Summer to Remember

My experience with Adelante was definitely a good one. Not perfect, but good. The internship placement in the clinic was really awesome except that sometimes the director didn't want to listen to us and it lead to a few misunderstandings. But throughout the week when we were just working everything was awesome. Lots of hands on experience, lots of opportunities to learn new things. And the nurses and doctors there were so nice and really good at their jobs. I was continually impressed by them. I loved that our hours were monday-thursday as well because it gave us more time to travel and explore on the weekends. Our living quarters were pretty average. The bathroom was renovated, and the location was actually perfect, the neighborhood was super safe. Obviously it's not a USA luxury apartment but all things considered it was a good place to live. Usually if something broke or we had a problem they were able to help us out pretty quickly. The actual Adelante program itself was honestly much more independent than I expected, which was not a bad thing. They checked in every once in a while but honestly it felt like I was really living there by myself. Definitely a good way to gain experience adulting in another country haha. The only big complaint I would have with the program was communication. There were a number of details that weren't communicated to me at the beginning of the program like that I would have a specific uniform or little things like that. They would also often text us saying they were going to have someone come to the apartment for maintanence but only give us like a 30 minute warning and we were all at work. They got a little frustrated at that but honestly, we did to. We came to work, what can we say if we're not home at 11am. Anyway, besides the communication issues, it really was an amazing program. I learned and experienced sooooo much and I will never forget my time in Spain. If you're wondering whether or not it's worth it -- it is.

Pros
  • Real Clinical Experience
  • Amazing Location (Seville is sooooo cool)
Cons
  • Poor Communication
  • Unclear Expectations

Madrid Internship

Wonderful experience although I was a bit scared at first I had an amazing experience especially being in the center of Madrid there were tons of events I attended and all were very close. The metro was really easy and convenient to use as they had stations everywhere. I loved that the program was so independent so I got to do whatever I wanted it was just like here are your keys and these are the dates and addresses for your program. I think this independence made me grow as a person and I had a lot of fun while learning valuable skills for my resume.

International Teaching Assistant

I loved this internship & the program was amazing for the price. Although, I did have 1 big issue with the program. I was never told that housing could be co-ed. When I was informed on who my roommates would be, I was told it was 2 females. When arriving there was a male living there and the program coordinator told me there was nothing he could do and that I should’ve asked for female only living, when I never knew that was something I would have to clarify. Besides this I loved Barcelona & my internship placement

Pros
  • Increasing Cultural Competence
  • Improving Spanish
  • Resume Builder
Cons
  • Adjusting to life abroad
  • Housing issues
  • Locals disliking foreigners
Response from Adelante Abroad

Hi Anneka, thanks so much for taking the time to leave a Review and we are ever happy that you loved our long-running Intern in Barcelona program! Our housing, in all cities worldwide, is always, default, going to be co-ed. Primarily because our Programs begin the first Monday of every month, so even if for one month a housing may be one gender, by the following month it could easily be co-ed as new participants arrive each month / each new start date. If a candidate wants only one gender that does need to be requested and we do our best to accommodate. When you and your friend, another Adelante candidate, arrived into your apartment and understood it was co-ed, it would have been good to hear from you that you wanted to change housing! Even with an intense housing shortage in Barcelona right now, we could have tried to move you both. Many apologies for the mis- understanding! Good luck in ALL future endeavors, with your new, upgraded resume, solid Spanish speaking skills and life-long Barcelona memories:) Team Adelante

Adelante Abroad

There were a lot of positives from this experience. I was able to work closely with doctors in a way that I had not previously experienced. This gave me a great way to learn, and I was also able to see a lot of different medical cases. However, this was not very hands-on at all, and the program director in Sevilla refused to listen to what we were saying regarding our college majors. So had he been willing to hear us out, we could have gotten a better chance to do more tasks. But besides that, everything else at the clinic was cool.

Pros
  • food
  • medical experience
  • weekend trips
Cons
  • no AC in apartment
  • uncooperative program manager

Adelante Abroad

This program offered an opportunity to live abroad, explore new places, meet new people, and grow as a person all while building skills for one’s resumé and passions. It was a great experience and I made friends with a lot of cool people. We were able to adapt to new situations independently, but the program coordinators were always there to help us out if we needed anything and always did their best to accommodate everyone’s desires. It was a great experience, and i never felt homesick at all!!

Pros
  • Travel
  • Internship
  • Independence
Cons
  • Cost
  • Unpredictable hours of work
  • I shared a room (was a compromise)

Adelante Veterinary Internship

This experience was unique, in the way that I was able to explore and immerse myself in a local veterinary practice, while simultaneously living abroad exploring an entirely new country by myself. You are also able to grow as a person, by taking yourself out of your normal bubble, by traveling to a different place, trying new foods, making new friends you gain an experience that not many are able to have and grow as an individual. I could not recommend this program or opportunity enough, it really changed me and my future.

Pros
  • Immersing yourself in a new culture
  • Growing as a person
  • Gaining international experience
Cons
  • May miss home from time to time
  • May not assimilate as well into the culture
  • Time difference

Great Experience

Had an amazing time.. Would recommend to anyone who loves golf and the world around it! Whether you''re a good golfer or not,, you''ll find a place here with new people.. It's also a great program for friends to attend together as well.. The program leads are nice and accommodating.. I wish the program included more guaranteed or pre-paid rounds at bigger golf courses,, but we were still able to gain access and pay separately from the program, or out of pocket.. Overall, had an awesome time and would recommend to any golfer wishing to see Scotland!

Pros
  • New culture
  • Seeing a new place
  • Fun with new friends
Cons
  • Accommodation needs updating
  • Lack of weekend resources (rides, plans)
  • Not much diversity in food choices

Once in a lifetime experience

Had a wonderful experience and the Home of Golf. I have been a golfer most of my life and I am very educated about the game. However, during my trip I learned more about golf then I could have ever imagined. Our first study section was the history of golf and that was so fun being able to go to St. Andrews an learn about the start of it all. I was also very fun coaching younger kids about the game, as passing the game down to others is something very special and was a fulfilling experience. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys golf as they are going to get so much out of this experience.

Pros
  • All the golf courses we got to play
  • Sightseeing to many different places
  • Learning about the history and coaching of golf
Cons
  • Wish it was a longer trip with potentially more credits
  • Accommodation could have been slightly better.

What an amazing trip!

I believe that this trip will be one of the fastest growing in the country in the following years to come. I learned countless things about the game I love as well as scottish culture. I got to play some of the oldest and most famous courses in scotland. I was able to improve my game from the coaching side. I have relit my passion and love for the game. I have made friends for life and wouldn't change this experience for the world. It truly was unique to this group and I am so glad that I was able to be a part of the first year in this programs history.

Amazing Experience for All Golfers!

This has truly been a once in a lifetime experience, completely worth every penny!! The staff is top notch they are more like friends than teachers/chaperones. From the top notch coaching to the world renown course this is definitely every golfers dream. The courses are also very engaging and rely heavily on real world experience being able to go to hickory golf courses, visit the golf museum and coaching a group of children in golf. I could not recommend this program enough for anyone interested.

Pros
  • Great staff
  • Experiencing rich history
  • Great resume builder
