A Real World Test Run

I absolutely loved my program experience with Intern Group (back then it was University of Dreams!) I lived on my own in an awesome city which I now call home, interned for one of the biggest companies in the country, got a full time job after graduation because of my internship and found my dream career because of the program. I grew up in Maryland and went to college in the Midwest and it had always been my dream to experience California. Not knowing a single soul in California the idea of spending the summer in San Francisco was extremely scary not only for me but my parents as well so finding a program that took care of all the logistics for me was amazing.

I was in a sorority at OSU and one of my best friends and sorority sisters had done the program the summer before me which is how I found out about the program. Even on the plane ride to San Francisco I was terrified that I was going to land and that it was all going to be fake or too good to be true. When I landed and got to check in I saw so many smiling faces and the staff of the program that took my bags up to my rooms, checked me in and reassured me that it was going to be an awesome summer which it was!

I was an Interpersonal Communications major and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I really wanted a big company that would allow me to get some experience in various departments so I ended up interning at Clear Channel's Bill Graham Presents in the heart of San Francisco. I got sooooo much experience in advertising, event planning and marketing that I wouldn't of gotten otherwise and I worked my butt off for 8 weeks which led to a full time position within Clear Channel in Washington DC once I graduated.

I loved everything about the program; the city, the friendships, the work experience and the networking opportunities that the program opened up to me.

What would you improve about this program?
Back then the housing for the program was based out of Stanford in Palo Alto and my internship was in the heart of San Francisco so my commute to and from work everyday was about an hour which wasn't ideal. That's no longer a problem since they moved their housing to the city center.

Fantasy Summer

I honestly think that Intern Group was the most valuable experience I've ever had! I would recommend it to anyone looking to live and work abroad!

I completed the London Intern Group program in the summer of 2012. I interned with a British entertainment PR firm, and worked with the company's publicists to promote a wide range of clients (from celebrities to corporate companies). By the end of the summer, I learned SO much and became an integral part of their team. I still talk to my co-workers and supervisors all the time. I hope to work with some of my connections there in the future!

Central London was the perfect location for our group of American college students. In addition to the awesome internship experience, we got to explore the city and travel together!

What would you improve about this program?
I would make the program longer! I fell in love with the city of London AND my internship position...I didn't want the experience to end!

Dream Careers Made Getting to NYC Possible For Me

I had an amazing time interning in New York City through Intern Group. I always wanted to go to New York, but didn't think it was an option. I wouldn't have known where to start in my internship search without the help of the staff at Intern Group. They literally took care of everything. I'm still in touch with friends I met through the program and everyone I knew had the time of their lives living and working in New York City. My parents and I could not be happier with our investment and my experience with the program.

Not only did I have fun and work a great internship, but the extra bonuses of weekly seminars influenced and encouraged me to do my absolute best. I have used the skills I learned during the seminars about networking and finding mentors with me as I started my job search.

I would recommend this program to anyone who doesn't know where to start with their internship search and wants to end up with a quality internship experience and amazing friends and professional connections.

Best summer of my life!

I participated in the Barcelona as a Sophomore in College. At first i was scared, my parents trusted me in making this decision if it would help my future and the start of my career. As soon as I landed in the Barcelona airport I was greeted. My worried immediately left when i met the helpful staff. They prepared everything for my arrival. I started my internship a few days later. The weekend events were a plus! and by the end of the summer I felt like a local and a lot more confident in my field. I would recommend this program to anyone that is looking for a combination of enjoying an abroad experience AND at the same making sure you are working to become more marketable upon graduation!

What would you improve about this program?

Valuable experience

I spent summer of 2013 working for one of the leading PR companies in London. Huge thanks to Intern London for the opportunity. I was involved in the work process. I did lots of research, client approaches, helped develop PR strategies etc. I had the chance to work with major clients and it was definitely a valuable experience which helped me get a job afterwards.

Also thanks for the leisure programme. The bike tour in Paris was one of the most memorable moments of summer 2013.

Great way to set yourself apart!

I had an incredibly fulfilling experience with the Intern Group. I learned more than I hoped for through my internship and also had a great time getting to know the people involved with the group! Many people are amazed at the fact that I have global work experience this early on and it has been a great way to set myself apart in such a competitive job market. The ability to say that I have this experience has been overwhelmingly beneficial. I would do it over again in a heart beat!

What would you improve about this program?
If I had to change one thing about the program, it would be the level of communication before you leave for the trip. Although all of the necessary things were taken care of, I was kind of nervous about how things would pan out once I arrived and wished I could have had more information at the onset.

Valuable Experience

I really enjoy the time and think highly of the intern experience in HK. It is a super dynamic city that never sleeps. In this city, I learned valuable lessons about local business and culture, either through firsthand experience or conversation with inspiring friends.

