Incroyable

The whole experience changed my life and allowed me to grow and build myself and my identity. I learned how to be independent, how to explore, and how to embrace change in a positive way. I was enlightened by the amount of different historically and culturally significant places I got to see, the dozens of museums I got to visit, and the many foods I got to try. I want to move to France now, and I’m currently looking at ways to achieve that. As someone who also deals with depression regularly, I truly felt supported by those around me, especially our program coordinator Aurore. Aurore helped me feel cared for and included. She was extremely supportive and personable, she helped me with my internship and was one of my photography models, she was an amazing friend and even helped me plan a dinner for my birthday. She went above and beyond and made my internship experience ten times greater than what I imagined it could be. She was able to give everyone the chance to explore and learn about France (where our internship program was) and she immersed us into the culture in a way that allowed us to understand what it was like to live in Paris. She knew how to cheer us up when we were feeling down.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to list all the things you want to do in your chosen destination, and once you get there, invite anyone else in the program to accompany you on your adventures so that you get to experience something entirely new and you get to share the moment while doing so.
Pros
  • Creates confidence
  • Supports tons of growth
  • Enriches experience and knowledge
Cons
  • Can be confusing to navigate a destination
  • Getting your phone to work is hard
  • Can be slightly scary

I had the most amazing summer because of Absolute Internship!

From the application process to our time in Lisbon, the Absolute staff was extremely helpful and supportive. One unique aspect that stood out to me about this program was how focused and personalized the internship placement process is to your career interests. The housing, trips, and program activities are extremely well-planned. Some of the things I did in Lisbon included a pastel de nata baking class, a fado show, and a Portuguese play. Our trips included going to Sintra, Porto, Cascais, and Ericeira. Lastly, my program coordinator (shout out to Marta) was beyond dedicated to showing us Portugal. My 2 months wouldn't have been the same without her!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried snails and octopus for the first time in Lisbon. I loved them both!

My Experience With Absolute Internship

I participated in the 2 month long intern abroad program in Paris during the summer of 2022 and had an incredible time. I was paired with a company doing marketing, which was my preferred area of work. I learned a lot about the different work culture and gained experience that will be valuable as I start my career back home. My program coordinator, Aurore, was an incredible resource throughout! She offered me guidance as I navigated a new and big city and worked for a new employer. I am so grateful to her for her kindness and support. She truly elevated my entire experience!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to take advantage of the opportunity and really explore the city fully. I loved walking around an area and seeing things that the locals do as opposed to sticking with the tourist attractions. Those are great to see too but you can observe so much more about the new culture and the way of life by exploring areas away from commercialized and touristy areas that are filled with people from America and the same as what you see back home.
Pros
  • Support is always available
  • Work experience that stands out
  • Expands your world view

An incredible personal and professional growth opportunity.

Interning with Absolute was an investment that I did not expect to have such a big impact on me. It was my first solo endeavor abroad, living in my own terms, and working for a company full-time. The housing staff were amazing and I was able to get to know the city via locals on full 3 hour chats at the front desk. The Absolute Internship team were incredibly helpful from the start; since our first meeting to know more of my area to my positioning in a company, the job interview and on-site, the care the team shows to you in hopes of you having a wonderful experience is immense. Working on-site with the film production company was also amazing, getting to see their processes first hand and being involved in recordings, post-production and even having lunch with the co-workers. Living in Madrid was also incredible, it’s a vibrant and safe city in which you are able to explore many great historic places, eateries and meet great people. This program also allowed me to further enrich my résumé, also being able to meet my co-workers after the program ended back in my hometown to attend a film festival and getting to meet new film directors afterwards. It’s an investment that keeps on giving, as long as you just say ‘yes’ and take the plunge.

What was your funniest moment?
On our way back from our day trip in Barcelona, me and my friends were so tired that we ended up laughing non-stop for the better part of our trip at the dumbest things ever, further enriching our friendship and creating fond memories that i still laugh at today.
Pros
  • Getting immersed in a new culture.
  • Possibility of continuing your job relationships after the program ends.
  • Personal growth and resilience.
Cons
  • Unpaid program.

