An unforgettable experience

The highlights for me were being immersed in the local culture and community, meeting people of all backgrounds, trying something new everyday, exploring rural Thailand, the bonds made with the local people and students as well as with the people I was on the programme with.
It is a great chance to travel and experience the real side of a country as well as meeting new people and improving your confidence all on a budget whilst helping improve students English which is rewarding.
It has grown my confidence to travel independently, meet new new people, it has also made me more self confident and more conscious of how different societies work around the world.

Pros
  • Builds confidence for travelling and meeting people
  • Full Cultural immersion
  • Interpersonal communication

Outstanding experience

Most organisations require you to pay to be a volunteer teacher, which doesn't really make sense. Gotoco is fully funded. They provide training, cultural activities, a 4-6 week placement and a post placement trip. It's actually unbelievable how good a deal you get.

I was placed in a school in rural Thailand where English proficiency was really low. This meant I was able to make a real impact on the students and to give them motivation to study English, since they don't see any English speaking tourists in that part of the country. It also meant i got to see the real Thailand beyond the beaten tourist track. Gotoco made sure that the accomodation and food at the partner school were to standard and provided a constant support network so I had nothing to worry about. Our hosts were lovely too, showing us around and making us feel comfortable.

I cannot recommend this enough. There's something in it for everyone - teaching experience, a safe route into travelling south east Asia, cultural exchange and more.

Pros
  • Independence
  • Support network
  • Cultural immersion

Gotoco: Teaching in Thailand for 6 weeks

It was a really fun and unique experience which has taught me useful skills for the future. With this experience I was definitely pushed out of my comfort zone in more. ways than one, however it left me learning more about myself than I'd expected, and even pushed me to adapt to environments I wouldn't necessarily find myself in. Furthermore I felt really welcomed by my host and school, the hospitality of Thai people is amazing, they are really kind-natured people. In addition to this the trip at the end of the programme was really enjoyable.

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Having liberty to explore
  • The students and Thai people in general
Cons
  • The Tesol is released in quite an inconvenient way

THE BEST EXPERIENCE

I had the most wonderful time with GOTOCO this summer, it sounded phenomenal and something that I never thought I'd have the opportunity to do because of finance so the fact this is so accessible being fully funded was insane. It was such a incredible experience, particularly loved the teaching side. I had taught before and thought it wasn't for me but the way the children and locals welcomed me into the school and community gave me so much confidence to push myself and it made me adore the teaching and the bonds made with the kids. BALI is stunning and i cannot believe i had the opportunity to stay here for 2 months with such a great organisation. FOR FREEEEEEEE

Pros
  • Cheap and accesible
  • Making friends
  • Learning about the culture
Cons
  • Literally just the jet lag haha
  • Rabies Vaccine was expensive

Gotoco - Poland (Warsaw and Krakow)

My adventure with GOTOCO was brilliant! From the beginning, the staff were extremely helpful and efficient with sharing updates concerning the upcoming trip. Funding provided by my university and additional stipends from GOTOCO allowed me to take on this educational adventure free of charge. The itinerary allowed me to meet peers with the same interests regarding teaching abroad. Group activities such as group meals, day trips to the Salt Mines and shared accommodation created a close knit bond between all my peers. I have made connections that I will hold on to for the rest of my life and gained a certification that will also advance job opportunities in the future!

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Immersing oneself into a new culture
  • Obtaining TEFL certification
Cons
  • Food could be better

Would recommend

I had a great experience as an English teacher at a summer camp on Gotoco’s Thailand programme. This was an amazing opportunity to travel and explore Thailand, as well as gaining experience and confidence in teaching. We were taken on a few trips and cultural experiences during our time in Thailand, which were a great way to explore the country. The end of programme trip to Koh Samet was a great experience and a lovely way to relax after a busy schedule during the camp. I would definitely recommend Gotoco to others.

Gotoco Spain

I would reccomend gotoco because they really made me feel comfortable throughout the whole trip, the communication between the coordinators and us both before arrival and during the trip made everything run amazingly

I believe this programme has benefitted me massively, I have social anxiety and really believed I may struggle on this experience however I think I actually thrived, my confidence has grown tenfold, I now feel comfortable meeting new people, leading group activities and speaking infront of a group which I really struggled with previously

Pros
  • Learning
  • Meeting new people
  • Confidence
