CEA CAPA Seville Study Abroad & Internship

My time with the CEA CAPA Seville study abroad and internship program was great! My internship consisted of me teaching English at an academy. My internship location was further than most, but they did try to accommodate this by providing everyone with an initial transportation card with money on it, and reduced the amount of hours I actually had to be at my internship. The location of Seville was very nice, people were welcoming, and I got to partake in a lot of cultural events. The only thing I would say that was confusing was the logistics of the internship hours, since no matter how many credit hours you chose for the internship class (either 3 or 6), you all do the same 20 hours a week. I did end up just switching to the 6-credit hour section because of this, but I know some people wanted the 3-credit hour section to do fewer hours, since they were most likely taking another class for an additional 3 credit hours. However, despite this, I did enjoy both the program and the experience.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw was the processions during Holy Week or "Semana Santa". Holy Week is very big in Seville, so I got the opportunity to see the processions go through the streets. But be careful, I did get stuck in a crowd at one of the processions longer than I wanted to lol.
Pros
  • Beautiful Location
  • Many Cultural Events
  • Good Night Life
Cons
  • Can get very busy with internship and classes

Great Experience

As a pre-medical student, I was given the unique opportunity to intern at a hospital in Seville. I assisted in the emergency room, urgent care, and hospitalization areas, shadowed various specialties, and improved my Spanish language skills while supporting patient needs. Throughout the process, I learned more about myself, built relationships with physicians who I am still in contact with today, and was able to develop skills essential for my career development. The staff was invaluable in supporting and guiding me throughout the process, and I could not be more grateful!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
One thing I learned more towards the end of being abroad was the importance of building last relationships with the local people in Spain. If I could go back, I would have focused on connecting with local students and the staff at the beginning of my time.

Unforgettable experience

I couldn’t have seen myself in any other study abroad program. CEA CAPA is amazing! So much support, so much fun, and such an enriching experience. The opportunity with CEA CAPA is never-ending. Throughout my time, from start to finish, CEA CAPA was there for me and my friends. Helped me create memories to last a lifetime and meet people I can continue life with. I recommend it to anyone and everyone, especially if they are nervous because so was I! Everyone I know who went through CEA CAPA loved it.

Buenos Aires Spring '24

I had such an incredible experience studying abroad. I made friends, that I am very grateful to still have in my life and have regular communication with my host family. My Spanish speaking abilities increased dramatically, and I loved the courses I took. My placement could not have been more perfect in terms of location, roommates and host family. I was lucky enough to be able to explore the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina in general, and other neighboring countries to create memories that will last a lifetime.

What was your funniest moment?
One of the funniest moments I can remember is sitting around the dinner table enjoying sobremesa (the conversation you have at the dinner table after the meal is concluded) and one of the other students I was staying with was asking my host mother's boyfriend if he enjoyed something, but because gustar is a reflexive verb he essentially asked my host mom's boyfriend if he liked my host mom... my roommate did not catch the error, but the other 6 of us at the table did. To say the least we all exploded in laughter (and we had to explain to our roommate his error)
Pros
  • Improving Language Abilities
  • Taking really interesting classes
  • Meeting new people/having new cultural experiences

An experience you'll never forget

I can't recommend this program to students enough! I studied abroad in Barcelona over the summer of 2024 and the experience is something I'll cherish forever. Not only did the faculty/staff make the experience as welcoming as possible, the courses I was enrolled in also taught me so much, and I often found myself connecting what I was learning in class to my everyday life. I also met some great girls in this program and fell in love with a city I've dreamed of visiting for years. 10/10 experience!

What was your funniest moment?
One weekend, my flatmates and I flew to Naples and were taking a ferry over to Capri. On the ferry we met a Swedish man who was so hilarious. We talked with him the whole ride over and he told us the way he learned English was by listening Lil Pump. The rest of the ride over he kept playing Gucci Gang and singing for us.
Pros
  • Very welcoming faculty and staff
  • Small program so you make friends w/everyone
  • Great courses that take you on field trips around the city
Cons
  • Pick pocketing
  • Some of the locals have really negative feelings for tourists
  • Public transportation is not 24/7

Studying and volunteering abroad in Barcelona!

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA in Barcelona was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to grow academically, personally, and culturally. The program provided the perfect balance of structured support and independence, helping me immerse myself in the city while still having a reliable safety net. One of the most meaningful aspects of my time abroad was my service-learning placement at La Troca, where I worked with young children while their immigrant mothers attended language classes. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of Barcelona’s diverse communities and the challenges immigrants face while adapting to a new culture.

