Really happy with Christina’s lessons

I’ve been taking Mandarin lessons with Christina as a beginner, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! From the very first lesson, Christina’s teaching style has proven to be incredibly positive and encouraging, which makes learning a new language feel enjoyable and accessible. As someone who had little prior experience with Mandarin, I was initially intimidated by the complexity of the language. However, Christina’s warm demeanor and supportive approach quickly put me at ease.

One of the standout qualities of Christina’s teaching is her ability to explain concepts thoroughly. She takes the time to break down each lesson into manageable parts, ensuring that I truly understand the material before moving on. This approach has been instrumental in my learning journey. I never feel rushed or overwhelmed. Instead, Christina checks in regularly to gauge my understanding and encourages me to ask questions whenever I need clarification. Her patience and dedication to her students are obvious in every lesson, and this has made a significant difference in my confidence as I move on to new topics.

Christina also employs a variety of teaching methods to keep the lessons engaging and interactive. We often incorporate games, role-playing scenarios and conversation practice, which not only reinforce what I’m learning but also make the process fun. For instance, we sometimes play out real life scenarios (ordering food, travel, talking in a bar). This interactive approach not only solidifies my understanding but also makes each lesson something I look forward to.

Moreover, Christina has a knack for personalising her lessons to fit my learning pace and style. She takes the time to understand my strengths and areas where I need more practice, adjusting her teaching techniques accordingly. This tailored approach has been incredibly beneficial, as it allows me to progress steadily without feeling overwhelmed. Christina’s ability to adapt to my needs has created a supportive learning environment that fosters growth and confidence.

Another aspect I appreciate about Christina is her willingness to share cultural insights related to the language. In addition to teaching vocabulary and grammar, she often discusses traditions, customs and everyday life in different parts of China. This cultural context enriches my learning experience and helps me appreciate the language on a deeper level. It’s fascinating to learn about the nuances of Mandarin in relation to the culture and it motivates me to want to learn more.

The atmosphere in Christina’s classes is always warm and welcoming. She creates a space where I feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. This supportive environment has been crucial in helping me overcome my fear of speaking a new language. Christina’s encouragement allows me to practice my speaking skills without the anxiety that often accompanies language learning.

Lastly, Christina regularly tracks my progress and provides constructive feedback. This not only helps me stay motivated but also ensures that I’m continually challenged yet never overwhelmed. I appreciate her ability to recognise when I’m ready to move on to more complex topics while still reinforcing foundational skills.

All in all, I highly recommend Christina to anyone looking to learn Mandarin. Her positive teaching style, personalised approach and dedication to her students create an exceptional learning experience. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as my instructor, and I am excited to continue my journey in learning Mandarin with her guidance!

Highly recommended study path

Great professionalism, prepared and kind teachers, attention to the students about their skills and necessities. The teaching program is specific and unique, designed for the best learning. The school offers various activities, such as going outside, visiting the city, going out and walking, having lunch together, and breathing a family atmosphere. In the moments of study there is great seriousness, the student is encouraged on giving the best of his self in the study. The school offers very useful materials. For me really precious are the Magical Talking cards.

100% recomendation

When I joined Silk Mandarin, I had already finished HSK3 but had taken a long break, so I wasn’t sure if I could keep up with HSK4. From the very beginning, my teacher and the team made me feel supported and confident to give it a try — and I’m so glad I did! The lessons are dynamic and well-structured, and thanks to the online resources and my teacher’s patience, I managed to catch up quickly and improve a lot in just a few months.

The atmosphere is super positive, everyone’s friendly, and the hybrid format is a real plus — I could join online when I couldn’t make it to class in person without missing a thing. The one-on-one lessons also helped me focus on what I personally needed to improve.

I’ve made huge progress and, most importantly, I’ve fallen back in love with learning Chinese!

What was your funniest moment?
One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about my Chinese classes this year is how international our group is — it’s me from Spain, a British classmate, a Mexican, a Russian, and our lovely teacher. The classes are always so much fun because we end up sharing stories about our countries, laughing at cultural differences, and learning from each other while improving our Chinese.

Enriching teaching

I’ve been studying for over half a year now and am able to talk around me in my daily life. The main goal is achieve. Additionally I’ve been able to learn more about the culture, the food and other things which makes my everyday life even more interesting.

The teaching method is very interesting since after one course, they can select a teacher that match your preferred teaching style. The course also helps you build confidence in everyday talking which is great if you plan on living in Shanghai.

Silk Mandarin? Not just a language school. 😎

I’m really happy with my experience at Silk Mandarin! From the start, Coco was so kind and helpful, making the whole process of getting started very easy and welcoming. The reception staff are also always friendly and ready to help you find your classroom, which makes everything run smoothly. My teacher, Jane Wu, has been absolutely wonderful — she makes learning Chinese feel approachable and not intimidating at all, even for a complete beginner like me. Her lessons are clear, engaging, and always encouraging. Thanks to her, I feel much more confident and motivated to continue my Chinese learning journey!

I was not sure I could learn until Silk

I had a first bad contact with mandarin and was sure I could never learn the language but after a few months having classes on Silk Mandarin I feel like I am learning and improving. The first class the sounds and writing characters being so different I was scary and afraid, but after knowing my teacher and connecting with her I felt safe to make mistakes and learn in the process. The school space is great and teachers and staff are friendly and very nice. The building is under renovation that makes access a little hard but nothing big

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?

Silk Mandarin - My Best Chinese Learning Experience!

I studied the HSK4 content with 春艳老师 for 8 months, part-time in the mornings.
Our class size was 4 students, meaning there was lots of time for each of us to contribute to the class.

I was very happy with the class, and my learning progress has been fantastic.
The school has lots of learning materials to help with mastering the new words, and the teachers can see where you are making mistakes through their online learning platform.

It's a great setup and will improve your Chinese very quickly! I cant recommend it enough

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I asked my teacher if I could deliver a presentation about a story in Chinese.

I was very nervous because there were a lot of words that I needed to memorise that were quite difficult, alongside presenting the story in an interesting way.

I overcame that part by sending the PPT to my teacher and having them check my work before going in, and practicing with a friend beforehand
Pros
  • Online materials to help master new words quickly
  • In-class focussed on speaking
  • Additional online materials for extended study
Cons
  • Price tag is a little high
  • Sales team can be difficult to get a hold of
  • Out-of-hours content is wholly managed by the teacher
