Diversity & Inclusion 💙

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.
Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.
CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact 🌎

Interning Abroad!

CAPA gave me the opportunity to intern abroad in a field of my choice. They did all of the work for me in terms of finding me a company to work with and finding a supervisor for me to work under. All I had to do was tell them my preference for field work (which I put HR - human resources) and they took care of the rest for me. CAPA was awesome because they provided support to me throughout the whole way. They paid for all of my transportation which was a huge lifesaver.
The company I worked for was IHG, Intercontinental Hotel Group, and my team and supervisor were all amazing in helping me to assimilate to the life of London and the life of working in London. Being able to gain work experience in a different country was absolutely amazing and it was a phenomenal opportunity. I was able to work in a team of 6 and gained a ton of experience in the field of Human Resources. My workplace was extremely diverse which was really cool to experience, especially coming from a predominantly white community. The friendships, experience, and everything I had the opportunity to be a part of was amazing and if I could do it all again I would. Thank you to CAPA for providing me with the opportunity!

I miss CAPA London

Learning through CAPA London was the most beneficial experience I could have asked for. The professors were passionate about their classes and made the syllabus straight forward. I learned far more than I expected and was able to engage in the environment and feel like a part of the culture in London. I discovered a lot about myself and came home the best version of myself that I could be. I honestly felt like a resident of the city by the time I was leaving. It felt like I was leaving home when I was returning to the United States.

Lovely London

CEA London was challenging, incredibly beautiful, and the trip of a lifetime. London was the perfect destination for me considering my criminal justice major. The city is the birthplace of everything that makes the criminal justice system was founded from. London is also a hotpot of cultures ready to push me out of my small town comfort zone.

The CEA staff in London were always accommodating, truly listened, and cared for us while we were there. I can't believe what they had on their plate. It all seemed effortless from our end. We witnessed the hiccups they had to deal with and accommodate, through no fault of their own, with ease.

I was placed in a huge flat with four other girls in a two bedroom/two bathroom. Our placement was providential! I was in a room with Megan and we got along famously. Along with the three girls in the other room we had almost NO snags when it came to getting along. We often did things together and remained connected afterward.

I cannot say enough how the excursions included really rounded out the study abroad experience. Musicals in Piccadilly Circus, Jack the Ripper walk, boat tours, grand skyscraper views, museum tours, and more! This freed my time to try and make real connections with the community in London. I didn't have to worry I may be missing out on tourist destinations. I made real connections with Londoners that will last a lifetime. Even though the culture of the area can be standoffish once you break through their shyness it is rewarding.

The academics through CEA were intellectually invigorating. The teachers were top notch. The outings included within those courses were also very stimulating culturally as well as intellectually.

What would you improve about this program?
The only uncertain moments were before leaving for London. I wasn't sure of who I would be with, where I would be living, or whether courses I signed up for would be changed (more on the LSBU side than CEA). More predepature information before leaving would ease minds. This information was given before I left but it was almost directly before. I wanted to be extra cautious and premap out routes to better understand how much bus fair and such would be. Where I would buy things.. etc. Just extra assurance.

A New Outlook on Life

Before going on this program, I have never been out of the country before. coming into this program was a nerve racking yet exciting experience. I love London and everything the city has to offer. CAPA did a great job of making us feel welcome and allowing us to be independent while also helping us to navigate the city. All in all, I would say that study abroad has been a huge commitment but I think it was definitely worth it. the friends and memories I have made in my short time here are something I never want to forgot. I am excited to share my experiences and memories with you all while I continue on this amazing journey.

CEA London Review: Best Decision I've Ever Made

This past semester has been the best four months of my life. From the the academics to excursions, CEA really hit it out of the park. First, the application process was quick and painless. The domestic staff did a fantastic job of checking up on you and sending you reminders. Second, the on-site staff were both friendly and supportive throughout the semester. Cassandra (the program director) is so great. When I first arrived, she explained how to navigate the tube/public transit, where to buy food, and where to get bedding; which gave me a good amount of confidence in navigating a new city. In addition, there were a lot of activities throughout the week to keep us engaged. Overall, if you're looking to study abroad, there is no better option than CEA.

Spring Semester in London

I absolutely loved my time abroad with CEA. Cassandra was so amazing and made everyone feel so comfortable. I went without knowing anyone so it was extremely comforting to know that I always had someone just a call away. London was the perfect place to study abroad and the CEA location kept us right in the center of the city so it was extremely easy to get anywhere! Going abroad with CEA also introduced me to so many people; I made great friends through the program and they still are some of my best friends.

The events and trips that are included in the program are very worthwhile. While I was there we did a weekend trip to York, a West End night where we saw Phantom of the Opera, a bus tour around the city, a scavenger hunt, a walking tour of Soho, a day trip to Stonehenge and Bath, a day trip to Oxford, and more! They are all things that should be taken advantage of and most of the program goes on them which is really fun!

Capa is more then a study abroad program

I studied abroad during Fall 2017 in London through the CAPA program. CAPA supplied me with a fantastic crew of supportive teachers and faculty, who helped me navigate London. I found my own path there and, in a way, discovered who I am. I am forever grateful for the people I met and the time I spent in London. I'm not one to encourage people to do anything. I would encourage anyone who wants to study abroad to do it through CAPA. The supply everything you need to have an amazing time, discover who you are, and learn. If I could go back to London tomorrow, I would. The program gives you three-day weekend, so you can go to other parts of Europe and explore. I went to Greece, Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium and many other countries. In each place I discovered something new, made new friends, and saw places and things I didn't dream I would ever see. CAPA is more than a study abroad program it's a transformative experience that will hold some of your greatest life memories.

Interning and Studying Abroad Changed me Personally and Professionally!

This program helped me grow so much. I gained confidence both personally and professionally. The internship has helped me land other internships since being back and has made me confident in what I would like to do in the future. I am also now much more confident in speaking to people from all over!

I loved the educational experience I had here! I was able to complete required classes for my Supply Chain Management major, such as economics and supply chain, but they had a global twist to them! Apart from that my internship counted for credit and I was able to take a fun class: pop-culture in the UK! All of my classes included 1 or more field trips in the surrounding London area!

The administration was super helpful! There was always someone at the desk when I arrived at CAPA to help me with places to eat, things to do, doctors appointments and many other things! The administrative team planned outings for all of CAPA students to attend. They were extremely helpful and supportive throughout the entire process.

The living was overall very satisfactory. I loved my roomates and the flat itself was super cute! The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star review is because it was very small, but what can you expect when living in nearly the center of a huge city! The proximity to the Tube and grocery stores were a definite plus. I'd live in my flat again in a heartbeat

For the most part I felt very safe. My specific flat location would recieve a 5 star review on safety, however, London is a large city and like most large cities it does have its sketchy areas. Be aware of this and make sure you know where you are going to end up!

London is an expensive city. Be prepared for that when you come. There are definitely ways to save though, such as not eating out constantly or enjoying free activities like walks through Hyde Park!

I would absolutely study here again!!
