TEFL with ITA: Highly Recommended!

My experience with ITA was excellent. The admissions team was very supportive helping me find a program type that was right for me. I elected to get my certification in Costa Rica through their partner. The instructors were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and supportive. They were very realistic about what expectations were for finding a job and helped us a ton with resources. The course really prepared me for what I would be doing in the classroom. The instructions had a lot of experience and shared their knowledge.

I didn’t use it as much as I should have but the support after the course from ITA and the alumni network was great. The alumni network is really big and I was able to help other graduates of the program find jobs in Costa Rica as well.

Pros
  • Experienced instructors
  • Alumni network
  • Job search support

Invest in your career

After teaching English for a while without formal training, I decided seek formal training in TEFL. It made all the difference. Despite having earned a degree in journalism, and feeling confident to navigate the maze of the English language, formal TEFL training helped enormously. Most useful for me was the class management component of the course. I now have the skills to plan, teach and control my classes much better than previously. My classes are now more predictable, relaxed and fun.
The course was challenging, but tutors were attentive and very helpful. I enjoyed the course, and now enjoy teaching much more than before I obtained the training.
The TEFL certificate is indeed a ticket to ride.

Pros
  • Formal recognition to teach English internationally.
  • Confidence to teach, knowing that you are doing it right.
  • Makes teaching less stressful and more fun.
Cons
  • This course is not cheap.
  • Deadlines for course submissions are tight, and can be stress inducing.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review from ITA. It's great to hear from somebody who taught English without a TEFL certification about how taking course has really taken your skills to the next level. We love to see that!

TEFL Course

I was excited, but hesitant to sign up for the TEFL course from ITA, but after speaking to my advisor, it was a very easy and happy decision. My course instructor was amazing and thorough. I loved the feedback from the course assignments, as well as the forum postings from colleagues. It was a challenging, but very enjoyable course to take. It had me thinking and learning new things the entire course. I signed up for more specialty courses too! Very excited to take those this summer. I recommend.

Pros
  • Great platform
  • In depth assignments
  • Great feedback from my instructor
Cons
  • need to know how to time manage with a full time job
  • some assignments were lengthy, but worth it
  • cost was a little high, but worth it

International TEFL Academy

Great support with knowledgeable faculty and staff. Kind and friendly communiry of persons from around the all. All which who possess the willingness to understand those who they serve. I think TEFL Acadmey ought to have a gain more prestige, and partner with EFL and ESL programs within higher education institutions. Particularly, on a graduate level. I believe there can many who benefit from its courses. However, my most favorite attribute is the community I’ve gained and retained -— that’s my greatest highlight as a TEFL alumna.

TEFL Certificate

The TEFL course helped me get a teaching job in China and has opened doors for me in the education field. I started teaching oral English at a university with low pay, but after two years, and some experience I nearly doubled my pay at a English training center. Having four years of teaching English in China; it opened the doors to teach at an international school. My pay significantly higher than at the training center. I started as an ESL teacher and now I'm exploring a position as a librarian.

Pros
  • You can get a teaching job in developing countries.
Cons
  • More guidance in teaching grammar and parts of speech would be invaluable.

International TEFL Academy is terrific

Because I love both language and travel, teaching ESL affords me a great way to share my expertise and help people personally and professionally.
International TEFL Academy gave me a way to study online during the pandemic, and my teacher and the materials the school provided were first-rate.
Since then, I've worked remotely for a school for business professionals in Costa Rica, as well as tutoring school-age children who recently moved to the U.S. from overseas.
ITA is a great place to learn.

Excellent Preparatory Course and Great Included Resources

Despite being an online course, I felt very engaged by both the material and my instructor's teaching approach. Each week, he would send updates on lesson plans, tips on how to 'ace' each assignment, and times he would be available for additional, free lessons. Overall, this course prepared me to become a teacher of English, and added onto my undergraduate degrees I already had obtained. I've received several job offers already, due to ITA's reputation and my teaching ability this class gave me.

Pros
  • Engaging Video lessons to accompany the textbook
  • Discussion forums with fellow students
  • Incredible support / job guidance after the program
Cons
  • Only online learning
  • Rare technical difficulty with assignment submission
