Great experience!

This was my second time volunteering in Bali with IVHQ and it was just as great as the first time. The first time I stayed for three months and made friends from all over the world, including the coordinators, which is why I just had to go back this year and visit them. Even the kitchen staff still remembered me and vere super excited to see me, which was absolutely heartwarming.
Last time I had a lot of questions about safety, visa application, etc. and the IVHQ Team was very helpful, friendly and quick to respond. This time I was fairly relaxed as I already knew everything but I was checked- in on and genuinely felt like they wanted me to enjoy the experience and feel save, which I definetely did! Loved it and will be going back as soon as possible!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Please don't expect a five-star hotel when you get there. I know it seems obvious when you go volunteering abroad but somehow people still managed to come there with completely ridiculous expectations. The accomodation is clean and exactly as described on the website, if not nicer. Just read the description on the website and then you will have realistic expectations and have an amazing time! You're on a beautiful island so just be excited!

Best investment of your time and money!

I had been wanting to travel internationally for a long time and wanted to do something meaningful while I was there. IVHQ offered so many different program options in tons of different countries - all places I wanted to visit too! They were quick to answer any emails with any questions I had along the way. Best of all, of the bunch of volunteer abroad organizations that I researched, IVHQ offered the lowest program fees I could find!
I ended up choosing the Turtle Conservation project in Bali! And it was incredible! The accommodations, food, local team, and activities were so much fun! I had enough time to go and explore the islands while also helping the local community! I highly recommend IVHQ and the Turtle Conservation program! The memories I’ve made and the fulfillment I feel is unbeatable!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Definitely opt for the orientation week option! Such a great way to learn about the country you’re a guest in.

Amazing Experience!!

I had an amazing experience volunteering abroad with IVHQ. Everyone from my co-volunteers, coordinators, cooks, drivers, and kindergarten students were so incredibly kind and genuine. In particular, I found that this trip was the ideal combination and balance of volunteering and travelling. The volunteer aspect, in which I worked with children in a kindergarten, was incredibly rewarding and definetly the highlight of my trip. On my free time, I was able to see many different parts of the island and even got to travel to nearby islands on the weekend. IVHQ does a great job of accommodating to students desires to both volunteer and travel. After having such a great experience on my first IVHQ trip to Bali, I am very eager to have the opportunity to go on another IVHQ volunteer abroad trip.

First and awesome volunteering experience with IVHQ

Volunteering abroad to a new country, with a completely different culture, seem very challenging and risky, but it is definitely one of the best decisions I have taken in my life.
It was my first time volunteering abroad, therefore it was a little bit scary but thrilling at the same time. However, IVHQ made it seem very easy and safe with its assistance from the day I reserved my place online till the end of my volunteering program.
My volunteer experience in Ubud, Bali, with IVHQ, was an awesome journey. It gave me the opportunity to visit a beautiful city, while immersing myself in its culture. During this period, I felt useful because I was actually contributing to the enhancement of other people's lives. Finally, volunteering allowed me to develop long-lasting friendships with amazing people from all over the world.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of it!
Contribute, visit and socialize as much as you can.

First time Volunteering

This was my first time volunteering overseas and I enjoyed it!
The IVHQ website was a huge asset to help get me prepared. It told me how to prepare before the trip and offered suggestions for scheduling flights and purchasing travel insurance.
The tabs gave me great insight into my accommodations and meals.
From being picked up at the Denpasar airport to arriving in Bali...everything went smoothly and as anticipated.
My room was very clean. The food was fresh and delicious. Taxi assistance in front of the main building was super convenient. Everyone at Green Lion was very friendly and always willing to help.
Vivi, Tirti were excellent coordinators. The program sessions were timed well and always packed with interesting information. We felt confident making basic communication with the local people.
Nusa Penida was as expected but clean and comfortable. The food was even better on the island.
Ketut, Intan, Agus made my trip so very special.
I loved the music, the get togethers, the free time and of course working with the sea turtles.

What would you improve about this program?
Programs could always improve but I can not think of any recommendations at this time.

Bali

I volunteered in ubud for 7 weeks, 6weeks in Ubud in the construction program, and 1 week in Nusa Penida at turtle conservation.
During the construction program I learned how to mix concrete, lay bricks, plaster and so much more while working with locals and other volunteers. In Nusa Penida we got to catch grab, feed the turtles and clean their tanks, participate in beach cleanings, and it was the best because we also got to see the beautiful island.
It was definitely one of the most amazing experience of my life. The island is filled with adventures and with the most amazing nature and sunset I’ve ever seen. I also met so many amazing people from all over the world who taught me so much more than just building or taking care of turtles. The staff, coordinators, cooks, and drivers are so warm and welcoming that they became my family in no time. I am truly greatful to have had the opportunity to volunteer through green lion and ivhq in Bali, i would do it a million times over. Suksma🙏🏽

What was your funniest moment?
Most of the funniest moments revolves around the unpredictable rain, because when it rains in Bali, it reallyyyyy rains. All those moments trying to find shelter from the rain were filled with those laughs that make your abs hurt

100% recommend this program!

The 2 months I spent in Bali volunteering were the best and happiest 2 months of my life. I’ve taken away with me so many incredible life lessons and have grown so much as an individual. I have made friends for life some of which I now consider best friends and I cherish every moment I got to spend with these kind souls. The children I taught really did open my eyes and even though I was the one teaching them, I feel like I learnt a lot more then they did. I grew to love the kids I taught and the happiness they had just shone through no matter their circumstances. I am so privileged to have met such incredible and inspiring people from so many different walks of life. I 100% recommend this experience to everyone that has the chance to do it. It really will change your life!

Bali is amazing!

Volunteering in Bali, Indonesia on the sea turtle conservation program was very very fun and life changing. Getting to work so up close with those beautiful creatures was so amazing. Being an ecology major, this experience made me want to pursue what I am doing even more than I already did. Twice a day, you clean turtle tanks, clean turtles, feed them, and catch crabs and clean the beach! I felt like I was making a true impact. However, I do wish that there was more scientific validation behind the program. My program manager addressed my concerns and plans to talk with the coordinators about that. The first week was an amazing orientation in which we were exposed to Balinese culture and got to visit some really neat sites. We had the weekends to ourselves to go explore anything we wanted to see. Overall, Bali is a must in terms of traveling and volunteering. You won’t be disappointed

What would you improve about this program?
Despite the fun experience working with the turtles, i wish there was more scientific validation behind the program.

Response from International Volunteer HQ - IVHQ

Thank you Katarina for your feedback. I am glad this experience has encouraged you to pursue your ecology path even more. Thank you as well for your comment in regards to the scientific validation. We are currently working on providing more information about the impact on the Turtle population in the area. You can be assured every little bit helps. Lena - IVHQ Program Manager.

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
