Tefl Heaven - TESOL certification program

TEFL Heaven I found was extremely helpful and would respond to any questions or concerns I had very quickly. They would respond to e-mails within 24-48 hours with open arms and full explanations of any questions that I asked of them, as well as asking me post-course how well I enjoyed the course and if there was anything else they could do for me. The program itself was beneficial as it gave hands-on experience with teaching as well as the opportunity to watch experienced teachers give lessons. The in-class component and "homework" (essays and journal writing) were rather easy and straight forward which makes it easy for anyone who may be interested to come and do it. Personally I would recommend doing this course and using TEFL Heaven as they were very helpful and laid out the steps for applying, paying, and whatever else I needed to do.
The course was unique as it gave me a chance to meet new people from around the world while becoming certified to teach the youth of Vietnam. I came along with a friend from home however I believe if you were to come alone then you would have no issues at all as our whole class was very friendly and spent a lot of time together inside and outside of class. I am very happy to have taken this course and it impacted me positively in the long-run.

What would you improve about this program?
Generally I found this program to sufficiently offer what I needed it to for my teaching needs. I suppose if there was anything to improve upon it would be being more active in helping the course participants in finding a job as opposed to simply sending a link to recruiters e-mails and basically getting us to do the searching. I understand it is our responsibility to find a job but if you write that you guarantee a job then you should be more involved in actually finding a job.

TEFL course

My TEFL course with Audra was absolutely fantastic. I received excellent instruction, and honestly really grew in my time from the beginning of the course to the end of the course. When I started, I had many bad teaching habits that Audra had to help me break. But, by the end of the course I felt confident as an English Teacher. It was also awesome getting to do all of this in the beaches of Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. The institute had a beautiful view of the ocean, and we watched many sunsets from the tables right outside the institute. I can't recommend this course enough!

New Life, Who Dis?

I am so happy to be leaving a review for this company. Firstly, I'm currently settled in a really cool house in Hanoi. I live with a couple of others who I did the course with. Our group consisted of 13 people from a whole range of backgrounds but with all the same purpose - to train to become English teachers. I still stay in touch with the majority of the people from the course now, what a great opportunity to meet people in this new country!
That's one of the best things to emphasise about anyone considering doing the course through TEFL Heaven - you may be thrown out of your comfort zone at first but you're never alone, which makes the transition into this new culture so much easier. Also, the first night involves a welcome party with plenty of food and booze whilst you mingle with other members of the course AS WELL AS teachers from previous courses.
Secondly, I cannot express how brilliant the TEFL Heaven team are back in the UK. Such a supportive, understanding and on-the-ball company. I had soooo many questions after I committed to joining the course and I was always answered promptly, professionally and thoroughly - no matter what the question was. So thanks for that TEFL Heaven you beauts!
Becoming an English teacher abroad turns you into a sort-of celebrity in the eyes of the locals, I quite often have random conversations with Vietnamese who want to practice their English whilst walking down the street or whilst you're in the back of their taxi. The Vietnamese are such wonderful, genuine people who cannot do enough for you - they certainly make this country feel like a home-from-home and I honestly can't imagine myself returning to the UK any time soon.
The best piece of advice I can give to anyone considering this course is to push your hesitations to one side, open your mind and take the leap. It could be the best decision you ever make.
Also the food here is bluddy good... just saying

What would you improve about this program?
Generally, there aren't many things that need addressing with this course. My only regret is that I didn't ask more appropriate questions before I left the UK. I.e. I wasn't aware how cold Hanoi can get during the winter so I didn't really pack any warm clothes - but that's my problem.
A bit more focus on teaching techniques for kindergarten age would've been helpful as I don't have any previous experience with children.

Amazing Experience!

It's hard to not have a good experience in a place like Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica! But the program, teachers, and faculty at the school made it so amazing! Everyone was so helpful and the teacher made the experience 100x better. I really learned a lot and now have a certificate to help me teach all over the world! I made a bunch of new friends and teaching became my passion! I would absolutely recommend this program in Costa Rica. If you want the beach, mountains, and a small town feel, go to Manuel Antonio.

Amazing Program!

I took the TEFL course in Prague and it was one of the best decisions of my life. TEFL Heaven was so helpful during my time of preparation. I had many questions for them and would email them almost everyday for several weeks and they were so kind and patient. They always answered all of my questions and gave me so much confidence in the program. I also received support from them during and after my course finished, I really felt like they cared and wanted for me to succeed. The program was very difficult but so worth all the hard work, the instructors do so much to prepare and support the students. It was such a wonderful program to be a part of! I would recommend this program to anyone who is even slightly interested in teaching abroad! Such a great experience!

Valuable experience!

