Questions & Answers

Apart from what the others have already suggested, I would also advise that any travel you intend on doing, you are prepared to leave until you've finished or to start beforehand. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful place, and you will certainly have beach time. But don't be fooled! The classes are intensive and require outside-the-classroom prep time. Good luck and have fun!
Thanks so much for your reply. I'd love if you could connect me with them! I'm going to be studying at Maximo in January 2017 and am very keen to teach :)
I would definitely recommend a laptop. You'll need it to work on assignments and lesson plans out of class. The building can get pretty hot, so being able to relocate to cooler locations is a must. Regarding clothes, I wore decent shorts and collared shirts for the classes. For interviews, I would recommend something more business casual.
The cost of the program varies by location and what type of stay you prefer (apartment, hostel, or homestay). I have added a link to the estimated program costs below that you may find helpful. In general, the cost will be somewhere between $2000-$2500, not including your flight. http://www.maximonivel.com/tefl-tesol/prices/

It was AMAZING!

It's my last day of the TEFL course in Costa Rica and it's so bittersweet. The days have been long and hot, but the challenge was so worth it! I've met incredible people and learned so much in such a short time. I can't wait to put my skills to use!

My TEFL trainers Audra and Dani were amazing and truly made this experience what it was. They have really inspired me! I've made lifelong friends and I am so happy that I completed this. It has opened so many doors for me already.

How can this program be improved?

Life Changing

The course in Manuel Antonio is taught by two of the best people I have met on this planet. Audra and Dani are two genuine human beings that take their passion for their jobs to a new level. They find a way to connect with everyone on a deep level, and want to see you succeed as much if not more than you do. They believe in you even if you don't believe in yourself, and will help you though anything. Never once did I felt a lack of support or advice. They practice what they preach and create an environment where you are feel comfortable failing. If you pass the class and want a job you will find a job hands down. I got emails from Audra at 9 PM on a Friday night concerning job opportunities. Outside of the classroom they took the time to educate us on Quepos/Manuel Antonio, and how to take advantage of all the best spots. I was terrified to come to a country I barely spoke the language and had no friends in. Now that the month is over I feel shocked at how fast it went and saddened that it is now over. But I will never forget the friends made and the laughs had. This experience has been life changing and will be something I remember long after I forget my name. Life, Love, and TEFL.

Sweaty, sweaty TEFL

There really aren't enough good things I can say about both Audra and Dani. Right off the bat, Audra was incredibly engaging, full of humor and wit, and has an incredible textbook like knowledge of TEFL and grammar. She made roasting in class every day an absolute pleasure. Dani is one of the most patient, kind, and knowledgeable teachers I have encountered. She is full of life and is one of the kindest souls I know. Both Audra and Dani have hearts of gold, and are amazing teachers, TEFL trainers, and human beings.

Just Do It

This was an absolutely amazing program. The institute, the teachers, my peers were all wonderful. I had a job by the end of the 3rd week of the program, and I feel fully prepared to started teaching in couple weeks. It is certainly as intense as it is advertised, but the support system is great. My host family was excellent and I even had another TEFLer living with me. I'm excited to see where everyone goes next, and I have certainly found life long friends here. Living by the beach didn't hurt either. If you've ever thought about teaching in another country, just do it. By the end of the program, you'll definitely know whether or not it's the right fit for you. I couldn't say better things about my experience here.

Really worth it!

This program is mazing. Starting with highly positive and energetic trainers (Audra and Dani), through relevant and thorough content and finally finishing with unforgettable practical teaching experience. You get to teach locals for 3x20min and 5x60min throughout the course and it gives you the necessary reality check and confidence boost. Course doesn't seem boring or too long/short at any time. Staff is really professional and helpful. Definitely a great experience and worth the money! (Although, it would be nicer if it was a bit cheaper.) Don't hesitate and sign up!

Best idea I've had all year

The team at Maximo can't be faulted. Theyre kind, capable, and heaps of fun to be around! Work hardly seems like work when you're surrounded with people like that, not to mention the beautiful facility you get to spend most of your days in. Prepare to learn all about teaching ESL and learn a few valuable life lessons along the way! Strongly, strongly recommended for anyone looking for an academic adventure!

