Abroad in Sevilla

I studied abroad in Sevilla fall of 2024 with CEA CAPA. I didn't know a whole lot about Sevilla but I grew to love this beautiful city and the culture. CEA CAPA staff was so helpful when we first arrived and provided so much assistance throughout our time there. I also enjoyed all of my classes and got the opportunity to take a Flamenco class which was one of my highlights of the experience! I had the best time exploring this city and going to other places around Spain and Europe. I would recommend this program to anyone that wants to stuudy abroad !

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I was apart of Intercambio, an opportunity to get connected with a local and help each other practice Spanish and English. I was nervous to meet her because I was insecure about my Spanish. But it was such a cool opportunity to get to know a local and practice my Spanish with someone and I was able to help her with her English. This opportunity helped me be more confident in speaking Spanish and I made a friend out of it too !
Pros
  • Walkable city
  • Super safe
  • cheap !
Cons
  • can be more expensive to travel

An Incredible Adventure

I had always wanted to travel the world, but I had never even been out of the country until I went to live abroad for four months with CEA CAPA. This was the best decision I have ever made, as I had an incredible experience and was able to travel the rest of Europe on the weekends, while also being able to enjoy living in the French Riviera throughout the week. Furthermore, the onsite staff were super helpful, and the excursions were a great way to get to know the surrounding areas. Overall, I had an awesome time abroad and am super grateful I decided to go.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would travel more of the closer surrounding areas. I did a lot of traveling to other countries, like Spain, Italy, Morocco, Germany and Switzerland, but I never traveled much along the French Riviera, which I really regret.
Pros
  • Living by the beach
  • Great food
  • Awesome staff
Cons
  • Less safe when tourist season ended
  • The bus to SKEMA was long and crowded - I always got motion sick

CEA CAPA London Study Abroad

My experience through CEA CAPA has positively influenced my life in a multitude of ways. I learned professional skills through my internship, I gained adaptability skills living in a new environment. I became more confident especially because you have to meet new people at all times whether for fun, to ask for directions, or to make new connections. Overall, I loved my experience even with some lows, I learned so much about myself and will forever look back on the amazing memories that was able to create.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared to try new things. Living in a new place means an entirely different culture, you can bring some things that have been custom to your lifestyle but you must leave room to conform to what surrounds you if it is only beneficial to you. Everywhere life is different and you have to be okay with adapting to the word "different".
Pros
  • Exploring new places, restaurants, events, historical monuments, and more.
  • Meeting new friends, whether through the program, work, or people that lived in London.
  • Being independent. This built time management skills and allowed me to explore the way I wanted.
Cons
  • Missing family, this is NORMAL! but not only are you so busy that it doesn't overwhelm your mind but at least when its all over you can look forward to being back with them!
  • Feeling lonely at times, being in a big city can get a little overwhelming and not being with familiar faces can make you feel a little isolated at times. But this is temporary and also is a mindset that you have to remember is temporary.
  • The weather being rainy, dark, and cold. Sometimes this made me not want to go out if I didn't have to but this is a mindset you have to push through because your time is so limited.

Housing

CEA CAPA gave me such a good housing that was spacious, well furnished, and in a great neighborhood. I was able to host a bunch of friends for a chill movie night or celebrations like Thanksgiving. Everything was set up for us from the kitchen to our bedrooms and we really only had to buy perishable items like toilet papers and food. I loved it so much- so close to the metro and everything was easily accessible in my neighborhood. Multiple grocery stores within walking distance and school/ airport was a metro ride away.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would bring a friend! Sometimes, it's hard to become best friends with your roommates and it can be difficult to make friends. If I were to change one thing, I would bring a friend I love and trust so we can travel the world together.
Pros
  • New experiences
  • Travel all over Europe
  • Good food and trying new cuisines
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Hard to make friends
  • homesick

Study Abroad with CEA CAPA

I studied abroad with CEA CAPA during fall semester 2024 and absolutely loved it. The one thing that really makes CEA CAPA stand out from other programs is the amazing and supportive staff. Everyone from the people who sat at the front desk to the professors was so amazing. I would also recommend this program because they are dedicated to getting their students to really know the city. We had field trips all the time in classes going to see the art and aspects of the city that we were learning about in the classroom. I loved this program and would definitely recommend it!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I think I would study abroad with someone I know because a lot of people go with friends or friend groups and it can be kind of difficult to make friends sometimes.
Pros
  • The amazing staff
  • The classes are super interesting
  • My housing was awesome
Cons
  • The difficulty of traveling from Florence

A Moving Madrid Experience

Studying abroad this past fall was one of the most transformative experiences of my academic journey. Adapting to daily life—navigating unfamiliar transportation, shopping at local markets, and learning new social norms—helped me become more resilient and open-minded. The opportunity to practice a different language and connect with locals broadened my worldview and made me appreciate cultural differences. Beyond academic gains, I formed friendships with people from across the globe, creating a supportive community that made each challenge feel more like an adventure. Overall, the semester pushed me outside my comfort zone, enriched my education, and left me with memories and insights I’ll carry for a lifetime.