The program starts on a Sunday night with an informal welcomes-get together, with all your new course mates and teachers. During the course (which takes four weeks) there are interactive classes about all the aspects of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). One thing that I really appreciated was that the group of about 40 students was divided into 3 smaller groups for these classes. This gives you the opportunity to have a more personal relationship with the teacher and all your classmates, which in turn enables you to feel more comfortable, have fun and learn more, in comparison with a group of 40 students in one classroom. During the four weeks there are also 8 observing hours, in which you observe a teacher having a real ESL class. When these 8 hours are logged, you continue with 12 hours of practicing real teaching! This was quite exciting since giving a presentation had never been one of my strong skills. However the first of these teaching practices is before a small group of the 40 students, your peers. They were all very friendly, since they knew it is the first time of teaching ESL. The other teaching practices were all real ESL classes, varying in age from five till adults. Some of the remaining teaching practices were in our own school and others in other language schools in the neighbourhood. These teaching practices are really a valuable experience, which you do not get if you just do one of these courses online. Because an online course cannot teach you what 25 seven year olds can! (Yes in one of my teaching practices I had to teach 25 kids of seven year old, and surprisingly I enjoyed it!)

Traveling Teacher

TEFL Heaven was a wonderful way to begin my teaching experience in Thailand. They made my pre-planning painless, and the course helped ease my initial anxieties.

They provided me with all of the information, documents, and confidence I needed to be a successful teacher. In addition, I gained confidence in myself, my skills and my ability to handle new situations.

TEFL Heaven is unique, in that participants get the opportunity to train 3 weeks in paradise and also gain hands-on classroom experience and real-life experience teaching children in “English camp”. Exposure to teaching before conducting my own classroom was incredibly helpful. TEFL Heaven supplies participants with the opportunity to discover an exquisite culture, learn some Thai, explore the breathtaking Thai islands, and make lifelong friends.

After the three weeks of training I felt confident, excited, and prepared. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is considering teaching English abroad. You will gain friendships, knowledge, and a whole lot of confidence!

What would you improve about this program?
During my training a lot of the focus was directed towards teaching Prathom (middle school) students. More emphasis on teaching kindergarten and high school students would have been helpful.

An Experience of a Lifetime.

Teaching abroad is something that I dreamt about doing for a long time, ever since I taught abroad in college in 2012. After a few years of teaching in the states I decided it was finally time to take the plunge and I am so glad that I did. After much research and knowing that I wanted to teach in Spain, in hopes of becoming bilingual, I decided on TEFL Heaven.
TEFL Heaven was a great way to connect with the teaching world abroad. They were supportive from the day of the interview and even followed up with me once the program was complete. For the Spain program TEFL Heaven sets you up with a sister company. The classes are all taught by experienced educators who have previously taught in Spain. Each one is extremely knowledgable in what they are teaching. The best thing about this program is that you will definitely be prepared to teach English as a foreign language. I think I learned more about grammar and the English language in this 1 month TEFL course than I had in my 18 years of education in the states. The teachers are also extremely supportive and go above and beyond the duties of just a teacher to help you with all your needs.
Tips:
- If you have flexibility of when to come I would recommend coming for the July or August course as there are tons of job opportunities starting in September, or do the November course as again many jobs open up again in January. (There are jobs opening up constantly year round though, these are just the most popular times)
- The course is intense, but it does its job well as it will prepare you for teaching English as a second language, and remember it's just one month!
- If you need support, ask for it! There are people in place to help you, so ask the questions that you need answered and don't ever hesitate to ask!

"This is your moment. You've let excuses hold you back long enough. Today, take the steps to accomplish what is in your heart"- Joel Osteen.

TEFL Puerto Vallarta

I learned a lot of new things about English language as a teacher student. I liked the fact that you did not need to be a native speaker of the language in order to to become a teacher of the language. Meeting the former teacher students from previous courses helped a lot during that one month, support from them and their friendship during the month was very valuable. Even though the course was really demanding from my point of view I would totally recommend it to everyone. With this kind of job you are able to travel and see new places and have an awesome job which will bring you joy and that excitement when you realize that your students are learning new things.

What would you improve about this program?
Better advertisement for people from Europe. Quick responses to email requieres.

Wonderful Experience

For several years I considered earning my TEFL certificate. Every few months, I found myself looking for programs and reading reviews. After researching, I found this program and I'm glad I did. I found this program to be a truly enjoyable experience. The school is located right on the beach in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. The housing provided was incredibly convenient and safe. I lived with three other girls in a house right across the street from the school, a bank, shops, and restaurants.

Alan (the program director) was readily available and took care of everything we asked for from housing requests to information on the course, the city, and teaching prospects. Monday through Friday we met in the classroom under the instruction of Raul. Every day in the classroom was exciting and different. Each lesson was thoughtfully planned with information relevant to teaching. Raul has years of experience teaching abroad. He is an excellent source of information (and great stories) as he has taught in several different countries.
This course requires the completion of teaching hours. The opportunity to teach English in real situations with real students, who are eager to learn, is what sets this program above the rest. Teaching was by far my favorite part of this experience.

Job support and resume assistance is extremely helpful. Upon completion of the course you earn a certificate and a professional video resume. I used Alan and Raul as references for jobs and graduate school. I also made great friends that I still stay in touch with. I recommend this program for anyone considering teaching. The experience as a whole was inspiring and I left filled with motivation and gratitude.
