Above and Beyond

Rome has changed my life forever. Having to immerse oneself in a culture where virtually NO things are American tends to be challenging, for me it was a welcome challenge. I loved trying to speak Italian with shop owners and waiter, I loved seeing grown men and women ordering gelato at 10 AM simply because they wanted it. Seeing "la dolce far niente" played out every day was a blessing, and has changed my personal views on life forever. I am back in the States doing the same old things, but the way that I feel about them and see them has changed forever. Rome changed my life, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

What would you improve about this program?
More trips around Italy and maybe one other gelato workshop!

SAI is fun, helpful, and knows italy

SAI offers tons of FREE day and weekend trips that would cost at least $50 each if you were to do them on your own. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE! The staff is always available to answer questions regarding anything at all. My only complaint was the quality of my apartment, but its location was unbeatable.

Amazing Semester Abroad at JCU

JCU was great. The classes were moderate as far as difficulty goes, it really just depends on what classes you take. The school and apartments they put you up in are in Trastevere which is one of THE BEST neighborhoods in Rome. It is extremely safe, there are security guards all over. The cafeteria food was pretty good, especially the croissants and cappuccinos for breakfast. The apartments are nice and big, small kitchen but that's to be expected. No Friday class ever!! But also no fall break like some other universities have. Overall though, it's an amazing place and I would 100% recommend studying abroad at JCU in Rome.

What would you improve about this program?
Fall break would be great

Best Experience of My Life!

The way of life living in Italy was so much more laid back and relaxed than anything I have ever experienced in the United States. We would have time to socialize with locals over cappuccinos, see the sights, taste the food, and explore the rest of Europe. The relationships I made with the other SAI students and staff made my experience incredible and worth while. The entire experience was amazing and I loved every second of it!

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked to have SAI help with the transition period because the culture shock was really intense and hard to cope with.

Can't Imagine Rome without SAI

SAI greatly enhanced my experience in Rome. They provide so much support and are always there to answer any questions you may have. They organize events (cooking lessons, opera and ballet night, hiking and bike tours, weekend trip to Tuscany) that allow you to make new friends and get closer to your old ones. When planning one of my first trips, I had no idea how the train system worked. But one of the SAI employees took the time to sit down and help me figure it out. I also had to cancel my hostel reservation but was worried that there would be a language barrier that would make it difficult to cancel the reservation. I asked an SAI employee to make the call for me and they were happy to do it. Whenever I contacted them outside the office, they were very prompt and return my emails/calls/text quickly. I always felt like I was being looked after. I couldn't recommend SAI more! My study abroad experience was so much better because of them and I am so thankful for them being here for me from the beginning to the end. Thanks SAI!

SAI: Rome at John Cabot University

Everyday was a new adventure and even when coming home from class. I was able to explore and take advantage of the available SAI programs they offered. My days included walking to class and taking in the scenery and finding new outlets such as running in the park.

What would you improve about this program?
I would look to give students metra passes for their transportation here during the semester.

Best program in Rome

This program has everything you need, without being overbearing at all. They are there for help with doctors, classes, housing, etc. and always provide amazing support round the clock. Very reliable and qualified.

What would you improve about this program?
Plan more social events mid-week, because if I travel on the weekends I can't make it to the cooking class or wine tasting, etc.

Questions & Answers

Sai offers premium housing every semester that offers a more central location and often newer interiors. It does cost extra money, but those are the best apartments. However, all the apartments are great! Sai does a great job of getting apartments in the area and they're all nice. The farther you get from JCU usually the larger the apartments. The closer you are normally it's slightly less space...

Apartments are located all over the neighborhood Trastevere which is where John Cabot is located. They're all totally different and some are two blocks away while others are a little over a mile. My apartment was one of the farther ones, but I was still able to walk there in fifteen minutes without taking any public transportation. Everyone had between 4-5 people total living in their house. I...
