Studying in Barcelona

I loved my time studying abroad, and I think it is an experience everyone should have! Barcelona was the perfect city, with its amazing diversity of things to do, the beautiful architecture everywhere and the beach right there! CEA CAPA made this experience was it was with great classes that were also fun and allowed us to see and learn about the city at the same time. We also had opportunities to see the city, such as attending a FC Barcelona game, and so many other great activities that immersed us in the culture.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would try to explore the city everyday, because there are so many things to see!
Pros
  • Big City
  • Great Weather
  • Lots of Diversity
Cons
  • Possible Language Barrier
  • Difficulty Adjusting
  • Can be Overwhelming

Time in Madrid

My first semester in college I was granted the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid. My program, part of the University of Massachusetts, was organized through the CEA CAPA office. All of my classes were taken in said office, and so, I was able to personally get to know many of those who allow CAPA to function so well. Every single person who ran our program was amazing, generous, and available at a moment's notice. Apart from the education, the experiences were amazing. CAPA took us on a variety of amazing cultural outings that furthered our enjoyment in the country. Overall, my experience was amazing.

CEA CAPA Study Abroad in Florence, Italy

I studied abroad with CEA CAPA in Florence, Italy Fall of 2024. I was apart of the Social Sciences and Cultural Studies program which fit my degree track as a Communication Studies major. I had the most amazing experience of my life. Studying abroad was my first time out of the country and I am beyond happy I chose Florence as my home country for four months. CEA CAPA did a wonderful job integrating students into the culture, addressing safety protocols, recommendations for food and sites, and overall academic support. I lived in a beautiful apartment with five other roommates that was less than an 18-minute walk to campus and less than 30 minute walk from the train station. We were placed in more a local neighborhood, where we got to experience authentic restaurants, boutiques, and cafes. I was able to have so much fun while also maintaining good grades due to the support from professors and staff. Although I went into the program knowing my roommates, I was still able to meet so many new friends who lived in different states and went to different schools. The connections and memories I made here will last a lifetime.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take time to explore Florence on your own! I believe it is so important for self-development and growth to spend time with yourself and embrace your surroundings. This can be booking a solo day trip, going to a museum solo, or even a walk to a park.

Best 4 months of my life!

Living, studying, and working in a new country was one of the most special things I have ever experienced. Especially because it was such a great city filled with green spaces, community, and culture. My homestay was the highlight of my experience, and I am still in contact with my host family today because they were like a new real family to me. Being able to do an internship was also such a unique experience - seeing the work culture and attitudes and Spain and being able to bring that back to my career in the US. Wouldn't trade this experience for the world!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Little fried fish with tails and skin and eyes and everything! This was a traditional dish during the week of Feria, and although unfamiliar, delicious!
Pros
  • My host family and dog
  • Parque Marie Louisa: 99 Acres!
  • Traveling to 9 countries!
Cons
  • Internship Classes on Fridays :(

CEA CAPA Seville, Spain

I had the most wonderful experience studying with CEA CAPA in Sevilla! The program exceeded all my expectations, and I couldn’t have asked for a better academic and cultural experience. The teachers were truly incredible! So supportive, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. It was clear that they genuinely cared about their students, always going above and beyond to ensure we felt encouraged and engaged.

Beyond the classroom, the program provided so many opportunities to immerse ourselves in Spanish culture, from excursions to local events, making Sevilla feel like a second home. I’m so grateful for everything I learned and the connections I made. If you’re considering studying abroad, I can’t recommend CEA CAPA Sevilla enough!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of the most nerve-wracking moments of my experience with CEA CAPA in Sevilla was stepping off the bus from the airport and meeting my host family for the first time. I was filled with excitement but also a bit of anxiety like would we get along? Would I feel at home? But I quickly realized that the best way to overcome my nerves was to just be my authentic self. I opened up, showed them who I really was, and from that moment on, everything fell into place. My host family was absolutely amazing! So warm, welcoming, and supportive. They became one of the highlights of my time abroad, making my experience in Sevilla even more special than I could have imagined.
Pros
  • Best city
  • Small education program so you really know everyone in your program
Cons
  • There is no cons its the best place ever

Best 4 Months of my Life!

Prague was the best home for four months. I decided to studying abroad somewhere where a lot of people at my home university and it was honestly the best decision. I met so many people from not only around the U.S but the world. There are so many things to do in Prague from going to Prague Castle to walking around Letna Park. Prague is such a central area that it's very easy to travel to other countries like Germany and Slovenia. Prague is a very safe city and I felt very comfortable walking alone, even at night. I would highly recommend studying abroad here!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would say although most people speak English, try to learn a little bit of Czech. I took an Introduction to Czech Language and Culture class and it definitely helped!
Pros
  • Afforable
  • Great Public Transportation
  • Lots of History

Study abroad in Sevilla!

I loved my experience in the beautiful, authentic city of Sevilla, España! I stayed with an amazing Host family who became a second family to me. Through CEA CAPA, I had the opportunity to take part in many activities within the city such as Paella making, Flamenco dance classes, and watching a Flamenco show. Taking classes at both the CEA CAPA center and the University of Sevilla, provided an invaluable immersive experience to strengthen my Spanish skills. Take advantage of the 'intercambios' the CEA CAPA center provides to meet locals, as well as, attend cool events, such as a Betis futbol game. ¡Viva el Betis manque pierda! I would highly recommend studying abroad through the program to anyone who wants to discover a new part of themselves by learning and exploring the orange tree-lined streets of Sevilla!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would highly recommend staying with a host family if you have the opportunity. Not only will you have a chance to see authentic Sevillano neighborhoods outside the city, but you will also create a lifelong bond with them. I am still in contact with my host family to this day, they have become a second family to me. I still cherish our family meals filled with laughter, as well as, our adventures exploring the city together.
Pros
  • Amazing Host Family
  • A friendly and helpful staff at the CEA CAPA center
  • An amazing Spanish language immersion experience

A Perfect Mixture of Old and New in Dublin

My favorite part of studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland, was the access I had to experiencing culture and meeting locals. The lack of language barrier and friendly wellbeing of Irish people made it so much easier to get settled as a foreign student. I also think Dublin was an extremely unique place to study abroad as it is evolving very quickly. The history of Ireland was very relevant in my every day life, and understanding Ireland's hardships gives students an inside look about current Irish culture and hobbies.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Some advice I would give to future travelers is to engage in banter with locals. I often spoke with Uber Drivers and my advisors about how much the Irish love to crack jokes and make fun of each other. Sometimes as an American, I felt slow to catch on with the sarcasm, but it was never directed at me with intent to harm. I would also suggest going to some of the less touristy areas of Dublin, like Stoneybatter and the Liberties. There are so many pubs, bookstores, and food shops to explore, so it is good to get out of Temple Bar!
Pros
  • Large diversity of food choices, options for allergies
  • Easily walkable city
  • Dublin was friendly to LGBTQ+ individuals
Cons
  • More difficult public transportation, the train only goes so far from the city centers
  • Middle to higher prices for food and drink
  • Least amount of sun I've experienced in a couple of months

Sam Delgado CEA CAPA Review

I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain during the Spring 2025 semester, and it was an incredible experience. I studied at two different universities and worked as an intern. This collaboration of experiences in such a city was a challenge but an enjoyable one. CEA CAPA as a program was very helpful to me and other students in solving minor problems or misunderstandings. The program also provided a surplus of opportunities for the wonders of the city and country. In addition to this, there were many activities that you could participate in, like a small soccer league with other study abroad programs.

Pros
  • Rapid communcation
  • Great housing
  • surplus of opportunities to explore the city and country

  • Language barriers
