My experience with the TEFL Academy

I decided to study with the TEFL Academy after researching several different TEFL providers. Their level 5 qualification and positive online reviews made them stand out!

The course was well-structured and covered everything that you need to know about teaching English online and in a foreign country. I appreciated the mix of theory and practical examples. The platform was so easy to navigate, and I liked being able to study at my own pace. The tutor's support was quick and helpful. Flexible and Empowering

I finished my Level 5 TEFL certification with The TEFL Academy in 2025, and honestly, it was a really positive experience. The course was well-organized and covered everything I needed, from grammar and lesson planning to classroom management and teaching methods in a way that was easy to follow and engaging.

What I loved most was how flexible the course was. I could study at my own pace, which made it so much easier to balance with my other commitments.

Whenever I had questions or ran into any tech issues, the support team was quick to help. The course challenged me just enough to step outside my comfort zone but without being overwhelming, thanks to clear explanations and practical examples.

A big highlight for me was the assignments. They weren’t just theoretical; they actually helped me practice real teaching skills, especially when it came to lesson planning. The feedback I got was detailed and really useful for improving.

The TEFL Academy also offers lots of job resources like resume tips, job boards, and connections to employers. While some of the job support was more focused on the UK and Europe, it was still a helpful starting point for my international job search.

Cons
  • Limited live teaching practice
  • Some job resources are UK-/EU-centric
  • Would benefit from more video demonstrations

Why I chose TEFL while living in Germany

I recently completed the TEFL Level 5 course as part of my goal to broaden my career opportunities, particularly since I’ve been living in Germany for the past two years. Moving to a new country has inspired me to seek professional paths that are both flexible and internationally relevant, and teaching English felt like a natural fit.
The course provided a comprehensive and well-structured foundation in teaching English as a foreign language. It covered essential topics such as grammar, lesson planning, classroom management, and different teaching methodologies. I especially appreciated the balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application, which made the learning process both engaging and effective.
Throughout the course, I developed a deeper understanding of how to support language learners of various ages and backgrounds. It also helped me build the confidence and skills necessary to begin teaching, whether in traditional classrooms or online platforms.
Now, I feel much more prepared to take on new challenges and explore teaching opportunities that align with my lifestyle and goals. This certification has opened doors to meaningful work that I can pursue not only in Germany, but potentially anywhere in the world.

Teaching is more than education - it's a lifestyle

Through the TEFL course, I had the opportunity to explore a wide range of teaching methodologies, which allowed me to understand the different ways students learn and how to adapt my teaching style accordingly. I deepened my understanding of effective teaching techniques, from lesson planning and classroom management to engaging students through interactive and communicative approaches. Additionally, the course helped me significantly improve my own proficiency in the English language, while also equipping me with the tools to share my enthusiasm and passion for English in a clear, inspiring, and impactful way. This experience has greatly contributed to my growth as both a language learner and an aspiring teacher.

I enjoyed this course

I would definitely recommend this course, especially if there are no other options to complete it fully in-person. The content is relevant and current. Support is there if you need it. It's harder than I expected it would be - especially as a native English speaker and journalist - but I like that it was challenging. I am excited to begin my teaching journey and this course was an excellent starting point. As a New Zealander, my only disappointment is that although I'm highly experienced and qualified in my journalism/communications career, I don't have a university degree, so that limits where I can apply for jobs.

What was your funniest moment?
The in-person teaching practice day was fun, meeting the other TEFL students, we had some funny moments.
Pros
  • Flexible
  • Convenient
  • Current and relevant
Cons
  • Can be isolating not being in an actual classroom
  • Can be difficult not having a teacher in-person
  • Harder to complete if working full time - but doable.
