Singapore internship

I had an internship in Singapore which was an incredible opportunity. They sorted out all of the documents and looked after us while we were there, arranging activities. I met several other students from across the world on the same program that I became good friends with. I also had the opportunity to travel to neighboring countries. While in Singapore I visited Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, South Korea, and Malaysia. Sim card and public transport was all organized by them which was very useful. We had introduction activities to Singapore which helped us to get to know the area and meet the other people on the program. The 2 absolute internship representatives living with us were incredibly helpful and kind

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Singapore was a very different culture. The hawker stalls were great, a huge variety of foods in one area for good prices
Pros
  • Met lots of new people
  • Got to explore Asia
  • Great opportunities
Cons
  • The timetable said there was an extra bank holiday

Great experience

Absolute Internship is a great option for finding summer internships while also getting to travel and meet people. You will get matched with a company based on your experience level which is great for students with little to no experience. I would recommend them if you have completed your first year of university and want to get some experience in your industry of interest as it will make your CV stand out later down the line since not many people will have done internships at when they were at that level.

I loved everything about my absolute internship experience!!

I LOVED everything about my Absolute Internship experience. The team worked so hard to find me a job that fit my unique ask, they were so welcoming/fun with the students, and they helped you get accustomed quickly to the new environment. On top of loving the leaders, I met students from all over the world and made best friends for life. AND, living in Barcelona was a dream. Especially staying in the apartment that they hooked us up with, it was SO nice. Overall, Barcelona is such an amazing city with so much to offer! Joining Absolute Internship was truly one of the best decisions of my life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
NOTHING!!

Unforgettable Summer in Lisbon

Had an amazing experience during my summer abroad in Lisbon! My internship was super fun and I learned a lot about an industry I had little prior experience in. I made great friends that I still keep in touch with and got to explore many different parts of Portugal during my free weekends. I always felt safe and adequately supported whenever I had any questions. The planned activities were also very enjoyable. Though there were some minor program issues, I still had a wonderful time that I'll never forget.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take advantage of your weekends and explore different parts of the country! Portugal is beautiful and has so much to offer.
Pros
  • Great addition to resume
  • Culturally immersive programming
  • Safe way to travel abroad

Absolute Internship

Absolutely recommend such nice memories and experience. Strongly strengthened my CV and job opportunities. Will do again if possible, a good mix of experiences and summer fun.
I was in Lisbon which was beautiful for the summer, visited and traveled around Europe on the weekends, and learned programming and worked in the week days.
It can be slightly expensive but you can usually receive funding from the school in most competitive US schools, so it would not be a burden.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I never imagined I will have a job in the form of internship in Portugal. So I was only able to build expectation based on my previous jobs at my own country. Yet, the experience changed my whole outlook at work environments. I used to view work ethics only from one shallow lens, and now I see how wide the options can be
Pros
  • Really good companies
  • Good work environment
  • Safe and fun

Couldn’t recommend more!

I had the best two months ever in Barcelona with absolute and in my internship! The placement process was so smooth and my internship matched the goals that I had for myself going into the summer. The support from absolute really helped my experience as I could always ask questions and seek guidance when I had questions about my position or about activities. I made life long friendships and the activities and trips planned were so fun for everyone on the program, couldn’t recommend it more!! I had so much personal growth because I went in not knowing anyone, which I would recommend as it makes you make such good friends with everyone on the program

What was your funniest moment?
Going to Madrid with the whole program!
Pros
  • Community
  • Adventure
  • Personal growth

ILY CHARLIE Also the program rocks

Awesome experience that pushed me into going into the field that I’m going to graduate school for. We had an awesome program leader (ily Charlie) and have made some amazing long lasting friends because of the experience. Our weekend outings were fantastically planned btw: Estonia was great but wet and ruined my pants but that’s my fault, Helsinki is gorgeous but a small child stole my floaty when I was at the pool, Copenhagen was perfect and I want to go back so bad. I loved my experience with Absolute and Sweden, if you’re thinking about it you should.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would do a sustainability internship, Stockholm is a fantastic stop for that
Pros
  • Made amazing friends
  • Got to see the world
  • Swedish Chocolate Balls
Cons
  • I stained my pants in Estonia when it was raining
  • Sweden is expensive
  • Pickled herring

A Good Way to Explore Out of My Comfort Zone

Going all the way to Sweden for an internship is really freaky. I don't travel much, especially that far. I didn't know how to prepare, what I should and shouldn't do, etc... However, the people at Absolute do know about how to guide you through these places and aren't unfamiliar with unfamiliarity. Although they could be a bit more proactive in reaching out to you to help along the way and while on the trip, they are very friendly and personable people that want to make sure you're comfortable. Make sure you ask them a lot of questions if you're nervous because they'll help you out or direct you to where you can get help. It was a very flexible experience with them, which I'd normally not expect considering the scale of what they do. They try to make sure you have a nice place to stay and fun stuff to do while abroad. They're a great avenue for exploration if you've been meaning to venture out of your comfort zone.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I lost my travel group in Finland and had absolutely no cell coverage there. I didn't know where anyone was or where to find them. By complete luck I ran into someone from my group who was walking to them, and did have service there. Lesson: Stick to your people like glue if you don't wanna get lost, lol.
Pros
  • Learned how to interact with people from other cultures.
  • Was supplied things like a sim card and subway card so I could travel/commute without worry.
  • The Absolute team are very friendly and are always willing to help and answer questions.
Cons
  • Information is kind of unorganized.
  • There aren't a lot of plans for if you get lost or left behind.
  • They aren't super proactive with checking in with you leading up to the trip, so you have to go to them a lot.

Definitely Recommend!

My name is Pfifer Blackman and I am an American currently studying at the University of Georgia. I am a junior double majoring in Real Estate and Finance in the Terry College of Business. I always wanted to go abroad and when finding an immersive experience involving work I was immediately intrigued. I participated in the Spring internship program with Absolute Internship.
I have held this internship particularly close to my heart as the people there are very accepting and wish for me to get the most out of it. They were willing and able to place various tasks on my plate and allowed me to earn significant exposure to the inner operations here at Hostini. As I was assigned these responsibilities, one stuck out to me as it was particularly fulfilling.
I was able to expand my leadership skills dramatically through my time in Stockholm. Although I did enjoy each corporate project, I found myself learning in corners never expected. Handling the company’s financials was not something I had expected out of this internship, but I enjoyed every second of this responsibility. It was a great feeling to confirm my love for math and numbers and have them applied in a real-life setting. I plan to take these skills back with me and hopefully apply them to a job in the fall around Athens while completing my senior year.
As this was a very developing experience in my life, I would recommend it to all. Coming in with an open mind and room to grow were two things that assisted my success.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go to all events you can and truly immerse yourself in the culture!
Pros
  • Work Experience
  • Good Staffing Help
  • Excellent Housing
Cons
  • Small Group
  • Not completely relevant work

Best Summer Ever

Through my internship, I gained professional experience in the wedding planning industry which has been transformative for my career trajectory. It provided me with a solid foundation of practical skills and industry knowledge that I can now confidently apply in any professional setting. It was also so much fun getting to live with all of the interns, make lifelong friends, and explore all of the amazing things Barcelona has to offer! I loved all of the weekend trips, day trips and cultural opportunities that Absolute provided.