CEA CAPA Seville was unforgettable

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA in Seville was a life-changing experience that left me feeling fulfilled and excited to embark on spontaneous adventures. Seville was my second home because I felt embraced by the CEA staff and local Sevillanos. I used to go on walks with my landlord, Sol, which allowed me to improve my Spanish-speaking skills and build a meaningful relationship. She would recommend local tapas bars on our walks and beautiful city views from terraces. Furthermore, I babysat for two young Spanish boys, and I would help them with their English. This gave me an opportunity to immerse myself further into the culture and gain international babysitting experience. Ultimately, Seville felt like a second home. I miss my daily routine that consisted of runs by the Plaza de España, late-night walks by the river, and my daily cup of coffee at a local cafe near my apartment.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The only thing I would change if I did this program all over again would be my living situation. At the time, I enjoyed my living situation with my four roommates and our cute apartment near the cathedral. However, the apartment felt comfortable and familiar. As comforting as this felt in a new country, it didn't push me out of my comfort zone and I wanted the chance to try more authentic food. Therefore, I would choose the Casa de Sevilla, which is when you reside in an apartment, but a host mom comes for every meal and cooks each meal for you. This sounds most appealing to me because it allows you to build connections and practice Spanish with a local and enjoy freshly cooked authentic Spanish meals.
Pros
  • Felt supported by every staff member which enhanced overall experience
  • Provided opportunities to immerse students into culture ( flamenco and cooking classes)
  • Planned fun, exciting, and educational excursions that bonded the program.

Bites of Spain

My experience with trying new foods in Spain played a huge role in helping me feel truly immersed in the culture - it made me feel like I was getting the full experience of living in a new country. Through CEA CAPA, I had the opportunity to take a course called Food and Culture, which ended up shaping my time abroad more than I ever expected. From visiting a local winery and sampling authentic Spanish wines to doing a bread and olive oil tasting in class to participating in a tapas potluck at a local kitchen, each activity added a unique and memorable layer to my cultural experience. The tapas potluck, in particular, was my favorite. Learning how to cook traditional Spanish recipes like gazpacho, tortillas, and churros was not only fun and engaging but also incredibly eye-opening. I gained a deeper understanding of the key ingredients and cooking techniques central to Spanish cuisine and saw firsthand how they differ from the food culture I grew up with.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I tried while being in Madrid was oreja a la plancha, which essentially is grilled pig ears. I think this was a bit too far out of my comfort zone, and I did not enjoy it!
Pros
  • I took the opportunity while being abroad to immerse myself in the Spanish culture and it was so amazing to see the way of life in Spain and be able to witness new traditions
  • Going abroad allowed me to be independent and find a new level of personal growth I never knew was possible
  • I took so many engaging and interesting classes that I wouldn't take at my home university!
Cons
  • Sometimes I felt held back when I couldn't understand what locals were saying to me as I don't fully understand the Spanish language
  • Adjusting to life in a new country was definitely challenging at first

Beyond Perfect

I was in search of a thrilling and educational adventure and that is exactly what this program is. Many of the professors were outstanding and incredibly knowlegable, the CEA on site staff were beyond helpful, caring, and became our friends. The hands on educational opportunities were once in a lifetime and the homestays were nothing short of phenominal. I wouldn't change anything about the program. It is perfect for the outdoor lover, the thrill seaker, the night life enjoyer, and just about everyone else.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you are going hiking, particularly during the rainy season, leave 3 hours before you think you should. You do not want to get stuck on a mountain in a thunderstorm (speaking from experience)
Pros
  • Host family life engrains you in the culture and the language
  • Fully paid excursions with CEA CAPA
  • Weekend trips and buses are simple because the country is small
Cons
  • It rains a lot so if you don't like the rain, do in the dry season ( i like the rain but if you don't be aware of this)

Life in Antibes

I spent the fall of 2023 in Antibes, France and it was such a wonderful time. The city was at its most vibrant until the end of October and then again at the end of December. There is a lot to do around the city and traveling to other parts of the French Riviera is very easy and cheap. The community always felt pretty safe and the people were very nice. I would say to try to learn some French, as the locals appreciate when you try to make an effort and will often respond back in English if they can tell you are stuggling. As a STEM student, I attended SKEMA business school, which is a great business school but I struggled a bit with the STEM classes, I require a stricter learning environment that was different than the way we were taught. Overall, the experience was so amazing and I would recommend it to anyone that is thinking of going!