Amazing experience!!!

My internship in Tokyo was an amazing opportunity. I got to experience so many things that I wouldn't have been able to if I had just visited on my own, and I got to experience them with a group of people from all over the world! My program activities were much more in depth than I could have ever imagined (we even stayed at a fancy hotel with a spa, all included in the price)! I was so impressed by the housing as well, and it felt like an apartment for the summer with everyone in the program. My internship itself was a great experience, and they even hired me on to work as a paid intern remotely for the year. It was a bit tough finding one that worked out for my preferences in the beginning, but the Absolute staff was very accommodating and got me the in-person position that I was wanting. I highly recommend, Japan was incredible!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
It was pretty scary to navigate the train system by myself for the first time, but we had gone once as a group before and I was able to figure it out from there. It also helps that I became proficient in Japanese before going, but plenty of people in the group weren't fluent and still did fine!
Pros
  • New food
  • Group activities
  • Great resume builder
Cons
  • Being away from family
  • A bit hard to get financial aid
  • My program came to an end eventually ):

Just do it

If you have the opportunity to do an internship abroad, do it. I loved exploring the city with new friends and gaining experience in the industry at the same time. I think a summer internship was the best option for me.
The housing was incredible and in a perfect area for moving around the city. The city was safe and had a lot of things to do. The activities helped me to meet other students and make new friends. The company I worked for was good and the people were friendly and kind to me, I felt at home all the time.

What was your funniest moment?
Being with my friends and laughing about everything we were talking
Pros
  • Improve cv
  • Meet new people
  • New other cultures

Exceptional experience

It was an amazing experience since I could discover new culture, food, and people. Beside this the academic and professional experience gained from the internship is invaluable. I would say being friendly and ethical helped me gain trust and share the knowledge with my supervisor, which helped me a lot. Without forgetting the assistance of Absolute during my stay in almost everything, from information, tips and having someone to talk to! The best moments were the trips to Uppsala and Gothenburg.

Intern in Madrid

I really enjoyed my experience from minute 1 and I also loved how the enrolment side of things was fluid and free flowing. I applied early and the process was seemless. The social side was great as well as the placement and I would highly recommend the programme. The accommodation was great and located close by to the attractions of the city of Madrid so after working at my placement it wasn’t exhausting to go to places with the other interns on the program. All in all a great experience that I’d recommend

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be put off by the costs as these are the same as if you were to organise these things yourself I.e., flights visas etc. also with absolute they have connections with great companies in their host cities making it easier to get the right placement for you
Pros
  • Develop personal skills
  • Transparency
  • Activities
Cons
  • Cost however payment plans and other funding is available

Absolute Paris!

Absolute Internship was an all round amazing experience from the easy application process, great internship placement opportunities and social aspect. The team was incredibly supporting when it came to the process, organising interviews and making sure we had all the information needed prior to the placement. Aurore and the team in Paris we’re integral in making my month unforgettable! They immediately made sure we felt safe and comfortable and organised amazing activities to get to know the group and make the most of the city. Aurore was fab in getting to know each of us well and suggest activities etc that would take our individual interests. My placement itself has helped me gain essential industry skills and extend my network with colleagues I continue to work alongside today!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and explore an unknown city with the invaluable recommendations of the team!
Pros
  • Highly organised and efficient placement process
  • Professionally rewarding experience
  • Incredible social aspect

Fantastic Experience

My summer in Paris with Absolute Internship was an ideal balance of structure and independence. The way the program was structured allowed me to have a fully immersive and formative experience in Paris - feeling like I was truly able to appreciate and settle into the culture - while being confident that I had a support system around me whenever I need it. The housing was pristine, and the ability to access different facets of Paris through Absolute's recommendations and formal programming was a positive addition. Absolute is a great opportunity to have an experience abroad that is both personally and professionally fulfilling.
