part of my experience in India. I loved being with them, talking about our countries, teaching and learning, singing different songs and dances, and all the different things we did together. I went there to give and I left with all the things they gave me.

Overall, It was a vital, rewarding, inspiring and challenging experience that I will never fordet and I would love to repeat again. I seize this opportunity to thank all the people who took part in my experience and helped to make it wonderful.

Thank you.
Judit

What would you improve about this program?
If there's anything I would improve, that would be to make some kind of preparation and awareness lessons for the volunteers, for them to know better about the project in which they are working. Also, to ensure a continuation of the project development, I would provide some guidelines so that when one volunteer leaver, the new one can catch up with the other's work.