I interned with a Bahrain based recruitment consultancy firm. In addition to maintaining daily office operation tasks, I worked on the project of finding sales managers for our client company from the talent market in mainland China. I researched online, read resumes, nailed down candidate lists and finally introduced candidates to our client (company)’s HR manager. My intern company even brought me to their client meetings with Adidas, Coach and Ralph Lauren. As I walked out of the office, what I carried along are my understanding of HK labor market and working condition, confidence in dealing with people related task, broader vision of possible future career choices, as well as connections with nice coworkers!
My company is just a few minutes’ walking away from my apartment. With Soho and Lan Kwai Fong nearby, both my office building and living place are located in the central area of Hong Kong Island. The location advantage made it so easy for me to explore the trendiest and coolest area of HK.

Other interns, as well as our lovely country director Krystal, together we formed a fun group! I enjoyed the time with those interesting folks from different parts of the world: Germany, Spain, Sweden, UK, local HK and mainland China. We all share the same spirit and goal to know HK as much as we can and create fun as much as we want. Together we explored cool bars in Lan Kwai Fong, cheered for horse racing in happy valley, enjoyed cruise dinner on Victoria bay, sang Karaoke in Causeway Bay and visited fancy casinos and antique architecture in Macau!

My time in HK with the Intern Group is an enriching experience. I felt like a different person in HK as my passion to explore and concur a place was aroused. I admit that this ambition wouldn't be recalled if I just stay at my university and concern about grades from most of the time. Now in retrospect, I am thankful with this opportunity. I regard it more than a working experience; it’s a life event of investment---some money and time invested to pave out a possible way out for life. You can enjoy your easy and comfortable little peace in the corner somewhere in this world, while on the other end on this planet, there are people who strive in a busy metropolitan. Though there are tides of hustling people and cars, you can feel the dream from every single one in the current. There, I was feeling so alive too. HK definitely affects my mind set. The investment is worthy, so I would like to recommend this experience to people as well!

Interning in Madrid

Recently I spent a month in Madrid developing my design skills thanks to InternMadrid. I chose InternMadrid because the programme looked value for money and the experience is what I needed. They gave me the change to move, live and work in a Spanish company for a month. With little knowledge of speaking Spanish, it was challenging but the language barrier wasn't a problem.

The reason I chose Madrid was because I wanted experience a different culture and see how another country uses design in their daily lives. This experience means that I can now further my career as a graphic designer and get into a job I want.

The InternMadrid staff have been there whenever I need them, especially Thalassa. Whenever I got lost or just needed someone to show me the way around Madrid she was there.

Overall this experience has been worth it. At first the idea can be daunting and the money aspect can be scary too but I feel that everything was worth it and if I was given the chance, I would do it again...maybe when there are more interns!

Thanks to the InternMadrid team and Thalassa for everything :)

It has been a great experience with Intern Group. It helped me find a wonderful place to work and enhance my skills during my stay in Madrid.

And needless to say Thalassa has always been there for any kind of support and help required during this period. She is a wonderful person!

Overall.. Great!

Exploration and Discovery in the land of Eternal Spring!

In the words of Michel Foucault; “I do not feel that it is necessary to know exactly what I am. The main interest in life and work is to become someone else that you were not in the beginning.”

Working in the Municipal of Envigado, in the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development allowed me to do just that. To learn, not just about my academic field of study but about myself which further enhanced my experience and allowed me to grow in every sense of the word.

I feel it suffice to say that every day was different. Every day was a challenge. But every challenge, I saw as an opportunity and, each opportunity led me to an incredible experience.
I also feel each experience is very much unique, and it was one of the main things I loved about interning through The Intern Group; as they’re a relatively new enterprise, there is no such template of experiences one often gets with longer running companies. Talking with other interns, we’d all be surprised at how incredibly different our network and work dynamics were which I really appreciated. It was very much customised to each participant but at the same time, there was a very healthy and strong support system within the interns and The Intern Group.

Medellin, is a beautiful city I fell in love with. I always took care but always felt very safe. I feel that if you educate yourself on what the city is like, where is safe and where is not, and if you follow your intuition, you delve into an affluence off care. Public transport is really easy to take and the humanitarian culture is unlike any other; people are always willing to help. If ever you get lost, embrace the moment. It was on these occasions in which I discovered beautiful little places or met wonderful people. It's important to remember that every moment is a journey of exploration and discovery.

Everyone in Medellin is certain that it’s the best place to live in the world, and thus, the energy is transcendent and one begins to not only feel it, but believe it. It’s the smiles and landscapes, the history and joy which really do make it the City of Eternal Spring.

My experience with The Intern Group in Medellin, Colombia is one I wouldn't change for anything and one I’d recommend to everyone.

What would you improve about this program?
I’m a different type of traveller and I really don’t get very much satisfaction from tours. I prefer to travel as an explorer and not a tourist as I feel tours they take away from the cultural and historical value by commercialising everything too much. If there were one thing I’d add (not change, because I know that many others do like the convenience of tours), I would add a very hands on, all terrain authentic experience to the program. Whether it’s ‘be an Arriero for a day’, or visiting an indigenous community within the state of Antioquia over a weekend. An entire cultural immersion is what I think would complement the program.
