Green Lion Bali Environmental Education

I have nothing but positive things to say about the Green Lion organization in Bali and the volunteer program that I partook in. The GL coordinators and supervisors are some of most welcoming and supportive people I've met, who went to great lengths to ensure us volunteers felt safe and comfortable. Volunteering in Bali was also a great way to connect with different people from around the world. I made some wonderful connections with people I intend to keep in touch with for the rest of my life.

In terms of my volunteering role, I found environmental education to be an important and meaningful contribution to rural Bali communities. Plastic pollution is unfortunately a huge issue on the island, and is prevalent in its streets, homes, farms, streams, beaches, etc. The severity of the problem however is tolerable through the engagement and interest expressed by the kids I taught. Many of them showed enthusiasm in cleaning up their local area and appeared to grasp some of the bigger concepts we taught them regarding waste disposal and environmental health. I recommend this program to anyone interested in working with kids, as well as helping people transform their attitudes and behaviors towards the environment. Go in with an open mind and be prepared to undergo personal growth and to broaden your worldview.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

KINDERGARTEN GREEN LION - BALI

After 4 weeks of volunteering in kindergarten I have nothing to say but a big thank you @ivhq for giving me the opportunity to share a little of my knowledge and my love to a community full of kindness and happiness. I’m very happy and satisfied with the work I’ve done here and I hope I have been able to make a mark on each of my children in Kumara Wiyata School.
I feel blessed to have met extraordinary people who have become in a good friends, and friends that are now like sisters. And without a doubt @greenlionbali has become in my second family in Bali.
Terimakasih all 🙏🏻

IVHQ Bali - Ubud Volunteer

I volunteered in Bali - Ubud for the health care education program. This was an amazing trip and I LOVED working with all of the kiddos! Bali is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend this destination. I enjoyed my experience with IVHQ. Where I stayed was fine, it was clean and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us. There were bunk beds and I was paired with 5 other people in the room. Food was awesome as well! All of the staff, volunteer coordinators, cooks, taxi drivers, etc. were absolutely amazing and made the experience organized and enjoyable! For the program itself, it seemed slightly unorganized at first because there weren't enough people for certain programs so they were having some people switch programs, but only if they wanted to. With that being said, my program, health care education was amazing. I did find that I was teaching children English and spending time with the kids rather than teaching them specifically about healthcare but I still really enjoyed it! I was able to teach them about washing their hands and how to live healthy! One more thing that people who are travelling with IVHQ should know is that you are required to have a one week orientation. The orientation is fun, you get to learn a lot about the country and culture that you are travelling in. However, it does take some time away from volunteering so make sure to plan for this while planning how long you will stay in your destination. Overall, I LOVED my experience in Bali and would recommend IVHQ to people who are wanting to volunteer abroad.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Honestly, I would stay longer! I was in Bali for 2 weeks but if I could change it, I would most likely stay for about 4 weeks, that way I could spend more time on the weekends travelling!

IVHQ is your go to for volunteering abroad

What an amazing way to take help the environment and take a holiday at the same time! All while meeting lifelong friends from around the world. I spent three weeks with IVHQ in Bali - 1 week orientation in Ubud and two weeks at the Turtle Conservation on Nusa Penida. I would definitely recommend the orientation week as you get to meet everyone and do tours around Ubud. The turtle conservation work was great either working with turtles or cleaning beaches, with time to rest and relax in between. I would recommend IVHQ as an organisation for anyone thinking of volunteering abroad. They are so organised, provide so much information before you go and also check-in when you return home. I loved my time in Bali, you will too!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you’re thinking of travelling alone but scared to (like I was), then do a volunteering trip, you will meet so many amazing people in the process!

AMAZING!!!!

This program was life changing! I had to opportunity to travel across the world to Bali, Indonesia. I was able to not only create a positive impact on the community with teaching, but also learn about their culture, and meet lifelong friends along the way. I participated in the Ubud, Bali program for kindergarten teaching. The staff strive to make it the best experience possible, and the Green Lion house is nothing but accommodating and clean. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone contemplating it. Definitely going to return soon!

Green Lion, Ubud Bali IVHQ

This wasn’t my first try at oversea volunteering, but it was my best so far. IVHQ was in constant contact with me from my initial registration to days before my departure for Bali.
Upon arrival (12:00 am) I was met by a driver who took me to the Green Lion site just outside of Ubud and a rep was there waiting for me and got me squared away right away. The next day I met with the coordinators and started orientation immediately, I opted for cultural week (highly recommended). On the Monday of my second week I started my 3 week stint on the construction program helping to build a school in the next village. We started as a crew of over 20 volunteers, but as the days passed and people finished their time, the numbers went down. For me construction is very satisfying, in seeing the job at hand and working together to complete the job. I know that the work carried on after I left but I’ll always know I am a part of the school. I am thankful to IVHQ for the opportunity to be more, but more so I’m thankful for the well organized support system that lets me know I wasn’t alone.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If possible, I would have explored more of Bali on my weekends and took in more opportunities in Abud on the evenings.

Bali kindergarten program IVHQ

Bali review
My name is Maria, I'm from Colombia and I'm 21 years old, I volunteered in Bali for 2 weeks in the kindergarten program. Volunteering was an unbelievable idea I had since I was in school, an adventure I always wanted to be part of and a dream I’ve always had since I discovered the volunteering world. When the idea of coming to Bali came to my mind, I couldn't be more excited and happy about having my dream becoming true. The application was ready and my 32 flying hours we're almost done.
I arrived at the volunteer's house and since I entered I knew It was going to be one of the best experiences of my life. The local team was incredibly warm, they treated me as if they knew me for a long time ago, and we became part of a new family. Since that moment I fell in love with the Balinese culture, its people and their beliefs. When I start working with the children all these feelings became stronger, they taught me that you don't need to speak the same language to transmit love, that faith is stronger than any problem on the road, that sharing and saying thank you is the most important value, and that a smile says more than a thousand words. I learned from every person I met, I travel around Bali enjoying the food, the temples, and getting myself into the culture with some yoga and meditation classes. These 2 weeks of volunteer taught me more than many other experiences have done in my whole life, I'll recommend Ivhq to anyone who wants to help the world, knowing that at the end you'll learn and you'll get more than you're actually giving. Thank you so much IVHQ

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Enjoy every moment of the program ! Travel around Bali and meet new people, make friends and speak with the local team, they have amazing story’s to tell. Always smile to the children, give the best of you even if the language barrier is difficult, they’ll manage to transmit their message to you.

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
