Great working experience abroad

This program was the perfect way for me to go abroad after I graduated. I knew I wanted to travel but also use my degree, and GE found me a great internship that strengthened my skills and had me develop skills I only would've gotten from working abroad. The housing was set up very nicely and I always felt safe and answered to when there were any questions or concerned. They offer you free outside activities as well like bike tours, cooking classes and much more to help you experience Italian culture and do things you wouldn't have thought of doing yourself. If you are on the fence about whether this is a good idea for you, you have to go for it! It will push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to be independent but you will be so thankful for everything you've accomplished thereafter and will come back with lifelong friends and memories and GE made this happen!

Most Amazing Experience Abroad!

I had the most amazing experience in Europe through the Global Experiences program! They found me the most AMAZING internship that I learned SO MUCH from. I loved my placement so much, I made so many lifelong friends and so many connections in the fashion industry. The program definitely will help to excel me in my future career. My resume looks so diverse now and my employer in Milan offered to write me an amazing letter of recommendation. My employer even took me to Paris Fashion Week! I had so much responsibility at my internship. I gained so many skills and learned so much about the fashion world abroad, which I never would have been able to do without the help of Global Experiences. My apartment was conveniently located and we had a grocery store right next to our place. Global Experiences was there to help whenever I had any issues, whether it be with my job or with my life in Milan. They planned a few amazing day trips to different parts off Italy. Overall I had an amazing experience and would definitely reccomend.

Best Experience Ever!

I've always wanted to study abroad. But when I found out freshman year of college I could intern abroad, this really stood out to me. I had always thought about it since I started college but never thought it would actually happen. I applied on a whim, and it was the best thing I could have ever done. From the beginning to the end, Global Experiences makes you feel safe and really takes into consideration what you are looking to get out of this experience. They placed me in the perfect internship. My office was fun and lively. I learned so much on the job that I plan to use in my career. I am beyond grateful for this experience and if anyone is unsure if they should do it--you should! I can guarantee that you will not regret it! Not only will you learn so much, but you will have the opportunity to travel, make new friends from all over the world, and really immerse yourself in another culture. Even better, if you're looking for a resume booster, this is it!

What would you improve about this program?
Our Location Coordinator was new, causing a couple hiccups. They need to help her smooth out this issues or find someone that fits better.

Best experience!

I decided to intern abroad as a segway into the working world as I just graduated college in May. I am so happy I did! A lot can be said for immersing yourself into the working world in another culture. You learn so much about their culture, more so than you would if you were just studying abroad, since you're interacting and working with Italians every day. The staff is very helpful and always at your disposal if you need them. They also schedule social events which get your program together to bond & see more of a local side of your experience! Our program had a few dinners, day trips, and activities such as a cooking class. It is really nice and fun because they are things that you may not typically do by yourself but your program provides it for you. I really enjoyed my experience and wish it didn't end so soon! I would definitely recommend this to anyone!!

Studying Abroad Saved My Life

I decided to study abroad spring of my sophomore year of college. I had always wanted to, and it was something I considered when looking at colleges. My sophomore year was incredibly challenging. I had a heavy class schedule and was involved all over campus. I began to lose myself in all of it. I needed a break. So I decided to study abroad to get away, explore a new place, and most importantly, find myself again. I knew I wanted to go to Italy, since that's where my family originates from. I met with the study abroad office on campus, picked my program and made it happen. I fully believe it was the best decision I've ever made, to study abroad. I met so many new friends, traveled to some beautiful places and was able to do some soul searching. I had never been to Europe before so I definitely took advantage of that, traveling to six new countries. I was ahead of required course at my home university so I took class in Italy that allowed me to indulge in the culture of my new home. Being away from home and my friends at school allowed me to focus on myself and focus on what I needed. It allowed me to appreciate the connections I did have at home, and give attention to the areas that may have needed growth. I allowed myself to be selfish that semester. I did not only what I needed to do, but what I wanted to do. I had been so caught up in the pressures of work and school at home that I had forgotten how to enjoy myself. I can remember my trip to Cinque Terre. When I stepped off the train into the sunlight, could smell the ocean, I was so overwhelmed with so much happiness, I actually teared up a little. I couldn't remember the last time I was that happy. Studying abroad really allowed me to come full circle and fall in love with school and life again.

What would you improve about this program?
Everything was perfect. I just wanted to travel more and more. If they could build more excursions into the included trips it would only make it better. I never wanted to stop traveling.

Rome: The Eternal City

Ciao! My name is Amie and I studied abroad in Rome, Italy in the Spring of 2018. I went through the program AIFS and was not disappointed! From the pre-departure process to my arrival back in the US, I felt that I was constantly helped with each new experience. As for the location, Rome is an amazing city. Everywhere you go, you are surrounded by art. Also, while observing the Colosseum or the Vatican you are surrounded by a cultural mix to people who are Italian and foreign.
While in Rome, I spent the semester living in Prati which is one of the safest parts of Rome. I lived in an apartment with five other students. I enjoyed the apartment, but I also heard awesome reviews about living in homestays. I attended classes Monday through Thursday at Richmond in Rome. The study center was small, but coming from a smaller university at home, it was comforting. Richmond in Rome was in a very central location, surrounded by restaurants and back to back with the famous Piazza Navona. Grabbing a cornetto (croissant) at the local breakfast place before a photography class will forever be one of my favorite past times. Besides taking classes AIFS also had given me the opportunity to volunteer at a primary school. There I taught English to third graders. All in all, AIFS added a lot of positivity to my study abroad experience. As for Rome, it will eternally be a place I call home, where beauty lurks on every corner and friendships, will last a lifetime.

Showroom Internship in Milan

If you're debating whether or not to Intern in Milan, you absolutely should!! This was a one of a kind experience and I wouldn't trade it for the world. To be honest I was a little skeptical about my internship at first, but after about the first week and a half, I started to get the hang of things and was able to learn a lot from my internship. Living in Milan was absolutely incredible. Most of the interns are housed near the canal which has awesome restaurants, nightlife, and everything you need in walking distance. Milan is also the perfect location for weekend trips-- Lake Como, France, Switzerland, and all throughout Italy. If you're on the edge of whether or not to intern abroad you absolutely should; you will not regret it.

What would you improve about this program?
Better housing (I know they were working on this when I left since some people had issues with WaysItalia). I didn't have a ton of issues with mine besides the fact that it was really dirty when I arrived.

Amazing internship in Florence

My time here in Florence was everything I had hoped for and more! I may have only been here for a matter of two months, but the amount that I've grown both personally and professionally has been immeasurable. Not only have I learned so many technical skills that I can use to market myself for future jobs and internships, but I've also had to become comfortable navigating a foreign country for the better part of this summer. On top of that, I've made so many close, amazing friends in both my office and my GE program, and I can't believe I only have a little less than a week left with them. This program has been absolutely amazing for me, and the program organizers have helped make this the best summer of my life. If you're looking for a chance to expand your work experience and marketability and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to actually live in a foreign country, then this is definitely the program for you.
