My Balinese Experience

Volunteering in Bali with IVHQ is definitely one of the best experiences Ive had. It really went beyond my expectations. Getting to immerse and help the locals, was incredibly amazing, people are so nice and unique. Getting to help the locals, ends up having a greater impact on yourself, I learned and grew spiritually thanks to all the people Ive met. Bali is really a paradise as well as all of their people. The teaching program was increidble and getting to interact with kids that were so grateful was amazing! What I loved the most was the energy and attitude of volunteers and locals to make the best out of everything. IVHQ, makes the whole experience so organized and perfect, staff was always available and ready to help! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a volunteer experience, and I can assure you it will leave you a lifelong mark!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most amazing thing about this program is the local community. They are all good and dedicated persons! Apart from the people, Bali is so beautiful and amazing, there are so many activities like hiking, surfing, and rafting that can be done in breathtaking views!

Best experience

I am sajy thamine, a 21 years old lebanese girl.
I volunteered in the construction and renovation program in bali-lovina
It’s definitely my best experience so far, where i had the chance to meet new people from all over the world, i had the chance to work on myself and to contribute in helping to build a better environment for kids at schools. Volunteering and helping others is a great feeling. Seeing the kids smile after our hardwork is such a rewarding experience. Everyone should try to experience at some point they will never regret it.
I really enjoyed the whole experience, therefore I extended an extra week.
I am so sad that i have to leave, it’s sad because i really felt at home with my family ( all the new friends and the green lion team were the best)
I will definitely come back again and enjoy another experience with ivhq since what better way to explore a new country just by helping the community and meet new people?

I <3 Bali

I did an IVHQ program in Bali Indonesia. I was abroad for a month, and it was by far the funnest most life changing month of my life. I volunteered at a turtle conservation center on Nusa Penida, one of the most magical places I have ever been. The coordinators were some of the nicest most passionate people I have ever met. They are knowledgeable about what they do, helped you at every turn, and were always there if you needed something or had a question. The experience is absolutely magical I would recommend volunteering to any traveler of any age. Volunteering is a great way to immerse yourself into the culture of your destination. Once my month was over I didn’t want to leave at all, even being home now all I can think about is planning my next trip to go on my next adventure. I believe that traveling can be for anyone and it can change your life for the better if you have the right mind set. Thank you IVHQ for being such a incredible resource for traveling!

Bali - Unbelievable Experience!

What an amazing experience.
I don't even know where to start with my time spent in Bali.
The wonderful local people who taught me about happiness and seizing each day; my students who were motivated and so kind; the breathtaking scenery; my friends I made from around the world who i volunteered and travelled with; the amazing, supporting IVHQ staff members.
All this was made possible and so easy with IVHQ, and I would highly recommend any trips with them - especially to Bali.
Upon arrival in Bali I was made so comfortable and this was maintained throughout my entire trip - I've never met such generous, kind, people.
It truly was a once in a lifetime experience, and a life-changing one at that.
I hope to one day be able to travel and volunteer with IVHQ again!

IVHQ Bali

Volunteering in Bali through IVHQ was truly a life changing experience. It was my first time traveling alone, and I was petrified to fly across the world and step out of my comfort zone. However, upon arriving, all of my worries subsided. The Green Lion crew was so welcoming and accommodating, I immediately felt at home. Over the next week, I had the opportunity to get to know many of the other wonderful IVHQ volunteers and coordinators, as well as experience complete immersion in Indonesian culture. Orientation week was very well organized and filled with fun activities, such as Bahasa language lessons, traditional cooking classes, and visiting the Ubud monkey forest. The accommodation exceeded my expectations -- our rooms were cleaned daily, there was a pool, and delicious Indonesian food was served buffet style three times a day. My second week was spent in Nusa Penida working on the turtle conservation project. We got to experience a more local way of life while caring for endangered species of sea turtle. Our days would consist of cleaning tanks, feeding the turtles, beach cleaning, and crab catching. In the evening, many of the volunteers would relax at the beachside Young Coconut Cafe to watch the sunset. Overall, my IVHQ experience left me with new friendships and a new perspective. I look forward to my next volunteering abroad adventure!

What would you improve about this program?
It could be more cost-effective, and more of the money could be directed towards the community rather than the volunteer organization.

Meaningful travel!

I highly recommend IVHQ's teaching English program in Ubud. I loved teaching English and healthcare to local children. It's such a special way of travelling and learning about cultures and I met so many great people along the way. I loved sharing my own culture and getting to know the kids. There was also a great orientation program beforehand which involved cooking and cultural tours. I chose to have my own accomodation rather than stay with the other volunteers and while it cost a little bit more, I appreciated time on my own. I loved visiting the holy water temple.

Better organisation of education resources so incoming volunteers aren't repeating lessons.

Ubud Bali.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience volunteering with IVHQ in Ubud, Bali.
The program was extremely organised prior and throughout my experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed the orientation week that we had the opportunity to experience. I felt that I was able to experience a completely different side of the country than if I was simply a tourist.
I enjoyed the wide range of activities and experiences that we undertook throughout the week. This included Batik painting lessons, visits to the temple, walks around the rice field, language lessons and much more.
The language lessons were particularly valuable as I was able to use my knowledge when out at the local markets and in town. The locals were impressed with our knowledge of the language.
I felt through this orientation I saw a side to Bali that most people travelling there are not lucky enough to experience.

The staff at Green Lion Bali were not simply staff who worked there, they became friends. Everyone went out of their way to make all of us feel welcome and part of the community. The accomodation was nice and clean.

The actual volunteering experience was incredible.
I did the teaching project and myself and my friend had a year 4 class. The Green Lion staff were supportive throughout our lessons providing us with translation where appropriate.

The students were extremely eager to learn and extremely intelligent. It felt like we had made a difference.

I am so eager to do another volunteering trip with IVHQ.
It was my first time overseas and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I highly recommend IVHQ as an organisation.

Amazing time at Turtle conservation

My name is Eva, I'm 18 years old and I just finished my 3 months volunteering at the Turtle conservation on Nusa Penida Island. I can honestly say it's been the best three months if my life. From the introduction week in Ubud to the daily volunteering on Nusa I can only say all the staff members I met were absolutely incredible. From the coordinators to the kitchen staff everybody greets you with a smile. ivhq's support was really good, they answered to my Emails super quickly and always encouraged me to ask more questions if I was unsure about something. The only thing I feel could use improvement is the support in getting a visa extension but that really only matters if you plan on staying longer than 60 days and isn't that big of a deal. All in all, I had the most amazing time, I made friends for life with other volunteers and the coordinators there. I am beyond grateful for the experience I've had.

What would you improve about this program?
Obviously making it cheaper would always be welcome. Other than that I mostly would have wanted more support when trying to get my visa extension after 60 days. I was a little stressed out by that.

Hey Eva! Thanks for your review! Awesome that you enjoyed the Turtle Conservation so much! It is great to hear that you were well looked after and felt supported throughout your experience. Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)

Hi Salma, Great to hear that you're interested in volunteering and that your parents are supporting your trip! IVHQ Volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate on our programs. IVHQ requires that all volunteers participating on the program be at least 18 years old. However, if you volunteer with a parent or guardian on the same project as you, you can go at younger than 18.