Beyond academics, living in Barcelona was incredible—the city’s energy, rich history, and amazing food scene made every day an adventure. Whether exploring local markets, celebrating Castanyada, or simply soaking up the Mediterranean lifestyle, I felt truly connected to the culture. For future students, I’d recommend stepping outside your comfort zone—try speaking Spanish (or even Catalan!), engage with locals, and embrace the city’s slower-paced but lively way of life. CEA CAPA made my study abroad experience both enriching and seamless, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a transformative time abroad!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate in Barcelona was probably calçots with romesco sauce. Calçots are a type of green onion, and they’re traditionally grilled over an open flame until the outer layer is charred. You peel away the blackened skin, dip the tender, smoky inside in a rich, nutty romesco sauce, and eat it almost like slurping a noodle.
Pros
  • Hands-on Cultural Immersion
  • Balance of Independence and Support
  • Living in an Incredible City
Cons
  • Missing Family
  • Feeling Isolated During US Election

Fall 2024

I found myself right at home in Florence due to CEA CAPA's constant support. I was challenged academically while getting to experience an amazing new place. I loved my apartment and roommates, who I grew strong connections with and have stayed in close contact with since returning home. My room overlooked a beautiful piazza with a direct view of the Duomo. I lived within a 15-20 minute walk of my classes, which was extremely convienient for me. I got to take a wide variety of classes in Marketing, Design, and Communications strengthening my passion for these fields.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking thing I did was travel on my own for the first time. Traveling can always be stressful, especially when you do not know the language of the country you are in fluently. I was very stressed to travel outside of Italy by myself for the first tine to go and visit my friend and was an anxious wreck. I prepared beforehand and mapped out the different trains I needed to take, which really helped.
Pros
  • housing
  • experiences provided
  • culture
Cons
  • tourism
  • limited classes

AMAZING

I highly recommend this program. It was amazing. The program has everything planned down and is super welcoming. My teachers were great and the center is so well located. My teachers were super great at explaining everything. I loved being in Paris. You will never run out of things to do! There are so many museums that you can get into for free with your CEA CAPA student identity card. The food is amazing as well. From pastries, to meals, to desserts French cuisine is excellent.

Housing and Education

The housing through CEA CAPA is incredibly. Its spacious and close to campus. I HIGHLY recommend living with a host mom. My host mom and I are still in contact, she's now one of my best friends. Classes were moderate, not too difficult, but CEA had many resources to make sure that I succeeded in my class. My teacher, Prof. Cristina, was the kindest porfessor I have ever met. She made me fall in love with Spanish Literature and she planned really cool field trips! Overall, this program is wonderful for students who want to immerse themselves in the culture and experience what it's like to learn in a foreign country.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I did was stay up till 8 am with my best friends and go dancing all night long! This was surprising for me because I'm usually in bed by 9:30!! We then got churros as the sun rose, and sat on the bridge between our houses. SO FUN.
Pros
  • Fun class environments
  • Easy to make lifelong friends
  • Everything is walkable, no more Ubers!
Cons
  • No homework assignments (which means only two tests define your grade)
  • None

The Beautiful Absurdity of Prague

Before departing for Prague in the Fall of 2024, my expectations were high. I had been an avid fan of famous Czech writer Franz Kafka for years, and I was desperately longing for a glimpse into the city which so greatly impacted his famous works of literature. Thanks to the help of the staff at CEA CAPA, my transition from an American university student to an temporary citizen of Prague was incredibly seamless. Not only did I become accustomed to being an international student rather quickly, but thanks to the resources presented by the CEA CAPA staff, I felt I was able to maximize my appreciation and exploration of not only the city, but the rest of the Czech-Republic and Europe as well.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to all future travelers on this program is to not be afraid to explore. While this may seem obvious, many of the most beautiful corners of Prague are found when accidentally taking a left where you had initially planned to go right. Many locals in Prague are enthusiastic about sharing their love for the city, and wish all visitors the best possible experience. Furthermore, as far as exploration goes, the country of the Czech-Republic has a central location in Europe. Take the ample time provided by this program to not only explore Prague, but the rest of the Czech-Republic and Europe as well. Prague is home to a massive train and bus station which acts an a efficient and cheap resource to get from your location of study to another location of leisure for the weekend, for example a weekend trip to do some mountain hiking in Poland.
Pros
  • Central European location
  • Easily traversable city
  • Many locals kind and looking for conversation
Cons
  • Many general stores and restaurants close earlier than what American travelers may be used to