Baby Boomer

I am 63 years old and just graduated from TEFL class in Manuel Antonio. I have lived here in Manuel Antonio by myself and had blast. People over 50 or 60 should not be intimidated. This is a safe place if you use common sense. The course is hard work, you are not just paying Maximo Nivel to print you a certificate, but you have something worthwhile when you finish! A beautiful beach is close by.

How can this program be improved?
Facility was very hot a lot of the time, then, it is Costa Rica.

Get TEFL certification while living in a beautiful coastal area of Costa Rica

When I confirmed everything with Maximo Nivel and booked my plane tickets I had no idea on whether I can or cannot teach people English because I had no teaching experience and I didn’t know if I had the right way of thinking to be able to teach. A month has passed now and now I can say that I actually can teach because I had my mini lessons and a whole week of actual teaching
At this very moment when I’m writing my Professional Development Paper just hours before our graduation party and looking at a beautiful Costa Rican sunset I can say that this program was fantastic! It is not easy, you will have to work hard, it is an intense program after all ! Upon completing the TEFL course I am ready to roam the world and teach some English to people all around our planet!

Audra is Pretty Chill

I loved my program in Manuel Antonio. The course was very dense and a lot of work, but I learned so much in only four weeks. My TEFL trainer Audra was a dream and a half and the team even helped me line up a job before I graduated. It costs a little more than taking the coursework online or at a school in the United States, but getting to live and work in Costa Rica is well worth it. It is so humid I got to sweat out all my toxins and then some, but I really enjoyed working with the Maximo Nivel team.

I would highly recommend coming to Manuel Antonio to get a TEFL certification. Audra Wooldridge, the instructor is absolutely wonderful and is always available to help. The course is rigorous and prepares you extremely well for the next phase of English teaching. Come prepared to learn a whole different style of teaching! Manuel Antonio is beautiful and my host family allowed me to practice spanish daily. Highly recommend!

Maximo Nivel is Pura Vida

First of all this course was designed with a travel destination in mind Manuel Antonio is a great place to spend 4 weeks getting certified. In regards to the course itself it is more demanding and intensive than i initially thought it to be. In regards to the client service staff; Karen & Jonno these guys go above and beyond to make your stay here as comfortable as possible and provide all the necessary information needed to make your stay here enjoyable. In regards to the teacher Audra is an amazing soul she makes the classroom time an absolute blast! She lives and breathes TEFL and the style of teaching you learn from her is Top notch!

Por Que No?

This was, hands down, the greatest experience of my entire life. The moment that I stepped foot into Cosi, I felt home. I was greeted by the most amazing staff and the family vibe was contagious. Audra is MAGICAL. By far, the best teacher that I have ever had. I looked forward to class everyday and the bond that was formed between our group members is indescribable. My host family took me in and treated me like I was one of their own. Take a leap of faith and head to Manuel Antonio. Not to mention, you literally live in paradise. PURA VIDA MAE!

Quality program and a great experience

Audra, the lead trainer, and the rest of the staff at Maximo are all great! They are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Audra brings great energy into the classroom and it's very evident that she's been training English teachers for some time.

The Manuel Antonio area is beautiful with plenty of nature to see and cool people to meet. Maximo also offers plenty of work/volunteer/class options if you want to stick around after the course has ended.

The course is challenging but worth the time and effort. I feel confident and capable of teaching English learners, and that is what's most important.

Great experience overall!

You'll Learn A Lot!

This course can be intense but I learned a lot of good stuff about teaching English and I definitely feel more prepared. Our instructor Audra had a ton of energy and did a great job teaching the course! We even had fun during grammar week! The rest of the staff is friendly and free coffee is always appreciated. Manual Antonio is beautiful but rather small so take advantage of the days off and visit other parts of Costa Rica if you can.

Everything about this program is AMAZING!!!

If you want an amazing and super fun TEFL experience, Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio is the place to go for training! My trainer Audra Wooldridge is an incredible trainer!! She really cares about her students and makes class super entertaining and fun so you actually WANT to go to class every day! She literally eats, breaths, and TEFLs. Lol! Another great thing about Audra as my trainer is that she absolutely LOVES her job and knows the material inside and out! I just finished the course and feel as though I am knowledgeable and prepared enough to be on my own in a classroom teaching people English. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone looking to be an English teacher abroad!
