Studying abroad with CEA CAPA in Seville was a life-changing experience that left me feeling fulfilled and excited to embark on spontaneous adventures. Seville was my second home because I felt embraced by the CEA staff and local Sevillanos. I used to go on walks with my landlord, Sol, which allowed me to improve my Spanish-speaking skills and build a meaningful relationship. She would recommend local tapas bars on our walks and beautiful city views from terraces. Furthermore, I babysat for two young Spanish boys, and I would help them with their English. This gave me an opportunity to immerse myself further into the culture and gain international babysitting experience. Ultimately, Seville felt like a second home. I miss my daily routine that consisted of runs by the Plaza de España, late-night walks by the river, and my daily cup of coffee at a local cafe near my apartment.
If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The only thing I would change if I did this program all over again would be my living situation. At the time, I enjoyed my living situation with my four roommates and our cute apartment near the cathedral. However, the apartment felt comfortable and familiar. As comforting as this felt in a new country, it didn't push me out of my comfort zone and I wanted the chance to try more authentic food. Therefore, I would choose the Casa de Sevilla, which is when you reside in an apartment, but a host mom comes for every meal and cooks each meal for you. This sounds most appealing to me because it allows you to build connections and practice Spanish with a local and enjoy freshly cooked authentic Spanish meals.
Pros
- Felt supported by every staff member which enhanced overall experience
- Provided opportunities to immerse students into culture ( flamenco and cooking classes)
- Planned fun, exciting, and educational excursions that bonded the program.
