First Semester in London

I spent the first semester of my freshman year in London through CEA CAPA and wouldn't trade it for the world. I have always wanted to travel the world and this program allowed me to kickstart that dream at 18. Not only did I have the best time living in London where there was never a shortage of things to do, but I was also able to travel outside of the city thanks to the immense resources CEA CAPA provided. While the apartment I was living in was small to say the least, I quickly grew to love it and miss it to this day. During the first few days after landing, the changes seemed almost too much to handle but with time and help from CEA CAPA, I found myself loving everything about it within a week.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of your time! A semester or year may seem like a long time, but it truly flies by. Even when I was a week out from flying back to the states, my bucket list was nowhere near completed and I can't wait until I can return and keep checking things off.
Pros
  • no language barrier
  • loads of resources/support from CAPA
  • Similar (ish) culture to the US
Cons
  • London is an expensive city
  • Apartments tend to be cramped

Aix-en-Love

Aix-en-Provence is a wonderful city and i loved every moment of it. The region is very beautiful with nice weather and many activities that students can do. The program is very well organized to give students the chance to travel around the region and enjoy local activities, but it’s also easy to travel independently or find something interesting inside the town. The academic aspect is also great, with amazing teachers and very interesting classes. My favorite part of my study abroad was definitely being able to just walk around and enjoy the town. I was also able to make strong connections with the other students and hope we will remain friends for a long time.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I could do this all over again, I would try to be more outgoing from the beginning. While I had lots of fun and made friends, for the first half of the program I was often alone except for the organized activities or when we had people at the apartment. I think my experience would have been even better if I tried to communicate more with the others.
Pros
  • great location
  • lots of things to do
  • cultural and language immersion to truly become part of the local community
Cons
  • could potentially be assigned to housing that is far from everything
  • it takes some time to adapt to the language
  • the daily 3 hours long grammar classes can be tiring

CEA CAPA x LSU

I studied in Paris with CEA CAPA and LSU architecture professors in Fall 2024 and had an amazing experience! The CEA CAPA building is located in the Marais, which is the perfect neighborhood to explore during lunch breaks and after class. The staff was so helpful and kind, and always willing to chat or give advice. Programming allowed us to try local foods, practice our French language skills, and even mingle with French students. I recommend choosing CEA CAPA for any destination to study aboad!

Great Experience

Studying at University of Sydney was a challenging but incredible experience. It challenged me academically and had different academic structure as I am used to, but being in Australia was totally worth. it. Sydney is a perfect fit for those who love adventure and a laid back environment. Every weekend you can do completely different things and activities, there is always something new to do. Also, it has a great work/life balance. Everyone is up early to workout and surf to later go to work, so it is a very healthy.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would probably prefer living near the beach.

Fantastic Program!

I had a wonderful experience with CEA CAPA. The staff on-site was extremely helpful. I felt very supported throughout my entire study abroad experience. Additionally, my professors were excellent. I learned so much and my classes were tailored to England and the British-experience. My professors provided all assignments with thorough feedback. We frequently went on field studies as a class and CEA CAPA provided weekend and afternoon activities. These activities allowed me to explore the city and England as a whole.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
During fall break I was able to go to Paris Disneyland!
Pros
  • Great staff
  • Fantastic Classes
  • Wonderful events

Living in Prague was the best experience - socially and academically.

Living in Prague was such an eye opener to cultures not so common found in the US. Getting around the city and traveling outside of Prague was so convenient and affordable. I often took day trips and still found time to get work done within a timely manner. The staff onsite are incredible; they really took the time to get to know everyone and helped with anything we might of needed. Although there were times I missed my family, Prague is an easy city to feel at home in. I learned to be more independent and live with new people for the first time. I also had the incredible opportunity to make friends from all over the world.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moments we had was in the first week when we were mixing up greetings in Czech. After leaving some stores, I would always mix up good-bye and thank you.
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Safe
  • Easy to get around (public transportation)
Cons
  • Hard language
  • currency difference is slightly difficult

Eye Opening Experience Abroad

Why do I think you should study about with CEA CAPA? It is a great chance to see the world outside your comfort zone. You can experience new cultures and traditions. You can learn a lot about the history and truly create a new home abroad. Studying abroad with CEA CAPA is an experience I will never forgot and new stop talking about. It is a great way to broaden your horizon, see and learn new things, try new foods, do new things and experience life in the shoes of a different culture and different life. The reason why I wanted to study abroad was due to the fact of my father being an immigrant and how he was always telling how hard it was. I wanted to experience this for myself although there were some challenges in this journey it allowed me to learn and grow in ways that I never expected. I was able to adapt myself to a new place and find peace and happiness in a place that was unfamiliar. I want to encouraged other students to study abroad because it may be something that they too will never forget the experience and learn a lot from.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment was probably my first day there geting lost of the metro
Pros
  • Experience something new
  • Learn new language, culture, and history
  • Being able to see things I dreamt of
Cons
  • New language
  • New culture
  • Did not know anyone

Life-Changing Experience

The program I was part of was for first-semester freshman, and I can't lie, it was extremely nerve-racking at first going from high school into spending 4 months in a new country, but once I was settled in and realized that I was in a new place with discoveries to be made every day, I did just fine.
London was quite possibly the most fun I have had in my whole life, and not only was it fun, but it was also extremely eye-opening and instructive. The classes I took were all great, and I learned a ton of things that I likely would not have learned back home, but there is also just a lot to learn about life when you are experiencing something like this. You learn how to be more independent, more adaptive, and more willing to experience new things.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take complete advantage of this opportunity!!
You are in a new country where nobody knows you, so you can kind of even see it as a fresh start. Go out, make connections, see all the sights, go to events, wake up early, stay out late, have fun!
(of course you should focus on your academics, but also just let go a little)
If it's feasible for you and you have the chance, travel elsewhere too! England has a great transit system to not only other parts of the country, but to other countries as well.
Pros
  • So much to do and see
  • Solid Transportation
  • You're a legal adult...

The joys of interning abroad

Interning abroad in Florence was the best thing I ever did. Know that when you study abroad you will mostly be surrounded by other American students. However, when you intern you expose yourself to many of the Italian people. So many doors become open in terms of the Italian work culture, family culture and eating culture among a lot of Italians from all circles of life. So don't think twice about this, it will forever change you for the best. It is something you will carry with you and cherish forever.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you want more free time don't intern abroad, it's a full commitment but also rewarding.
Pros
  • great food
  • easy language to learn
  • easy to commute

The Best Four Months

My four months abroad were truly remarkable and experiencing CEA CAPA made it even more meaningful. Through CEA CAPA, I took two unique courses - The Jewish Experience in Prague and Czech Culture, Food and Brewing Traditions -which offered incredible learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. I learned how to cook traditional Czech dishes and tried classic Czech candy. The field trips in these courses allowed me to explore places that I wouldn’t have otherwise, such as having a tour of Strahov Monastery Brewery and the Czech Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I truly appreciated all the activities that CEA CAPA offered to help students adjust and explore other parts of the Czech Republic while meeting others in the program. My favorite of these excursions was the trip to Český Krumlov. It was an overnight excursion and we had all-included meals and a private tour of the town and castle. Here I was really able to meet others in my program who lived in a different part of Prague.

Additionally, living in local neighborhoods helped me fully immerse myself in the culture, making me feel less like a visitor and more like a local. With this set-up I felt that I had an easier time adjusting to life abroad and to the culture shock that followed.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Beef Tongue in Prague
