Advertising & Events

Go Abroad China took care of everything for me!
When I was offered the advertising internship in Shanghai, I was hesitant. Where would I live? Would my rudimentary Mandarin be enough to get me by? Would I make friends easily enough? I had no need to worry. Go Abroad China took care of everything. My actual job role was working behind the scenes to plan and prepare advertising and promotional material to increase sales. It was, by far, the best advertising internship for me. I attended workshops so I could improve my spoken, written and listening language skills and I found the other workshop attendees were just like me! We helped each other out. The social life was great. As well as quickly making friends at work, I ventured out on the Go Abroad China organized events and they were great fun.

IT, Software & Web Internships

My IT internship enabled me to explore Beijing and sample the local cuisine!
Internet usage is unprecedented and with global companies outsourcing IT to China, I see a realm of possibilities for career prospects. My area of expertise lies in web development and software engineering. GAC informed me of an IT internship at a company based in Beijing and since I’ve always wanted to see The Forbidden City and The Great Wall of China, I jumped at the chance. My internship as a web designer involved working with a highly skilled mix of people involved in improving UX design. The best bit of the program for me was the dinner get-togethers GAC told me about. This is where the GAC interns met up over dinner. I was nervous about trying some dishes so this was a great way for me to venture out of my comfort zone in the comfort of like-minded individuals.

International Trade

Networking events were essential for me; the program didn’t disappoint!
Go Abroad China arranged for me to work at an international trade company in Shanghai where I could develop my focus on the export of Chinese manufactured goods and the associated regulations. Networking opportunities were crucial for me as my aim was to make contacts that would enable me to develop a career in this area. At the same time as fulfilling the duties required with my international trade administration internship, I was able to attend Mandarin classes at Go Abroad China and attend social events organized by GAC. I came away from my internship with an in-depth knowledge of international trade and sales, connections with potentially influential individuals, and a greatly enhanced CV, which places me exactly where I need to be for the next step in my career.

Graphic, Interior& Fashion Design

I had plenty of time to explore the beautiful city of Hangzhou!

I had a strong desire to work in China to enhance my future job prospects, but it was important to me that I could experience the beauty and nature of the country as well as its vibrant cities. I spoke to a representative at Go Abroad China and they suggested Hangzhou, a city renowned for its enchanting scenery and rich cultural heritage. I was told that Hangzhou is one of China’s most popular travel destinations and I soon learned why. West Lake is a breathtakingly beautiful spot with willow-lined banks, mist-covered hills, pavilions, arched bridges and a little island that you can only reach by boat. During my Fashion design Internship, I have loved exploring the temples, shrines, and pagodas, and sampling the delicious Zhejiang cuisine. My particular favorite is the tender West Lake fish served in the vinegar-based Sweet Sour Sauce. Delicious!

My experience in my Business Internship in China

My business internship in China was one of my most memorable experiences. I cant forget arriving in China, so nervous and asking myself what I had gotten myself into, then being picked up by Serena from Go Abroad China and driven to my accommodation. But, within 2 weeks I was commuting to work by myself, doing some shopping and I made really funny friends. My internship went too fast for me though I enjoyed every moment of it.

Legal and Law Internship

I dont think I've had a better internship than the one i had through GAC. My internship company pushd me to take on the same work the full-time staffers worked on. This made me gain new skills in my career field. I gained technical skills, exposure to workforce culture and education about the chinese corporate structure. On the weekdays, GAC would take us to chinese events and theater shows. I practised tai chi and got to make some dumplings. It was a worthwhile experience overall.

Intensive Chinese Language Classes at BLCU

When I arrived in China, my main goal was to improve my chinese and BLCU helped me a lot on progressing my Chinese ability. The teachers were all friendly and enthusiastic.

When i arrived the language barrier really hit me. Everything sounded strange, but through attending classes at BLCU i was able to speak more than "Ni Hao"

Classes were well organised and the teachers were really experienced and made me feel confident and at ease in my new Chinese environment. Learning the Chinese characters proved difficult, but the teachers were able to make the lessons fun and engaging and this was really beneficial.

Apart from learning chinese, i did a lot of travelling which i really enjoyed.
I also had so much fun during the weekends with GAC going on trips and activities. I had so much fun and I would highly recommend this program to anyone.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing Id like to be improved is on the flexibility of class times.
