Bali turtle conservation

My first time leaving my home country I went to Bali for the turtle conservation for 2 weeks. The volunteer work was so rewarding and being able to see and experience their culture was incredible. The coordinator support was excellent, they will take you wherever you need to go, they make sure youre okay when your sick and take you to the hospital if theres concern because they care about your safety and health. They become a huge experience during your trip and become part of your volunteer family, they are friendly, kind and they will laugh and joke with you. The people you meet there from all over the world are incredibly kind and youll make friends for life. As a young person whose graduated highschool and is going into or is in university this is a great way to spread your wings, make a difference, and make friends with people around your age.

Pros
  • meeting people
  • Rewarding volunteer work
  • learning culture
Cons
  • Food is good but theres times you will not like whats provided

IVHQ - Environmental Education - 3 Weeks

I went to Indonesia, Bali, for my 3 week course on environmental education to teach children. I met amazing people and although the team on the ground were separate from IVHQ they were so so helpful in everything we did and the process for teaching went so smoothly and the whole experience from living arrangements to actually teaching was very easy. There were taxis available almost 24/7 that were specifically for the volunteer house which was very convenient as well and Green Lion (the volunteer house) partnered up with the taxi rank to offer amazing discounts on tours around Bali and had a variety of activities that we were able to book whenever we wanted. The rooms and bathrooms were super clean and were cleaned by Green Lion staff everyday. All in all an amazing experience and I would definitely go again!

Pros
  • Amazing culture
  • Food
  • Clean living arrangements
Cons
  • Teaching hours could be a bit longer

Green Lion Bali Healthcare Education

This was an amazing and fulfilling project that allows you to build connection with the communities in Bali in a way that is mutual rather than invasive. You knew what to expect each day and all the resources you would need from advice to supplies was provided. The staff were amazing and created a friendly and welcoming environment. Additionally, all volunteers shared similar values and goals which made developing friendships very easy. Overall this experience was so rich in culture, experience, and fun that I have already prepared to come again next year.

Pros
  • -unique and fulfilling experience
  • -immerses you into Balinese culture
  • -provides great support and resources for maximum impact
Cons
  • -program ran from 2-5 which was usually cut to 2-4, resulting in limited topics you could cover each day

Green Lion Bali, BEST EXPERIENCE !!

My volunteer experience at Green Lion in Bali was the best decision ever.
Like any person in his first volunteer program, I was scared and had many questions regarding the program, the accommodation, and the food. But all these doubts disappear as soon you arrive there and feel the warm welcome of all the green lion family and of the many volunteers that would become lifetime friends.

I would recommend to everybody to do the introduction week because you get to learn a lot about the culture, the village and most essential to know your group better. After the introduction, I completed three weeks of the environmental education program. The program was unique; most of the education programs are in the afternoon, with around 12 to 20 students per class (don't worry, usually two volunteers per course).
The education program was the highlight of the afternoon. The classes are usually two hours long with a little break of 20-30 min. I would always recommend preparing your lessons. You can get many copies and materials as you need them at the volunteer house. The kids were fantastic, always happy to see us with smiles and even letters and some gifts.

The mornings are free for you to make groups and explore the fantastic waterfalls around Ubud, the many temples, to take some adventurous excursions like the water rafting, the ATV ride, and my favorite, the hike to Mt Batur. The village is 20 min from Ubud downtown, where you can find plenty of restaurants, shopping, and many bars and clubs for those who love live music and some fun nights. I would recommend spending the weekend exploring the many islands outside Bali; Nusa Penida, Lombok, and Gili islands, paradise islands with clear waters, snorkeling with turtles, and Mantas. (there are plenty of drivers outside green lion who work directly with them and can take you anywhere, even with excursions packages).

Terima Kasih to all the fantastic people that work at Green Lion. Beautiful souls with a great attitude, the kitchen and cleaning staff for the tremendous job, the coordinators for their excellent help with the classes, and everybody at Green Lion. Thank you!

And most important, remember that the people in Bali are Hinduist. Therefore their beliefs about the afterlife and karma made most of them great people, so yes, Bali is a safe travel option.

Pros
  • The education program
  • The many touristic attractions, waterfalls, temples around the village
  • The great environment at the house, it feels like a family
Cons
  • The food is not the best, but you can get used to it, and even have dinner outside

Green Lion Bali Environmental Education

I have nothing but positive things to say about the Green Lion organization in Bali and the volunteer program that I partook in. The GL coordinators and supervisors are some of most welcoming and supportive people I've met, who went to great lengths to ensure us volunteers felt safe and comfortable. Volunteering in Bali was also a great way to connect with different people from around the world. I made some wonderful connections with people I intend to keep in touch with for the rest of my life.

In terms of my volunteering role, I found environmental education to be an important and meaningful contribution to rural Bali communities. Plastic pollution is unfortunately a huge issue on the island, and is prevalent in its streets, homes, farms, streams, beaches, etc. The severity of the problem however is tolerable through the engagement and interest expressed by the kids I taught. Many of them showed enthusiasm in cleaning up their local area and appeared to grasp some of the bigger concepts we taught them regarding waste disposal and environmental health. I recommend this program to anyone interested in working with kids, as well as helping people transform their attitudes and behaviors towards the environment. Go in with an open mind and be prepared to undergo personal growth and to broaden your worldview.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things.
Pros
  • Friendly people
  • Adventure opportunity
  • Meaningful contribution

KINDERGARTEN GREEN LION - BALI

After 4 weeks of volunteering in kindergarten I have nothing to say but a big thank you @ivhq for giving me the opportunity to share a little of my knowledge and my love to a community full of kindness and happiness. I’m very happy and satisfied with the work I’ve done here and I hope I have been able to make a mark on each of my children in Kumara Wiyata School.
I feel blessed to have met extraordinary people who have become in a good friends, and friends that are now like sisters. And without a doubt @greenlionbali has become in my second family in Bali.
Terimakasih all 🙏🏻

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
