It was an unforgettable experience

This is my first time volunteering, and all I can say is: it’s very heartwarming, unique experience! I recommend everyone should do it as well. The people in the “houses” are so kind and friendly. Even found friends, which after volunteering for 4 weeks in arusha, realized how much these people mean to me.
The program itself is great! But a tiny thing, that bothers me, that you can change is the food in the house we live in. Nothing wrong with it, maybe a change with the food very day and not the same meal for 2-3 days straight for example.

Volunteering experience

I had the best time helping those who needed it. This allowed me to change my view on the world and realise that this is the reality of other people’s life making me grateful for everything I have. The support from all the coordinators was everything that I needed and more than enough, they all helped guide me in the right direction and gave me the best advice. The people I met at the program were all so nice and allowed me to feel comfortable straight away. I was able to have as much fun while also volunteering!!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would definitely do more activities the organisation offered.
Pros
  • The people I met
  • The support i received
  • The memories I created
Cons
  • Leaving
  • Saying bye to the children at the day care
  • Not staying for longer

When can I come back there?

I spent three weeks in Tanzania with IVHQ childcare program and I had the best time of my life.
I had the possibility to enter in contact with the beautiful cultural of Tanzania and met other volunteers with whom I shared this beautiful experience.
I felt completely safe during my time there thanks to the security guards and the trusted drivers.
The accommodations were clean, the food was great and The Local team was always reachable.
The IVHQ and the Local Team provides a lot of activities during your time their with affordable price like for example the safari or the excursions climbing the Kilimanjaro.
I loved every moment that I spent there also thank to the other volunteers and I would love to do this experience again.
I think everybody should do an experience like this once in their life.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I think one of the most surprising thing was when we woke up in the morning and we saw the monkeys all around the garden of the house. Was so funny and totaly unexpected.
The monkeys were not aggressive they were just curios.
Pros
  • Met a lot of people that came from all world
  • Had the possibility to help the local community
  • The children that I volunteer with taught me more than I could gave to them
Cons
  • The time flies :)

Maasai Immersion

Maasai Immersion
I had the opportunity to spend two weeks living and working with the Maasai tribe in Tanzania and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I made life-long friends and left feeling as though I had truly made an impact. This was an immersive experience that left me feeling as though I had a sense of not only how the Maasai lived, but about their culture, language, and lifestyle. After this experience, I stayed at a resort in Zanzibar. While that experience was thoroughly enjoyable, it did not compare to the feeling of connectedness to the community I felt when I was living with the Maasai.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared to live in conditions entirely different from those in the United States. Plan to live among the Maasai more or less like the Maasai. This is an immersive experience.
Pros
  • I felt like I had an impact in the village.
  • I built life-long friendships.
  • I experienced an entirely new way of life.
Cons
  • The only con I can think of is that I wish I would have made arrangements to stay longer.

Incredible from beginning to end.

The experience was truly incredible from beginning to end. Throughout the entire process, I felt accompanied and secure, with assistance available at all times. The company consistently prioritizes your well-being and safety, ensuring that you feel comfortable and happy, just like at home. Their commitment to providing exceptional service and support is evident in every interaction. The dedication and effort of everyone involved are truly magnificent, making the entire experience seamless and enjoyable.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw was how resourceful and adaptive caregivers in regions of Africa are when it comes to changing diapers. Due to financial constraints, they often can't afford traditional disposable diapers. Instead, they ingeniously use a cloth, such as a blanket, wrapped around the baby, with a plastic bag placed over it to prevent leaks. This practice not only underscores their creativity and resilience but also highlights the urgent need for better access to essential childcare products.
Pros
  • Cultural Immersion
  • Personal Growth
Cons
  • Language Barriers

My trip with IVHQ

My trip to Arusha, Tanzania, with IVHQ to support women’s development was truly transformative. From the moment I arrived, the local team was incredibly supportive, ensuring that every volunteer felt welcomed and well-prepared for the work ahead. Their guidance and dedication were instrumental in making our contributions meaningful and impactful.

The work we did focused on empowering women through various educational and vocational training programs. Witnessing the immediate and positive impact on the community was immensely rewarding. We helped women gain skills that would enable them to achieve financial independence and improve their quality of life. Seeing the confidence and pride in the eyes of the women we worked with was one of the most fulfilling aspects of the trip.

Beyond the volunteering, the local experiences in Arusha were unforgettable. We had the opportunity to visit a Maasai village, where we learned about their unique culture, traditions, and way of life. The Maasai tribe’s warm hospitality and vibrant traditions left a lasting impression on all of us.

Since that trip, I have been on two other trips with IVHQ, and each one has been an amazing experience. The organization’s commitment to making a genuine difference in communities around the world, combined with the support of local teams, has made each journey impactful and memorable. If you’re considering a volunteer trip, I highly recommend IVHQ.

What was your funniest moment?
Being the ‘bride’ in a Maasai wedding ceremony such a fun and inviting experience!
Pros
  • Local community
  • Volunteer impact
  • Cost

10/10

I highly reccomend ivhq to anyone, it’s a particularly great company to go through if your under 18 and looking to volunteer. I have just got back from being in Tanzania, i went on my own and am 16 years old, the whole process of communication has been excellent and has been carried through while at the location aswell. I have met friends for life and totally fell in love with the culture and the children at my daycare who i miss so much already! the coordinators are amazing at what they do, particularly Dani who is the loveliest person ever and really helped me when i needed a bit of extra support, all coordinators do everything they can to make your experience as best as possible. if your thinking about booking through ivhq… DO IT! i will definitely be back 💗

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I suffer with extreme emetephobia so knew this would be a huge challenge when going to a new country where it is common to get ill and the food is totally different. However i totally immersed myself into the culture and lifestyle and lived in the moment, i loved everything so much and overcame many milestones.
Pros
  • Amazing coordinators
  • Made friends for life
  • It was eye opening
